Swimming Naked in Gym

Each year, it seems, this topic comes up.

I was born/raised in NENY (Queensbury - about an hour north of Albany) and as kids (through high school) we always HAD to wear school-supplied bathing suits.

They were Speedo-ish, but not as night. Blue and silky. Before gym, there would be a huge bin of them and we each had to fish for one that looked like it fit. After gym, we'd throw the wet bathing suits into another bin.

I graduated high school in 1989 - because the "when," in this discussion is relevant.

I'm wondering if the "where" is just a relevant.

NO schools in my area gave "no bathing suit" as an option. There was no naked gym swimming.

But it seems that this was commonplace in Western NY.

Was there naked gym swimming where you lived?

Edison Tech HS. 1972 to 1974. Bathing suit optional

1975 was the year girls were allowed to attend the former all boys school.

Rochester NY if you didn't know

If you "snuck off" to the Pendield quarry after school

There was lots of nude bathing

Graduated in '97. Auburn High School. Always wore swim trunks when we went for swimming lessons at the YMCA. Went every year for a couple week during elementary school.

My varsity sports teams always showered together after practices and games. Kids don't do that anymore these days.

Auburn??

Wow...just was in that area on my last trip up...we took a day trip to Moravia..such a cool area.

Before I was put on medical cannot attend gym (medical mistake) this was normal in junior high school at Amsdell (Hamburg School System) for boys. Mid 70's. Girls got one piece swimming suits but they were very worn and some had them in revealing areas.

It actually stopped I heard after some kids (boys) caught in bleachers during boys swimming classes. Same kids were tossed out of locker room from high school after football games.

Yes, Ma'am. Born in Rochester, but lived in Auburn since I was 3. Owasco Lake is beautiful. Auburn city, especially downtown, has come a long, long way since I moved away in 2004.

Still very much a prison town though.

I attended North Junior High School in Niagara Falls from 1976-79. For the first two years we were required to swim naked. The last year that rule was rescinded and we were allowed to wear trunks. I've told this story many times with people always saying, "How could that be true?"

Needless to say, I never swam underwater without my eyes being wide open.

Also, the bathroom stalls had no doors (supposedly to prevent smoking in the boys room).

Damn, been a long time since I heard North Junior High. I was Prince of Peace in LaSalle. Where was North? I just cannot remember.

We would go to LaSalle Jr High for some reason to swim when i was little, maybe up till i was about 11 or 12 (74)..always no suits!

I used to go to a friend's parents house for the great race and ice fishing on owasco lake. Do you happen to know any of the Sikoras? Edited by chknwing334
