  1. Another backup caliber OL? Our entire OL room is backup caliber except Dawkins and maybe Morse, whose best days are in the past. No thanks. We need ABOVE average OL or better, not guys like Graham Glasgow or Nate Davis.
  2. I guess this means we'll sign a couple big name OL before the draft maybe??? We need a RG and RT at least. I don't want to even think about Bates and Brown starting again. What will it take for OBD to learn that you can't just throw a bunch of backup caliber OL out there and expect to win a SB?
  3. I'd be really happy if we land Dawand Jones at 27. He's a mountain of a man who has a regular habit of leaving DE's on the ground. If he's gone, I want O'Cyrus Torrence. I don't think Bijan Robinson will be there at 27, but he'd be my 3rd choice.
  4. 7 minutes ago, MrEpsYtown said: I would be okay with it, but slightly disappointed. I just want more impact with a first-round pick. Does that mean boom or bust? Yes. The solid starter is a meh for me. Considering that our OL is bottom 5 in the league and we only have a couple bona fide starters, there is no other position group other than OL whose upgrade could benefit the team more. I don't want to limp through another season with a bunch of backups manning our OL.
  5. The god of vague titles has been offended. 10 Hail Mary's please.
  6. I'll be severely disappointed if the Bills pick a defender at 27. I want an OL that makes ALL of the skill players look better. Other teams draft OL in the first round every year, but we treat our OL as an afterthought. We put guys in starting OL jobs that should be backups. I'd like to see our defense minded coach realize that as a HC, he's responsible for the offense too. No more excuses. I want a top 10 OL at least, preferably top 5. Right now we are bottom 5. We won't win a SB like that. Look at the OL's of last season's final 4. The Bengals OL was banged up, but the other 3 had excellent OL's. People overlook OL for the same reason they overlook 1-Tech. Those guys don't make the sexy plays, but they make all the guys around them look better.
  7. I'd love to sign McGlinchey. He's good but not great, so I think we could afford him. Draft Mauch too. We might need to move up in the 2nd or trade down for Mauch and a receiver. Van Noy is the kind of LB I'd like us to sign, but can he play MLB? Trai Turner would be kinda like a 3rd wheel at G with Mauch, Boettger, Bates and Van Roten. Mauch, I think, is the only one that inspires me. Our other G's are backups or low end starters and that's what Turner is also. Isaac Suemalo would be OK too. Nothing special, but affordable.
  8. Give us your starting 5 OL that you'd like to see. Be reasonable if possible. Who do we sign, draft or trade for. Name names. We know it's near impossible to get it all right, but we won't take it out of your paycheck. Just give it your best shot in the dark, so to speak.
  9. I want a nastier edge to our OL too. I remember Clowney roughing up Tyrod one time after the whist'e and Richie just threw him like a rag doll. I know he messed up, but I still miss that about him. You want that on both sides of the ball.
  10. On 3/2/2023 at 10:43 PM, colin said: he's simply not a big enough of an impact player to sign for what another team will pay him, not to us and not in our D at the least. rando mid tier free agent D Jones had a bigger impact on our D being out vs cincy than edmunds ever has. the front 4 and the scheme protects the back 7 in our D, so saving and getting max value in the back 7 is the key to logistical success. a strong improvement in 1 or 2 OL positions which could be secured w what edmunds would make would do so much more to improve our team. our d would be likely slightly worse, but our OL would be much better. if we also improve by adding one additional target, not exactly an impossible task, we legit have a shot at an all time type of offense w josh allen running the show. Very true. Josh is clearly our best player and the key to our success. A top 5 OL makes everyone else on offense look better and gives us a solid run game that other teams have to take into account every play. If we could save $20 million to spend on the OL and a real #1 RB that could give us 1200 yards or more, Josh would have an MVP year. Take the pressure off Josh and let a big, nasty OL take some of the load. Add a solid WR2 and better TE depth. How do you stop that? As long as the DL can bring pressure, I believe we can be a better, more complete team. The Chiefs, Eagles and Bengals definitely figured out the value of a good to great OL and it showed. Josh in a clean pocket with a top 5 run game that features a bullish RB that can wear down defenses works for me. If we win in the trenches, we'd have to beat ourselves in order to lose.
  11. I think this is Beane's toughest offseason, but this may not be his toughest decision if another team pays at or near $20 million. I just don't think you pay a MLB that kind of money unless he's on par with Luke Kuechly, a future HOF'er. That's especially true this offseason when we have one of the very worst OL's in the NFL that is holding us back. Get an average MLB who's decent in zone coverage for half that amount. There are much higher priorities.
