Evaulation (of this team) after a quarter of season gone
Westside replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree. Our WR group is below average. Shakir is almost invisible during games. This”everybody gets to eat” offensive game plan is terrible for a high school team, absolutely ridiculous for a nfl team. Our rookies can’t seem to get on the field, our DL is a joke. Has anyone checked Daquan Jones for a pulse? A corpse falling over would put up a better run defense than that guy. Absolutely dreadful!!! Thank GOD the afc is a joke this year. That might be the biggest thing going for us now. -

Because yardage stats are often misleading, and don't tell the whole story. The teams we have played so far are mostly run-first teams (Baltimore, New York, New Orleans), and/or have some of the worst starting QBs in the entire league (New York, New Orleans). Plus, they are absolutely gashing us on the run... so there hasn't been much reason to attack us that way. Again... most teams are going to attack where a team is the weakest. When a team can't tackle, they are going to test you with the rushing attack and short passes that rely on YAC. Plus (as I said previously), we have played against Justin Fields, Tua Tagovailoa and Spencer Rattler -- not exactly guys known for aggressively attacking defenses downfield. Lamar Jackson spent 85% of the game handing off and playing with a big lead. When the opposing QB drops back to pass, he's got a clean pocket and plenty of time (over 2 seconds) to throw. Or the D-Line over-pursues, gives up contain and allows them to take off running. And the secondary isn't doing a good job of defending passes once it's been released. From what I've seen, teams haven't had much trouble throwing when they need to do it, regardless of what the stats say. For example... It won't count in the stat book, but the Saints should have taken the lead yesterday with 9 minutes left. On 3rd-13, we got zero pass rush and Brandin Cooks beat his man. Rattler just made a poor pass. That kind of play counts as a positive stop for our pass defense, when it was really just a bad job by the quarterback. My worry is that our schedule doesn't really give the defense much of a real test, and stats are going to be skewed most of the season. Our next three opponents are Drake Maye, Michael Penix and Bryce Young. Very good chance our passing rankings will be pretty good by the end of the year. And then we head into the postseason to face Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson. -
Time to discuss Reid Ferguson...

I think the LS on that game was a DeOssie they recruited from the couch to fill in. And, weirdly, the fire drill would have resulted in a TD pass but the receiver got a smoked before the ball arrived. -

Madibuke is out for the season. Huge loss for them. KC is now the main foe for 2025. -

Rapp looks lost often. He is not hitting like last year. He’s taken bad angles and missed many tackles. Last year Rapp was probably our best tackler. Not this year -

He is a rookie in a DT rotation so he isnt going to get a lot of solo tackles in his first 4 games. Picking on that one stat is a bit ridiculous imo. -
Hurts had zero second-half completions yesterday, and Philly still beat an undefeated team on the road.

At this point I'm over what we do in the regular season. Maybe that's irrational but we are as super bowl or bust as a franchise can get IMO. I see a team that has the same fatal flaws it has had for the last 5 years. I sincerely hope I'm wrong but I fear the defense is going to get lit up again in the playoffs and no matter what 17 does we're going to lose in the divisional/AFCG like we do every year. That is just the ceiling with Beane/McDermott IMO. -
Bad Bunny will be the Super Bowl halftime act

I don't think the talent is as good as we all think it is. They have a reputation as a good drafting team, so when a player is drafted by them his assessment goes up a few notches. Also, whenever they make a move it is seen by fans around the league as a good move, even it was a move that would be questioned if another team made it. Even the professional talking heads are guilty of this. It's circular thinking. Like "The Ravens made a move, and it must be a good move because the Ravens make good moves." Exhibit one of this would be the response here when they signed Jaire Alexander. Now their fans know better, of course, because they live with the team day in and day out. They are really angry at Eric DeCosta, who everyone here thinks is without flaw, for drafting a safety and neglecting the offensive and defensive lines. They also have a reputation having a really good and physical defense. It can take years for that perception to shift in the eyes of the public. Look at how long it took for people to stop assuming that the Steelers defense would be good. -
He's throwing for 152 ypg right now. That's too low to be an MVP.

My thought is on Bobby Babich. Is it time to get concerned? When Frazier and Mcdermott ran the D, we had injuries, we played backups, but we always finished top ten in most categories. Since Babich has taken over it feels like a slow decline into total mediocrity and lack of identity, not unlike that second year with Dorsey when eventually the offense just hit a wall and was done. I remember at times when Frazier would struggle, McD would step in and help get the ship righted. Will that happen here and how much leash is left for Babich at this point? Or was our past success really just having an incredible secondary in their prime?

Lamar Jackson +900? Is this a joke? Lamar is done. He shouldn’t be anywhere near this list. And how is Baker Mayfield not on this list?

Totally unlikeable coach, IMO. I predict a total meltdown in Chicago eventually... maybe even by the end of the season

Also as I stated before whoever is on top of the betting odds is who will win the award. the stats don’t even matter other than to help guys getting higher up on the betting odds along with how their team is doing. So all you have to do is look at the betting odds each week to see who the ACTUAL front runners are. Nothing else matters in reality. Like I said whoever has finished as the betting odds leader after the last week of the season has won the MVP every year for the last 25 to 30 years other than the one year Adrian Peterson was 2nd in the betting odds and won it.

I don't think the issue here is the words on paper. It is the aggressiveness and physicality to his response that was the problem. He leans in to literally talk down to her. Lets change the context, if you talked to a dude like that out in public you would likely get in a bit of an altercation. He wouldn't dare do that to somebody built like Vrabel. My partner and I have some work overlap, and if I caught a guy do that to her at a work event, we would likely have words. He could have condescendinly smirked and stayed standing up straight and we would all just shrugged this off.

Thanks. At those odds Mahomes and Goff are the best bets IMO.

He seems like the kind of guy that goes out to restaurants and berates the wait staff over minor things to feel good and enjoys ruining their day just because he can.

I said he was wrong and I agree that he’s most likely a grade A a-hole. And the reporter knows that too. She got exactly what she was hoping for and they both look bad. As a sideline reporter mid game, your job isn’t to try and get a negative reaction from the HC. And imo, that’s exactly what she was doing
