We have a terrific field goal kicker we hate to use
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
What was the play call, apparently you must know. Maybe it was supposed to be a short throw, but that's again where Allen often decides to go for the kill and throw it long like in the Tenn game think it was on back to back plays. Maybe it was even a run play, but JA checked out of it. As far as the end of the Tenn game, sure they'd have made the kick, but IMO you were deciding between going for it on 4th and less than 1 and making that or a coin flip as the way Tenn was moving the ball if they won the flip in OT, high likelihood they go down the field and score a TD -
His injury also coincides with Browns injury too and this game add in Mongo. Think what really set the Bills back was counting on Ford. Last year was his first year at guard, played the first 5 games, got hurt in the 6th, missed the next two came back lasted about a quarter, got hurt again and was out all year. This year in played all pre-season, looked ok, but really hard to figure out much of anything from pre-season. So the Bills thought they'd be OK there, but quickly found out they weren't. But by then didn't have as many options to go to instead and now kind of playing a shell game to cover for it.

The biggest issue going into this past off season was the Defensive line so using their first two picks there wasn't a terrible decision by any means , they then used their next 3 picks on offense In 2020, their 1st round pick essentially was Diggs, 2nd rounder was on D, but their next three picks were all on offense, besides AJ only one other defensive pick In 2019 their 1st rounder was Oliver, but after that next three picks were all on offense including two 3rd rounders. Late picks did go to the defense And in 2018 you had Allen who they also used other picks on mainly 2nd rounders, then Edmunds, and Phillips, and late picks that year on offense. So really not so sure you can argue that they've ignored the offense as much as the picks they made haven't done so well.

Doyle's a 5th round rookie, being disappointed in him is rather un-fair. Even Basham, he's hardly been active on a team that is sitting 3 D lineman out every week. You could argue that he should be active instead of one of them, however that's up to the coaches. however he's sitting behind two of their DE who were both 1st round picks, one is who was a 2nd and Addison was undrafted, but does have many year experience under his belt. The fact that he's not beating them isn't really that surprising. It's like a comment I read earlier from someone who was disappointed in Sweeney. The fact that a 7th round pick is even in the league in 3 years is actually impressive.

It’s Daboll, please fire him
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
LOL and there's another thread started 4 or 5 days ago, stating Daboll may go to Bears next year and everyone was worried sick about losing him. -
The other thing too was resigning all their potential FA, i.e. Milano, Mongo, and Williams. At the time they were applauded for it, in hindsight may have been better spending money elsewhere in particular WRT resigning Mongo, and Williams as opposed to signing a FA lineman. May have been for the amount of money they had available couldn't likely sign anyone better than these two. Though may have been better off only signing one and drafting a rookie lineman for the other spot. Actually the did kind of do this in drafting Brown, Doyle, and Anderson however don't think they planned to need any of them to play this season barring injury.

Questions to ponder during the bye week
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to FilthyBeast's topic in The Stadium Wall
The dumb defensive penalties didn't help today either. -
But if the line could keep the heat off Allen, would it still work? Is it that we can no longer pass block? Is it the Tampa 2 or teams have figured out we can't hold anyone off? At least not with Brown out.
-
Not completely the same as if you don't win the challenge, you lose one that could be used later. Having said that, do agree if you're going to call the TO may as well throw the flag, but do lose something. Was it the Bills maybe 10 years ago, similar situation, team called a TO, then threw the flag and challenged. Lost the challenge, so now lost two TO's plus a challenge attempt.
-
Could be. Did think due to cap limitations this past off-season they were still weak in certain spots and were going to need another season of roster changes. Not sure if they figured us out or just very bad play from O-line
-
When you look at the stats, the difference was the turnovers and penalties. But turnovers were related to the line play and even rest of game weak line play changed everything.
-
But what did they do on the 9 runs, nothing. I thought they ran too much. LOL Someone pointed out if you take away two 10+ yard runs by Singletary, and he's pretty much done nothing.
-
Think the bigger issue is the line play. You still need a good line to run too. Not sure if Brown being out is hurting them so much up front and Mongo was playing well for awhile. Last week he struggled too Doubt trading for an O lineman at the deadline would have helped much as the likelihood of getting a starter isn't that good. Could have added depth, but that's not really their issue.

Tua fractured finger and hurt. Won't play... Again...
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Didn't want to start a new thread for this 1/2 hour before game time but just saw this: Tua is out today with a broken finger suffered in Q2 against Bills. Took him out twice this season! -

Wasn't necessarily talking about this season only, more career wise. Houston playoff game comes to mind, took them out of field goal range at the end. Admittedly that was two seasons ago and he's doing better of late. -

Keeping him around in case one of the "top two" gets hurt. I placed in in quotes as many could argue hard to say they are the top ones. Admittedly not often a team makes through all season without a RB getting hurt so they want someone who knows the offense. I agree with you in that was hoping they'd keep all three active each week, but the question then becomes who do you want to sit instead. The likely choice would be a D lineman, but already have 3 on the inactive list. Adding in the Bills are more a passing offense, hard to really argue with only keeping two active. -

Wow didn't know they kept a separate stat for bone headed sacks. So how many does Josh have career wise, where's does that rank on the bone headed list? Don't think anyone has said he gets sacked too much overall, but when he does many are ones that end up with 15 yard loses and ones that he easily could have thrown it away, but didn't. So overall sack stats don't tell the story here, unless as I asked they do keep a separate total for bone headed ones. -

I do tend to agree with Nineforty here, when he is sacked it's usually a bad one that often takes the team out of field goal range. He just sometimes tries to do too much. Do also agree with RiotAct that he's got much better at avoiding this but sometimes it creeps back in. Will also agree have seen Mahomes do the same recently too. -
Think we'll know by the start of FA, if Wallace is not signed to an extension, then IMO draft a CB in the 1st. If they sign him, then maybe O-line, but 1st round is a little high for interior lineman, admittedly it will be late 1st round, if lucky in the 30's!
