Please ban them, if only so I never have to see or hear another Draft Kings or FanDuel commercial! Â On the way to the opener from Vermont we listened to Sirius NFL, then to GR55, I must have heard about 50,000 ads for those two companies. Then when I walked into the Ralph to be greeted by another 1,0000 FanDuel signs I REALLY thought my head was going to explode... I bet $2 on the big competition each week. Just won $12.50 this past week because I came in 20,976 or something like that. FanDuel and DraftKings will be challenging the AG's Cease and Desist order in the next five days so I put my team in last night. Unlike Online Poker (where the cards are selected randomly), this actually takes some thought when you have a salary cap, choosing matchups, etc. It has me watching a lot more football and knowing a lot more players. I imagine this whole thing involves the NY AG trying to grab headlines and gain support...but I think it will backfire because NY is probably one of the biggest sport fan states by population. Â Or whatever. Â Radio ads are generally annoying as all hell, but those Fanduel ads are among the worst of all time. The distinction between the way they have treated fantasy sports vs online poker is absurd. Â There's a lot of influential money behind these companies so I don't expect anything to happen at the federal level, but the state level fights will be interesting. Bold move by NYS. With FanDuel, you're not just picking one horse to come in...you're picking who you think is going to be the best QB, best two RB's , best three WR's , best TE, best kicker and best D. Anytime we gamble on a live outcome there is luck involved. I'm just not buying into the skill aspect of the companies' argument. I play for free and can win tickets and passes, no money. Illegal, I don't think so. It also helps that I am a Pennsylvania resident, and am proud that I moved to PA from NY years ago. Less restrictions on everything in PA, much less of a nanny state. The taxes are much less too, which in turn pay for my season tickets. If I have any say in what happens in NY, it would only be that I work in NY and pay NY state payroll taxes. But as for betting on the NFL, no problems here. I'm not a big gambler, but whenever I'm in Vegas I visit the sports books. I've kept away from fantasy sites because they're not transparent. I know what the house keeps in a normal sports betting pool, for various bets at the race track, etc. I have no idea. To me it's a consumer issue -- one that would be better addressed by ensuring a fair/transparent game than by banning these sites. Â 2. Follow the money. Nevada casino interests hate competition. (Follow Harry Reid too) Look what happened when Delaware tried to legalize sports gambling. The current Administration thinks it's fine and dandy for states to legalize a federally banned substance, but when a state tries to legalize gambling, watch out. Some skill is required in assembling a fantasy team to compete weekly, other activities are gambling because they are more luck/chance than skill.
