Doubt Russ needs to worry, Jim O, yeah I'd be nervous if I were him. Do wonder if this happened quicker than planned due to all the leaks. TP just figured, lets get this done now and be done with it as opposed to constantly being questioned about it. If true that he knew he was being fired after the draft, is that really then being fired, or just more an agreement to part ways.

GM Doug Whaley has been fired
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Guess I'm completely confused as to why the Bills are being called classless for keeping Whaley through the draft and firing him the day after? From what I've seen prior, that's pretty much standard procedure in the NFL, typically front office contacts expire May 1st for that very reason. I'm pretty much favored keeping Whaley around, but if he is fired tomorrow, it's pretty much normal operating procedure in the NFL from what I see. -
Don't disagree with anything you stated, though not sure by next week if Whaley will be here or not. Either way, does appear McDermott is more calling the shots which may be what Whaley needs. He can find talent, but tends to make too many big moves that don't work out, so having someone to keep him in check may be all that's needed. Or wouldn't be shocked if he and everyone else in FO is gone either by May 15th.

Analytics view on QB trades
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BarleyNY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with this, recall reading in the past a pick for the following season is downgraded by one round so would be the equivalent of a 2nd rounder. However in this case, think it was very strategic by the Bills to give them the flexibility to move up to almost anywhere in the draft. So if Taylor bombs we'd have many more loses than wins, likely by somewhere mid season or later they'd bench him and maybe give Jones a good look. By the end of the season we could easily have a top ten pick again IF Taylor bombs. Combine a top 10 with a second 1st rounder, likely could move up to a top 2 or higher pick if throw in a 2nd or 3rd rounder too. If Taylor does well and feel we're OK at QB could get 2 players, maybe trade one to move up a few spots. So I think in the case of Buffalo flexibility for next season's draft is a good thing and am happy with the position they are in. -
Official schedule released
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the opposite. We'll likely start off slow with many new players, but as season goes on, players figure things out, last 4 of 5 games home and home with Miami and NE could be tough and may not win any but will fight to the end, but by the end of the season, teams will be happy when the game is over and done with us and things will be looking up for 2018. -
I'm not against Whaley like many here are, however, lets see if he still has a job by May 1st. Teams typically keep GMs around till after the draft as they did all the scouting and don't want that knowledge going to another team. Could be ultimately McDermott is making the picks, or at a minimum, he is approving the picks by Whaley. If that is the case, Whaley himself probably knows he'll be out of work in a couple of weeks.

steelers owner dan rooney dead at 84
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This had nothing to do with Dan was before his time, but all the coaches you mention were hired since around 1970. What about before that? If I remember right, they may have been the only team in the NFL who had never won a championship, and that was when there were only about 10 to 12 teams in the league. Certainly the bad years were all on Art, maybe when Dan got involved things were straightened out? Last 50 year, they've been a model organization, prior to that, not so good. -
Redskins sign Zack Brown

Comp Picks!! We're talking about Comp Picks?? Not real picks! Comp Picks! Not a real pick! No We're talking about Comp Picks! Really Comp Picks! -
For all the negative comments, this wasn't publicized, Kelly stated something to the effect this was in the works for over a month, beyond when the new communications guy came in. So they weren't doing it for attention. Don't know how he will work out as a coach, but agree certainly has a good approach. Kind of funny first time having a coach younger than all those players.

