What he was saying is if jacobs wanted the bills he would have sold the bruins after their championship. I said that wouldnt make sense because the bills werent for sale then. Do any of the casinos offer sports betting or are they just table games and slotS? The original NFL ownership was loaded with "questionable" characters, many who had ties to gambling, bookmaking and, not surprisingly, to the nascent organized crime families. The Rooney and Mara families were both heavily involved in all aspects of what is now known as "the gaming industry." Popularity, probably not. By winning the Bills aren't in the same ballpark given their absence of a title in their sport. By legendary, transcendent players, who do the Bills have to compare to Bobby Orr, the greatest defenseman of all time? No one. Reggie White was better than Bruce Smith. Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith were better than OJ or Thurman. 10 guys are better than Andre and Bruce and Kent Hull and fill in the blank. By money/profit? I don't have the figures on profit since no one offers that up but I'd be willing to bet that the Jacob's family makes more on the Bruins than the Bills make. That market size is huge and basically everyone in Mass, NH and Maine are Bruins fans, they sell tons of gear, tickets are expensive, boxes are sold out, and they own the concessions. I'd rather be the Bruins owner than the Bills owner.... winning AND profit, what a novel idea. Sorry but if I was cognizant as a newborn in the 70s and my parents were able to see the future and said "Here are the Bruins and Bills and their futures, pick one to root for" I'd pick the Bruins. Winning matters no matter what sport. The NFL has become an overblown hype machine, more shine than substance. Sure we all like it but just because its big and popular doesn't diminish other sports and their franchises. Not sure when a Stanley Cup and the NHL became amateurs in the minds of myopic NFL fans but that's a laughable proposition. It just isn't in the same ballplark. The Bills have sucked for years, yet they are still a much more valuable franchise than the Stanley Cup winner. It's just facts. I'd like to see the bottom line for the new Bills owner after a few years and compare to the Bruins, Habs, Pens, or Leafs owners during the same time. I suspect the TV contract would make even the Bills more profitable overall. But if you took away TV contracts, the NHL would survive. Do that to the NFL and it would collapse within one year. The Bills annual profit is probably comparable to the Bruins gross. The Bills net that I heard yesterday (not sure how accurate it was) was higher than the gross of the NBA team that I worked for. With that being said the two are in different worlds. The Bruins are valued at about $600M & the Bills at $875M. The sale of the team will almost certainly eclipse $1B. That guy is a power broker in Washington and not a guy whose bad side the NFL wants to be on. You raise a great point, but with all due respect I think you have framed it wrong. There is no LUCK involved with Schumer's participation in this effort. He's involved because the Bills, not the County or NYS, added him as a Committee member. Think about that. No, I know Danny Wegman personally. He lives in my hometown in the Finger Lakes. (I grew up with his stepson.) While being "loaded/rich," he does not have the resources or assets to be able to purchase an NFL team. Minority owner, maybe...majority owner, not a chance. (He does have an incredible house though...heated driveways and tennis courts, a guest house the size of a normal house, state of the art security room, a dozen+ docks for boats/jet skis...he basically has his own little cove on the lake...it is truly something amazing to see from a boat.) (His stepson used to show us pictures of their trips to Jamaica and other awesome vacation spots...where they partied with the likes of Ralph Lauren, Michael Jordan, Jay-Z and many more celebrities. He is close to Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas too, I know that for a fact.) *One more thing...my brother-in-law is a big-wig at Paychex, and he said Golisano is "intrigued." (Just a thought.)
