Guffalo Posted March 16, 2017 Share Posted March 16, 2017 Our house is being lifted due to storm damage from Sandy. We recently moved to another area that does not have similar services (Cable TV). I cannot do a dish since we don't own the house. I have internet and an amazon firestick. I was wondering if anyone has figured out if there is a way to get local programming or at least watch the major networks using a firestick. So far I have jail broken the stick, and have Kodi, Exodus, Phoenix and a bunch more, but I have yet to be able to watch regular, local TV or even ABC, CBS, NBC live. I can however watch streaming news from WIVB which is nice, but it is just the news, on a loop, updated every few hours. I can watch the same type programing for stations from Montana to Louisiana, but cannot seem to get regular old TV stations. Has anyone figured out how to get the stick to get Local Stations and/or national broadcasts? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I know CBS allows an All Access app that have to pay for it but a better option might be the Playstation Vue will give you ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox ondemand content and live broadcast in very select markets. I have no idea if it helps, but my assistant has been using sling box. i don't know if it carries local signals, but she cut the chord and loves it. I did a bunch of googling, found fire stick loading videos, that's how I got Kodi and the other add-ons, but in many cases, a subscription is required or a credit card is needed to get local/national broadcasts on some of them. I have no problem watching Goldbergs or Blackish at my leisure. I have amazon prime and Netflix, but that still doesn't get me live stuff. Since beginning of February we have been watching everything the next day. Which model of antenna do you have? I'm pretty dubious of set-tops with amplifier. If that doesn't work, there are many more tricks in the OTA bag. You will have hundreds of channels from all over the world. Most major US cable channels, plus HBO and a couple of adult channels. All free. No local channels, but national NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox. Under the sports section you will get ESPN, Fox and NBC sports as well as (for hockey fans) TSN and SportsNet Ontario. For local I use an antenna. If it works, awesome! If not, as pointed out above, there are other tricks in the OTA bag. I receive almost all Buffalo channels and a ton of Canadian channels to boot. We sorta cut the cord at my house, we had time warner/spectrum and when we had just internet they charged up the ass (were paying around 75/month just for internet, my wife called them when we moved and we got the same internet and they gave us a box that was supposed to be just local channels and it is 55/month and wont go up. Instead of using the box they gave we just plugged the cable right into the TV and got all the basic cable channels (60+) with some HD and we have that for every TV we hook right up to a cable. To the OP, I would try that also, just plug a coaxial cable into the cable outlet and see what "in the clear" stations there are at your residence. nkreed Posted March 18, 2017 Share Posted March 18, 2017 (edited) So you have a mud flap type antenna. Best reception would be to place it high near an exterior window or wall. Every time you place the antenna in a new place you need to do a channel scan on your TV, or your less likely to get new channels. Don't trust the mileage that these antenna are giving. If you did a tvfool plot you'll be looking for the signals in the green area as a high likelihood of receiving. Once you get to the yellow area, you probably aren't going to receive those stations unless you are on an exterior window. Also if a channel is in the white center area of the plot, your powered flap will cause "overload" and will decrease your ability to receive other channels.
