A pinned thread means that it stays at the top of the page even if no one has posted on it for a month.

Sort of like the smoking lamp is lit; i.e. it's OK to talk about the Bills some in this game thread.

That little green pin holds a thread at the top of the page so it doesn't drop down and get mixed in with the unpinned ones.

We usually use it for threads that we expect to be heavily trafficked in the short term so it's easy for people to find/click on them, but also for the weekly Game Week threads for ongoing discussion about that week's game.
