Dennison's zone blocking scheme
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Original Byrd Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah I saw that too. Find it rather comical that people who post to message boards seem to think they are more knowledgeable than people who's careers depend on their knowledge and information about the sport. Since I admit not to be a technical expert in any way, I do wonder, could Kujo benefit from this and be able to handle RT position as maybe the alleged problem with his leg wouldn't matter as much?? -
Exactly!!
-
Agree that was around the number I came up with too that really worry me. The rest don't matter much. Granted 8 still may be more than other teams, but am willing to bet there are some teams out there who are losing less total players, but are potentially losing more impact ones. Well that's because they can see through the question and understand what the real issue is.

Oh Please, you want to believe that story, fine. Here's mine, pure speculation, but then again it's really nothing more than speculation that he was ever even really offered a job and why he turned it down. I do think TP offered him a job, but more as a consultant/low powered czar. Next thing you're hearing how Bill P is planning to hire his son and bring back AJ Smith, at that point Terry told him no, I'd like to hire you to do this specifically, but you're not running the show. At that point, Bill P walked away with his tail between his legs, but publicly gave this "too heavy a lift" story to make his tail look much better. And since he's a media guy himself, works for ESPN, they all bought it up big time and helped sell it down the line. TP is a pretty private kind of guy so he wouldn't be the type to come out and tell anyone what really happened, he was fine with Bill P spinning his tale.

Sal C. on Rex: Latest In Earliest to Leave HC
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I recall him talking about how his brother Rob would always work late, sleep in his office, but Rex himself stated how he never did that -
A. Peterson Says He Has 5 More Years In Him
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
5 years left him collecting pay checks while out for most games for various reasons. Yeah I can believe that! -
I'm OK with the blocking policy for the following reason. most position coaches are only signed to two year contracts which means at most there would only be one season that you could be prevented from leaving. I'm sure when coordinators leave for HC positions it does create some havoc for team losing him. But in reality there may be less than 1/2 dozen per year. Coordinators sometimes leave teams that don't even have a HC change. So if you were to allow anyone to also leave for every open coordinator positions, think there's just be too much churn. So for one year at most you're locked in Oh well, sorry!! I actually wonder if that was the reason the Bills retained Crossman as the guy McD wants is signed till next year and there wasn't anyone else he really wanted. Come the end of next season, regardless how well they may do, a change is made.

Proposed new penalty, and rules for review
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to John Gianelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To speed up the game, talk to the college officials and find out how they are able to review plays in about 1/3 of the time the NFL seems to take.. The one thing I think is unfair is all scoring plays are reviewed, but if a guy is ruled stopped by the officials say on the 1/2 yard line, then no auto review. Meanwhile the TV replays are showing he did score. So now coach is forced to ask for replay and if it's In the last 2 minutes, he can't even do that. But if he had ruled to have scored then there's an automatic replay. -
Doesn't Whaley have to retain Taylor?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So that fact that he was fired mean the media was correct, there was an ultimatum? Wow OK, Great thinking! OK wasn't sure if that was sarcasm or not?? -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're assuming there was an ultimatum. Other than the press creating one, not sure it ever existed for either. Either way personally don'tthink that was what got Rex fired. It was all the baggage that went with him that did him in. -
If Bills dump Taylor, where does he end up?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to dtgolder's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Reading the responses to date, some feel his choices are limited and not at high $$ value. Not sure I agree, but assuming that would be the case, then could see him coming back at reduced contract. IMO the Bills may try and re-do the contract, likely his agent will know the market , if there is demand for him, then he'll say no, and likely will be gone. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Rex was fired for not making the playoffs. He was fired for to many times either 10 or 12 men on the field, too many dumb penalties, constant boosting (which TP is the polar opposite of) hiring Rob, and other similar things. Even if he had come back another season and went 11-5., likely these things wouldn't have gone away. Granted one or two games on the other way, they may have been in playoffs, would he still have canned him who knows, but not likely these thingas would have gone away if he had made the playoffs either. In a way not making the playoffs, made it easier for TP. -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Makes him just as likely to spot the next Peyton as the GM in NE. If they were so smart, they'd have drafted Brady before the 6th round. There's many things you can blame DW for, but not finding the next Peyton is just an excuse by many here that want to blame him for everything. If it were so easy every team in the league minus the Bills would have a franchise QB, but they don't. Excluding falling into an Andrew Luck (and Peyton) and probably can also say Cam Newton, in two or three years may be able to add Philly and LA to the list and Denver if Paxton Lynch works out, the rest of the GM's in the league who do have good solid QB's were more lucky than good. Everyone's praising Dallas for picking up Prescott, but that was only due to Denver already selecting Lynch. What could be said is "Doug Whaley is just as lucky as every other GM in the league to spot the next Peyton" -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there's a real possibility that Whaley could be gone in May after the draft, believe front office contracts typically expire after the draft anyway. If he doesn't go then I agree with kdiggs, he's here for awhile. TP appears to be the kind of guy that doesn't like constant change so think he will give both McD and DW time to fix this. McD supposedly signed a 5 year deal, think he'll be here for at least the first 4. And think he'll give DW the time to get the players they feel they need. If the rumors are true that Rex was more a, TP choice than DW, again I think that gives DW a bit more rope. It also typically gets messy when you have a coach in place and bring in a new GM, unless you happen to find a GM with a long history with the HC so baring some really terrible draft choices, think DW is here as long as HC which I think is 4 years. Sounds like you're assuming DW is on thin ice. The only people who've stated that to be true is the media and many posters here. -

Do not rush the OC hire
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree, that's why I suspect he's already in place, just not announced yet. Root for the Steelers on Sunday! -
I think there is a chance DW could be gone after the draft as from I know front office contracts typically expire May 1st after the draft for the reasons being that person has done all the scouting. If he doesn't go then , I think he'll be around for a few years. McD signed a five year contract. I think he'll be given four years to turn it around as I don't think TP wants to do another coaching search if he can avoid it, would rather give McD time to fix things. If in two years, things are no better, can see TP more telling DW OK you need to fix the roster. If you fire DW and keep McD, then you get into the ugly messy situation with a GM in place who didn't hire the HC. So unless TP really feels DW is doing a terrible job in the draft or FA, I think he will be here as long as McD is. Glad to see Rex gone as he really made a mess of too many things. However with the leaks that he's going to be fired at year end, him being told he can't play TT, really can't blame him much at all to ask TP lets get this over with now. Didn't Dick Jauron do the same, left with about 3 or 4 weeks to go. Perry Fuwell was named interim coach and Bobby April was furious he wasn't named interim coach as his position was officially the assistant HC

Do not rush the OC hire
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On Thursday when McD first was announced as coach, the rumor was his LB or DB coach at Carolina would become the DC. That didn't happen at all, so other than the media saying it was McCoy, who knows if he was even seriously considered or not. I do agree likely the reason nothing is being talked about for OC is it's all agreed to who it will be but his team is still playing. And agree it likely is one of the two from KC. Why else would you hire the OL coach if you don't know who the OC will be? -