  12. Well he has a little starting experience. I mean no disrespect to Ike, but I'm hoping the Bills bring in a couple headliners on the OL and another 1 or 2 solid veterans that will send a player of Ike's caliber to this point to the PS, if eligible or to another team. Alternatively, I hope he comes back with a vengeance and plays his best football to date. That might be hard after a serious injury, but I'm just hoping for the best result.
  13. It makes little sense to talk about the tax rate as if we were all taxed the same. Pro football players probably pay a much higher rate than the owners when everything is taken into account. The players aren't moneybombing the politicians in order to get a few convenient tax loopholes. Any politician that tries to raise taxes on the wealthiest families will be buried in attack ads. That's why you pay a higher rate than Amazon.com which gets enormous tax refunds each year. The players are mostly in that income strata where the rates are highest and they can't call it capital gains or set up fake corporations or tax shelters overseas. One trick used to avoid taxes is to set up a fake corporate office in a place like the Canary Islands and deposit a huge portion of your earnings or dividends in the overseas branch of your bank in the same place -- the Canary Islands in this case. Then you call the US branch of your bank to take a big loan (which isn't taxed). The bank simply takes the amount of the loan from your Canary Islands account and that money stays there. The loan is repaid almost immediately overseas where the US government can't touch it. No taxes or very little. No interest because it was repaid almost immediately. Neat trick, huh? Maybe the NFL should offer that 'service' to the players or adjust salary caps to account for differing state tax rates.
  14. Great player and great teamate. I just wish his wife would shut up about the money.
  15. They like Gabe because he has a strong work ethic. I suspect he'll be a Bill for years to come, but not as WR2. You don't disrespect your players publicly if they're doing their best -- even if they're not good enough to start. 4 hours ago, TheBrownBear said: It's GM speak. You show your hand and you end up trading up for Kair Elam instead of Trent McDuffie. Buddy Nix used to say you should never believe any GM's before the draft. I wouldn't want Buddy back as GM, but he could do the press conferences. He had the gift of gab.
  16. I agree with everything but Poyer and the time limit. Poyer had an excellent season despite playing with numerous injuries. Also, why will we only have a good defense for 1 more year? With McDermott at the helm, I think our defense will always be respectable.
  17. I don't know what he'd cost, but he's exactly what we need. I wonder if we'll need to sign at least 1 serious upgrade on the OL before any FA RB would want to come here though. Our OL might scare them away.
  18. It wasn't any 1 play, but I'll go with "the hit heard 'round the world". I wonder how many are old enough to remember it. 20 hours ago, Sargent Hulka said: Booth Lusteg (University of Connecticut) missing a 23 yard field goal with six seconds left to beat the San Diego Chargers at War Memorial on October 16, 1966, after Buffalo rallied from a 17-0 deficit to tie. Even with that heartbreaker, Buffalo made it to the AFL Championship that season. After that miss, some Bills fans spotted Booth Lustig walking on Chippewa Ave. They got out of the car and beat him up.
  19. 24 minutes ago, SCBills said: Thinking back, Dorsey was dealt a pretty bad hand. I'm optimistic he has a good Year 2. -He has a brand new OL coach trying to implement a new scheme with middle of the road talent, which led to a bottom third OL ranking. -He had no real slot WR after Crowder went down early in the season. -His WR2 turned out to be a high end WR3/big play threat. -Josh Allen busted up his elbow halfway through the season and clearly wasn't right, albeit improving, throughout the rest of the season. I wish our OL had mid level talent. That would be a big upgrade. I agree on your other points though.
  20. Despite a couple big flops, he has done an outstanding job in Buffalo and Minnesota. I seriously doubt he'll be back, but some other team will be lucky to have him in 2024. Isn't it just like a few small minded fans to overlook the devastating impact of all the injuries he had to deal with this past season. I don't know that anyone else could have done it any better. That said, I'm hopeful for the future. If our defense can stay where it's at with a healthy DL and the OL gets a huge upgrade, 2024 will be our best year ever.
  21. 4 hours ago, ßookie_tech said: I can't say that I'd feel very good about going into next season with him being our starter, having never played the position before. Agreed. Sign a veteran at an average salary to compete. Same for MLB. These are not positions I want to be spending something like $15 mill/yr on. We need that money for a guy like Orlando Brown and Saffold's replacement/upgrade as well. I'd say draft those guys, but you know what you're getting from a FA usually. Use the draft for wideouts, Oliver's replacement, interior OL after day 1, RB, etc. We need to go to 'win now' mode. I want to see 2 big OL signings or I'll be writing 2023 off as another 'not good enough' season. Time to get serious about an OL that can carry the load.
  22. Apart from money considerations, he's still got gas in the tank. I just don't want to put too much money on the LB position when our OL is such a disaster.