Moved in the mid 70's from the NYC area where I was a Jet's fan. Also liked the Giants too. In Baseball I was a Met's fan and hated the Yankee's, In football liked both but if the Jet's played the Giants rooted for the Jets. From the mid when I arrived till around 1985 still rooted for the Jets. In the late 70's many of those years the Bills were real bad and didn't always sell out at home which would make me happy as often then the local TV stations would then televise the Jet's game instead. Rooted for the Jets' to beat the Bills in that one playoff game, in 1980 or 81?? Interception by the Jet's in the end zone at the end of the game won it for them. Around 1984, the Jet's and the Bills both hit the skids so became hard to follow either. Kelly arrives the end of 86, all the media hype, couldn't help but get caught up in it and followed them ever since and have rooted for them to beat the Jets whenever they've played. Can say I've rooted for the Bills to beat the Jets more times than I ever rooted the other way. Back then was much harder to follow an out of area team without the internet and no Sunday Ticket for out of area games. Since 2008 moved to North Carolina but still follow the Bills and root for them. Only reason I have ST is to watch their games. With sites like this, easy to follow the same team even after moving. Probably if Al Gore had invented the internet prior to when I moved to western NY in 1976, I would have still followed and rooted for the Jets as now is the case with me still following the Bills. But back then was much tougher to not just root for the local team.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine Jerry
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to racecitybills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Finally read the article. Actually really don't have much of a problem with it as his point is more based on everything going on behind the scenes, it's time to move on. The problem I have is know idea how much of the stuff being reported is close to the truth. If it is then would agree, they should move on and maybe it will happen after the draft. -
Changes coming to Bills front office?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley will be here through the draft. After that we shall see. After the draft ends is often the time teams make changes anyway. It's also possible that DW knows he's gone after the draft, hence his not making much of any comments on different things. -

Sounds like Jerry did a great job with this article as he's getting plenty of responses. That makes it a success. -
Changes coming to Bills front office?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I don't believe much of what is written, just trying to put 2 and 2 together and come up with 6 and once in a while he may be right and then can say I told you so. Having said that often teams make front office personal leadership changes after the draft. So lets see if anything were to change in early May. -
Jay Cutler for backup?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BuffaloBud420's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So if you sign Cutler, or Kap, today's BN suggests bringing Fitz back, or whomever, are the Bills still drafting a QB? If so, are you then going to keep 4 QB's on your 53 man roster? That's alot at one position where likely if things go as planned three of them won't play at all. If you draft a QB up to the 4th round, you likely can't pass him through to the practice squad as someone likely would grab him if cut. The Bills did that with Levi Brown, but he was a 7th rounder. -
Not saying politics doesn't matter and he'd likely cause a distraction due to all the questions raised. In time would slow down and go away. LOL For all that claim they'd be done with the team, I'd be surprised if even one out of ten actually gave up on the team. The question is can he actually play and help. The advantage of having a guy like him as a back up would be you wouldn't have to re-do the offense if something happened to Tyrod as he could likely run all the same plays. It is hard to figure out what happened to him on the field that caused him to go from looking real good, to real bad.

Using existing talent vs. rebuilding
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Guess we could have kept Rex then if you wanted the same coach?? Explain to me why you seem to think we are rebuilding the team? Most of the players that left were FA, likely if Rex was still here still would have went elsewhere as doubt we'd have matched contracts for say Gilmore and Woods. We'll never make up for the lost of EJ I'm sure. The only FA that I'd like to see come back is Zack Brown and not sure he still won't. We cut Carpenter who many were happy to see, the only names of note that we let go were Corey Grahm and Nikell Robey. The majority of the players on last years roster are still here. In general terms though yes when you hire a new coach, he brings his coaching style to the team not the other way around and that's true wit hevery team i nthe league that hires someone new. If you don't want ot keep changing players, then you don't change coaches. The Rex hiring was a mistake for many reasons that have nothing to do wit hSunday afternoons, TP realized it and decided to cut his loses now and move on. Was it a set back, yes, but better to do it now than a year or two from now. -
Unlike most posters here. Could be one of these guys the Bills offered a long term contract too, but he wanted to test the market. Once he realizes no offers coming, he will come back and sign an extension with Buffalo. I'm assuming there are no rules agaisnt offering an extension to a player you just tendered??

Free Agents 2017 edition
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to CommonCents's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just read an article on MSN news about the worst FA signing this year. Bill's were mentioned twice. First for the dumb move by the Rams for Over paying for ex Bill's receiver Robert Woods who has shown to be no more than a #2 but the Ram's are paying him like a #1 Then SF signed some fullback and way over paid at $5mil per year which they compared him against the FB the Bills just signed for $1.2 mil. -
Could be hard to be on top of your game when you hardly get to play? Kind of which came first the chicken or the egg?? Did he not play enough to stay focused or did he not play because he wasn't good enough. We shall see. Great, then why not find a new team and new message board to post too. Why add to your misery by posting things and constantly being reminded how bad things are?
