I have struggled with whether I should try to indoctrinate my small children in the ways of the Bills when they get older, or let them choose for themselves (likely Steelers, since that's where we now live). I think you make a compelling case for the family bond over the Bills, even that means years (decades) of hard times. I live in a different NFL city as well, so my kids will struggle with what team to choose as their favorite. Not to sway their decision, but I tell them I won't love them as much if they're not Bills fans. Just being honest. JR, I had the same struggles, but opted to guide my son down the path of Bills fandom. The day my son attended his first Bills game, he was put on the Jumbotron and because I had advance notice that it would happen, snapped a photo of it. (See avatar). Two years ago, my son and I were throwing a ball in Hammers lot when an NFL Network crew came up to us. We were shown on Rich Eisen's pregame show and I was able to DVR it, then later post it to Youtube. My son has been on the field a few times and has gotten priceless photos taken with JK, TT, George Wilson and Phil Hansen. My son's room in Houston is a Bills cave, and soon we'll be moving to PGH so well be attending many more games. We live and die together on Sundays and while his 15 years have seen a lot of heartbreak, I'm confident that better days are ahead and his suffering will be replaced with joy. All of these experiences have helped develop a strong bond between us. While difficult at times, I wouldnt do it differently in retrospect. I closed my eyes for a second and realized that it's all happening in just two months: cool autumn nights and mornings, imperial pumpkin beers and most importantly, Bills-Colts. We lived in New Hampshire for years, and with the two older kids, I went the "let them decide on their own" route. Those two are smart and accomplished people--but they are Patriots** fans. With our three younger guys, they wore Bills red, white, and blue from birth. We're now in central Virginia, lead a Bills Backers group, and they wear their Bills jerseys every Sunday. Proudest moment so far: all three wore their jerseys for their school pics this year. Awesome. GO BILLS!!! To date, I have browsed the sites for the Pats*, Fins, Jets, Chargers, Raiders, 49ers, Rams, Colts, Bears, Browns, Eagles, Giants, and probably some others tat I don't remember. Of course not but it WAS a touchdown so 6 points makes a difference. It sucks though cause I still say if Beebee doesn't break his leg before that superbowl against the Giants we win for sure. Like many others I’m sure, my father raised me as a Bills fan and it is one of the best things that has happened to me (besides the birth of my daughter and marrying my wife) It is one of my fathers and mines closest bonds and still is to this day. Every day we talk about the Bills and what we think needs to be done with the team or the latest rumors we hear. I tell him that I get all my sources from this message board. You all are great. I rarely need to check Twitter or Google anything because I know that someone will have posted something on here first and it holds true 100% of the time. This board is truly amazing and I feel honored to be a member and fellow poster. Looking back through all the years I have come to realize that many of many of my happiest memories come from the Bills. Especially going to the Ralph. Being from Toronto and now living in Hamilton, we don’t get to experience the level of fun, excitement, and comradery that one experiences going to Bills games in Buffalo. I always get to the stadium early around 8am, just to take everything in. I stop at the duty free where friendly nods are exchanged with other Canadians wearing Bills jersey’s and shakes of the head are exchanged at fellow stupid Canadians who are wearing the jersey of a team who isn’t even playing. I pull in to the parking lot and as soon as I open my car door I am greeted with everything I have been looking forward to since I bought my tickets in the summer. I see all my fellow Bills fans and just feel at home. I hear the sounds of chatter, laughter and sports radio talk as fans tailgate with their trunk open and the radio on. I get to see special moments happen in front of me such as a father tossing around the football with his son. I also am greeted with the wonderful smell of tailgating. Oh what a smell. It’s just too perfect. I always tell people who never have been to a Bills game in Buffalo that the game itself is just one part of the experience and that the hours before the game are just as special. I can not tell you all how happy I am that the Pegula's ended the Toronto series. I hated it so much. More than a fat kid hates a diet. Those who know me on here know how much I loathed that series and actually had an old avatar showing my protest against it. Bills football belongs in Buffalo no question about it just like the NFL belongs in the USA. I have been going to Bills games for the past 28 years and there has never been a time that I remember where I was made fun of for being Canadian. In fact, I sometimes get thanks for my countries strong beer lol I just wanted to thank all of you for playing a part in some of my best memories and for being the main reason why Bills fans are among the most passionate and best fans in the world and for the great feeling that we are all part of one enormous family. They will be indoctrinated whether or not you try to make them Bills fans. I gave my boys free will to choose what team they wanted to back. In the end they see my passion for the Bills and they wind up by my side watching every painful moment. They can call themselves fans of whatever team they want but they will always root for the Bills, their father's team. My dad would have the kids pick their games lottery style until one year he realized we just needed two more tickets. I remember clearly the trip to the Ralph to pick out our seats for the new season tickets. This will be my first season without my dad, but over recent years we had few conversations that didn't include some Bills talk. That was our bond. When each of my sons turned 16 I took them to a Bills home game from Florida. We had been to Bills games in other cities, but it was the trip to a game at the Ralph that cemented their fandom. Huge fans. I hope we always have that bond, and I never had to tell them what to think. I just had to take them to a game.
