Oh my, the first gross hyperbole of the day. The institution is hardly being "attacked."

Will gambling ruin the NFL and sports in general?

‘one of the number one things’? How many number one things do you have? -
I think in order to truly evaluate this question you first need an agreed-upon list of who the "franchise QBs" are in the league. I'll suggest that these are QBs who were drafted highly and are either still on the team they were drafted by or have received a significant multi-year contract from their current team. This eliminates journeymen or 1-year FA signees. In no particular order: AFC: Allen Mahomes Burrow Tua Maye Jackson Herbert Geno Nix Stroud Lawrence Ward NFC: Hurts Prescott Daniels Love Wilson Goff Mayfield Young Murray Purdy Stafford Darnold On that list I'm throwing out the rookies or 2nd year guys because we truly don't know yet, so Daniels, Maye, Ward, Nix, and Wilson come off. Based upon all of that, Bryce Young might be the worst "franchise" QB in the league. If we only look at guys with 2nd (or 3rd) contracts then I'd say Darnold kind of sticks out like a sore thumb, although Lawrence is right behind him. I think Murray has done more than either of those two guys. It's definitely not Baker.

Agree with 1 and 2 for sure, and the UK experience supports both. We have moved towards advertising restrictions and affordability checks, bans on credit cards and other credit functions. On 3 - not sure that bet "in-play" has actually been proven more dangerous / risky, but if there is evidence to that end interested to see it. -

I'm glad I know that when I gamble I lose so I do it rarely, maybe a billion dollar Powerball ticket or something but that's the extent with me. I've never used the online gambling sites and I know I'd just give them my money, so I don't. One person here said gambling and greed will ruin the NFL, I'm not sure about the gambling part but greed generally kills everything. -
Tomlin gets his high ranking for winning a Super Bowl and he also hasn't had a losing season his entire time coaching the Steelers. I am not saying he deserves to be 5th but the Super Bowl win and no losing seasons are why the media have him that ranked that high. With McDermott the media sees Allen as one of the best QBs in the game along with a good (NOT GREAT) roster and yet no Super Bowl appearances. The playoff failures are probably why the media has him ranked low.

Great take and insight and something I hadnt thought about before. The timing was lost in my childhood memory and I hadnt realized it occurred on the path to our first SB. Totally agree. -

This is a good start - Maybe also ban the mining of personal data that optimizes the amount a person gambles and also marketing tactics designed toward putting people on the path toward addiction? I was playing live poker at a casino recently and the person to my immediate right was on his phone the whole time sports betting - He wasn't even remotely engaged in the poker game at hand. It's the 24/7 remote/internet access to sports betting that's really scary. I used to play poker online but eventually stopped because it was so depressing and boring. -

There’s a JetBlue Flight that leaves JFK at 8:22 and gets to Buffalo at 10 PM. It’s currently $84!! You can do Ryder Cup, Yanks and be to Buffalo in time to get a good night sleep before hitting the tailgate. Ultimate dudes weekend -
Been having this argument with someone for decades about how Ralph kept the team in Buffalo when he could have moved it, and the same goes for the Sabres.
