Do we have any options to fix this?

 

Can Darnell Savage play nickel?

 

Anything outside the box we can do?

 

Or do we just have to hope they stop being an absolute explicit weakness on this Defense. 
 

Linebackers looking much better.   Maybe we get back Bernard healthy and actually use him off ball. 
 

Bishop and Benford are absolute studs. 
 

Hairston shows promise and White/Poyer have stabilized and are solid.  
 

DL, not great, but IF we can get back Bosa and Oliver come postseason… even at 80%, there’s hope this group elevates some when it matters.  
 

Taron Johnson and Cam Lewis are being targeted and abused every game out there.  Without a doubt, the biggest weakness this Defense has.

I thought the Nickel was going to be Hancock's future spot, but looks like they're working him in at Safety. Maybe Dorian Strong when he comes back next year?

Don’t know a ton about Savage, but seems he played a lot of nickel in Green Bay before Jacksonville moved him to safety (if Google is accurate).

Savage has played some Nickel in his career and I think he would be a great nickel in this system. Has good size and has shown in the past to be a ball hawk. Problem is he has to learn the playbook and fast

Gesicki has given this team problem for his entire career for one reason or another.  They also had their hands full with jamarr chase lining up inside with some frequency.  

 

TJ seems to be playing a bit slower this year, and i wonder if quad/groin injuries are a big part of that.

He's likely getting the fire-hose treatment as we speak.  I don't think he's taking TJ's job, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him in the rotation with lewis in dime looks.

Hairston got abused a couple of times by Tee Higgins, that sideline reception in the end-zone was a a catch only a few can make.

Listen to the McDermott interviews…..that neck injury sounds like a career ending one.

McDermott also said he’s had conversations with Strong that he’d like to keep private.

The next question is, will this injury impact his career? Neck injuries are tricky and often dealt with conservatively.

Taron Johnson has had such an up and down career but this season it feels different. It's likely time to move on.

 

I don't think there's any real answer on the roster though.

undersized back 7 players who can’t tackle or cover are huge liabilities.  
Put guys on the field who can at least tackle.

That catch I don't put on Hairston. Higgins clearly tossed him out of the play. 

 

But over the course of the day, he had some learning moments. He looked exactly like I would expect a rookie CB to look against Burrow and Higgins.

ok - but you're taking a quote from a mid-season press conference and stretching its meaning.  Essentially it didn't respond to the treatment like they hoped.  Does that mean career ending?  Sure.  Does it possibly mean offseason surgery?  Who knows.

agree. I like how Lewis plays for a depth guy. He actually will make some plays. Taron looks lost out there and I worry that he has fallen off a cliff.
