Jacobs Family front runners?

Recommended Posts

I get the need to clarify the ownership question to the Boston folks. I think if Jacobs was interested, he could have said, "My family is interested in buying the Bills, there is an NFL rule that prohibits cross-ownership of franchises in two cities. Under no circumstances would I sell the Bruins in order to buy the Bills. My family will look at other options that the NFL would support". Now, maybe that's going too far for his taste, but something along those lines could appease the Bruin faithful while officially throwing his hat in the ring to buy the Bills.

Again, as I mentioned in another thread, it makes little sense for anyone to publicly toss their hat into the ring at this time. Indeed, I'll predict we won't know who the new owner until the 11th hour. I have a strong sense the new owner has already been pre-approved by the NFL's vetting process, though.

GO BILLS!!!

You are not the only person I've conversed with that has that opinion.

right, you initially wrote "he's out." now your couching your opinion, which is correct in regards to Jeremy Sr., but the wording of the statement fails to rule out other possibilities. odd, that i need to to spell that out to you.

odd, too, that you feel almost all of the information that gets reported is false. how would you know that?

or are you going to know backtrack on "almost all."

there is meaning to the statement, and it's to make sure that there is no speculation in regards to the Bruins' ownership future. they aren't in play.

thanks for straightening me out there.

It makes no sense for him to publicly do anything like that. What serious person has publicly stated their intentions to buy the Bills? No one outside Donald Trump. And we all know that he's an attention seeker in general. Bon Jovi's publicist releasing a statement? Know what that tells me? Those entities want to get in the game, but aren't in the game in a serious fashion at this time. So they have to drum up publicity to get noticed, get momentum.

I wouldn't doubt Jacobs hat has been in the ring for quite some time behind the scenes. In spite of what many have said in the past, it's highly doubtful that Mr. Wilson or Bills officials had no idea about who would be interested in buying the team before he passed away. Corporate businesses aren't run haphazardly. Especially NFL business. Buying a team is a negotiation. The trust will want the best offer it can get that suits the purposes of Mr. Wilson's intentions (which likely means a WNY-focused ownership). Those interests are businessmen/women. They may want to buy the Bills and keep them in WNY, but they still want to do it at the most cost-effective price possible. Start to publicize intentions and it can add other elements into that process that could drive up the price. No serious business person will do that. Because they can afford to pay 1 billion doesn't mean they won't attempt to get the entity for 950 million. They won't weaken their bargaining power.

The fact that it has been said by many of the WNY-centric ownership potentials that they don't want to see the Bills move or that they would support the Bills remaining in WNY tells you all you need to know. I would also keep in mind that another WNY-centric ownership group that no one has heard a peep out of might be the new owners. Power moves are made in silence.

Be easy and keep the faith. Because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there. And because a group with deep pockets might announce intentions to try to buy the Bills doesn't mean there aren't WNY groups with as much or more money. And keep in mind that the league has to approve any new ownership group. I believe WNY has more support than people think.

Report: Jacobs have had discussions about Bills

By JOHN WAWROW — Apr. 24, 2014 12:43 AM EDT

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Jacobs family is, in fact, involved in helping secure the Bills' future in Buffalo, and hasn't ruled out getting involved in buying the team.

Jeremy Jacobs Jr., the son of Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Sr., told The Buffalo News on Wednesday that the family has been engaged in discussions involving the franchise's future, but said it was too early to say whether it will make an attempt to buy the team.

"We are using our resources, our contacts, our relationships to do everything we can to ensure the Bills stay in Buffalo," Jacobs said in a story published on the newspaper's website.

Jacobs, however, stopped short of saying his family would be involved in a prospective ownership group.

A very encouraging report. I think a Jacobs or Pegula ownership would be ideal.

Edit: JW or anyone else, do you know if NFL rules prohibit NON-CONTROLLING owners from having ties to racetracks or casinos?

If you're implying Trump, he said he'd sell his casinos in order to purchase the Bills.

Unless Mary Wilson and the Bills trust have told potential buyers to be quiet, I'm not sure why it makes little sense to talk publicly about your interest in the team. JW's article makes it clear that the Jacobs family still makes the most sense as a potential buyer, reading the article, I got the impression that young Jacobs was busting at the seams and wanting to say more about their interest, maybe they are quietly discussing with the NFL the best way to deal with their continued ownership of the Bruins and their gambling operations internally to ensure quick league approval if they have the successful bid. Their league connections and association with sports leagues as a vendor as well as their success as owners of the Bruins to me makes it a no-brainer, at least in theory. Still very quiet on the Pegula, Golisano front.

Jacobs, Pegula, or Golisano are the only names I want considered.

And Jeremy Gundlach.

Which, of course, is why Trump has already been publicly spouting off about it!!

And it got people talking about him. Mission accomplished.

Anyone truly interested in the Bills would have been planning to buy them for years. Ralph was 95. A name that hasn't been discussed much is Jeffrey Gundlach. He was quoted as putting a team together to buy the Bills back in 2011. As a big Bills fan growing up, he seems more likely to make this happen than someone like Jacobs who is already invested elsewhere

if you owned a hockey team that just won the Stanley cup would you sell them right then to possibly buy a team that A. Wasnt for sale. B. You have no idea when they will be on sale because you have to wait for a person to die before you can buy. That would make absolutely no sense.

I know google but I've never heard that name before. What can you tell me about him?

I love hockey (loved it more as a kid) but it is Rosie O'Donell to the NFL's Kate Upton.
