How do we feel about Higgins playing most of the game concussed?

If he passed all their tests, there is nothing they can really do. If the player wants to continue playing, that’s on him. Let’s not forget there was a time when there was no concussion protocol. Players played concussed all the time.

Likely they did, but as was posted someplace else, the players know what to say to pass the test and continue playing.  It  was strange that Dawkins finished the game, then mid week was in CP.  Does that mean on Wednesday he self reported?

It’s atrocious and the NFL should be ashamed of themselves. Not to mention Higgins, just like Dawkins against Houston, displayed a drop in performance. I realize Higgins made the difficult Touchdown catch but he also dropped a a few right in his hands.

I hear you, but I think we have known this for quite some time now, medical professionals have certainly known for decades, it’s serious stuff when one’s brain slams into one’s skull, not saying otherwise, but as Omar put it, “it’s all in the game” all the players, coaches, and administrators know this, as do the fans, mitigating the problem certainly helps but the reality is that players play with concussions every week.

That means he didn't display obvious symptoms until after the game.

The irony is that Damar Hamlin almost died taking a hit to the chest from Higgins.   But in this case, it’s only injuries to a guy’s brain and the game is important, so have to keep him in.

The overall quick wit thinking and athleticism it took for that play, how smooth he was doing it, he sure looked fine. But as we all saw, he hit his head hard twice, and showed bad signs in his reactions. It's supposed to be independent neurologists doing the evaluatuion, is it not?

I won't dispute that.

But when you start racking up multiples in a shortened time frame, that's when it gets really, really dicey.

If folks are correct and he took another one (and possibly two today) while just coming out of protocol 3 days ago, that is when things get genuinely dangerous.

I think that is what the league really needs to focus on mitigating, not just the standard bell-ringers that everybody gets occasionally.

It felt like this game was their Super Bowl.  They win and 5-8 gives them a shot at the division.  Now 4-9 and it’s game over for them.  They disregarded their players long term health for a shot at the playoffs.  I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t see Tee Higgins for a while now that their season is over.

 

I don’t blame the player and by default I don’t blame the team.  I blame the NFL for being able to buzz in if they see someone fall weird but you can watch Tee Higgins head bounce off frozen turf like a basketball and there’s nothing worth looking at?

In fairness he bobbled his very first catch of the game too.... but yea, he was clearly not right.

Not a complete solution by any means, but I think there should be a rule that any player in the first game back from a concussion who needs to be evaluated again for a concussion should automatically be ruled out of that game regardless of the sideline evaluation.
