Agree! 2nd reason is typically the weaker teams in the league starters may match up in talent to the better teams or at least close to, but they don't have the depth that strong team have. So this lessens the gap as the last players say on the Bills roster who are much better than the last players say on the Giants roster, now neither will be dressed.

If another teams signs him to a new contract the Bills get cap $$ back?? -
Exactly!! Bottom line is if they kept Hodgins over Kumerow, they now created a roster need for ST, who is going to fill that, sounds like not Hodgins this season. If they kept them both, the 7th WR would be inactive on game days anyway which most often would have been Hodgins due to Kumerow playing ST. So what's he bringing. IMO they viewed Hodgins and Stevenson equally and with Stevenson's injury they can keep him, but hide him on IR so basically creating an extra roster spot. Wouldn't be surprised if on Hodgins exit interview, the Bills may have told him you need to work on 1 of 2 things this year if you want to stick in the NFL. Either become a great WR so you're either a starter or first of the bench for some team, or become a high level ST player as then you'll have a job for years. Not that likely he'll ever be able to do the first so ST may be his only path to a roster long term but as was mentioned, his size may prevent him from ever exceling there too.

From everything that's been written Howard isn't even that. There was also an article in Mondays BN about Howard, and it contained a fair amount of quotes from Howard about how he's still earning the offense as was all new to him. Could be the team felt he either wasn't trying to learn it quick enough or just never would. Also possible Howard was one of these guys who got by on exceptional physical talents and never was too sharp with the mental part of the game. Now though the physical part is no longer exceptional on top of it.
-
Of that list the only real surprise to me is Hodgins assuming they were keeping 7 WR which I believe they did not. If only keeping 6 then totally fine with Kumerow getting the last slot. Howard is a bit of a surprise only because of the cap hit. But talent wise deserved to be cut and assume they couldn't find any one who wanted to trade for him.

Was following the thread up to around page 8, then had to go out, now up to page 25. Is there a summary someplace here as don't want to attempt to read 15 more pages to get the latest.

Yeah but the difference might by Barkley likely wouldn't sign with Giants for PS. IMO his plan is Buffalo or no where unless the Bills didn't place him o n their PS. If the Giants were going to sign him to their 53, then different story.
-
Speaking of Davis Webb, just heard he was cut. So who signs him to PS us or Giants?
-
Well they don't let you spread the $5.2 mil over 3 seasons, so is still a $5.2 hit this year. Thought Howard was a $2.6 mil hit. Either way it's still less and $3 mil is not a brutal cap hit. It might look bad as he never played, but not the first time i nthe NFL that has happened and often for larger cap hits.
-
I fixed it for you.

Could see that happening as they also have Gillian. Likely Sweeney will make it to PS so could bring him back if needed. The only thing questionalbe is the talk of them running more 2 TE sets, then would think you'd want 3 on 53.
-
No! Brutal was releasing Star. This is a significant hit, but far from brutal

Duke Johnson is cut material. If they trade Moss, Johnson stays, if they keep Moss then Johnson is cut. Johnson is not subject to waivers and likely would cost more. So those are reasons to go after Moss in a trade as gives you exclusive rights to a cheap contract. If this rumor is even a bit true and they did trade Moss, it kind of then says yes they'd keep Johnson, but like prior years, he's inactive almost every week barring injury to Cook or Singletary. Personally I'd have preferred to see Cook, Singletary, and Moss all active on Sundays as they do all bring a somewhat different strength to the team. But they've never done that in past years mainly IMO as when only able to dress 47 on Sundays, can't keep all three active plus Jones. Need to sit out one RB so then why keep all three if one is tradeable.

Likely the Bills will have their choice. If I'm a vet punter or any punter, I'd be excited about going to Buffalo with chance to go to SB. Unless of course no punt games are just a complete turn off to you. Don't believe any other teams currently don't have a punter at all? Somehow this idea sounds familiar to me?? -

With the Bills offense, assume they start at the 20 or 25 from a touchback, get one first down and stopped on next drive after gaining 7 yards. That's puts them at their own 40. A 40 to 50 yard kick would have the the opponent fielding between the 10 and 20. Most kickers can get at least half their kicks that far, conversely the Bills getting stopped on offense after only one first down should not happen that often. 2 to 3 first downs on a drive and you're at the 50 and beginning to think about not even bothering to punt. My point is eally not that hard to flip field with the Bills offense. -
Howard likely was dropping banana peels all over the TE room, it worked!

I think what the issue is the answer is somewhere between #2 and 3 Correct in July they didn't have access to the details, but they didn't look that hard to find out anything more. Apparently and not denied by Bills they never called the attorney back for more information. Maybe he would have given them an advanced copy of the lawsuit or maybe provide more details or at least drop a couple breadcrumbs where to look. Sounds like they more talked with Araiza and felt his version was more believable and didn't look into it much further. And maybe it still is the more believable version, but if they had got more of the alleged details, they likely would have added 2 plus 2 and figured out even if Araiza account is 100% the truth, they'd never withstand the public outrage when then the lawsuit was released and it would never be possible to wait until the actual truth comes out. So maybe we really need to take a much harder look into this, but doesn't appear they did. It's also possible in this late July conversation with the attorney, he kind of conveyed to the Bills money can make this go away so the Bills after talking with Araiza felt it was just a shakedown, but even so should have probably attempted to dig deeper. Like it or not it's the journalists job to dig deeper where as fans we'll more take the word of the person you want to believe. It's like when someone gets arrested for murder, often here, "My son didn't do it" AP and Athletic all kind of give similar accounts that the Bills easily could have done more, so it's not just the BN that is after them. McD's comments the other day before any of this was released after they cut Haack was something like "Araiza is a fine young man" Why say that if there's even the potential of something like this out there? So the team dug themselves into a bit of a hole IMO. Certainly not as deep as Cleveland has, but a bit of a hole. -

Thanks. Now if I actually knew what I was doing, I'd imagine I could tag him in my post or something similar. But I don't! -
But why in the beginning of the Denver game without Knox, the two playing with the starters were Morris mostly and some Sweeney? Howard only came in later and played till the end. Of the 3 I think Howard is the best blocker and most experienced, but isn't going to cause defenses to worry much, likely not going to give much YAC. But if I have 3rd and 3 and want to go wit ha 2 TE set, I'd put Howard in either as a blocker or to run a 4 yard slant or something. If it were 1st and 10 and going 2 TE set, I'd instead go with Morris as he could break one open. So where does that leave Sweeeny, IMO hoping they trade or just decide to take their losses and cut Howard. Overall think Howard provides more than Sweeney with the exception being ST plays, but maybe Morris can take Sweeney's spot there. Also think easier to sneak Sweeney onto PS than Morris.

OK have to ask. Not going to try and read 276 pages to find it but believe @SlimShady'sSpaceForce commented that he's a bit busy with his day job preparing for the NASA moon launch to comment too much on this thread. Just read the launch was canceled for today, do wonder if Two Bills Drive participation is the root cause of the delay?? -

Hadn't heard that story, but very believable as Al likely wouldn't listen to anyone but himself.
