According to Cover 1, Coleman will be a healthy scratch (rumored for Texans game too)

Salvaging his trade value for next year. The alternative is to keep showing everyone how bad he is and how little he has progressed.

5th round pick at this point?

No issue with this as long as they are trying to get the win.  Maybe they found major lapses in his game such as blocking

.....and then some

While I understand that there are circumstances in a game where the situation requires throwing to a covered player, who you hope wins the contested catch, I have never understood why people place such high value on that particular skill.  I would much rather have play designs and WRs with separation skills that you don't actually have to make contested catches.   I feel like I have spent the last 20 years watching Wes Welker, Julian Edelman and Travis Kelce catching wide open passes in situations where everyone in the stadium and watching on tv knew where the ball was going before it was even snapped.  I want those types of plays and types of players.  Honestly, I don't want to have an offense designs plays that end in contested catches.  If for arguments sake, one were to stipulate Coleman is meaningully above average NFL level skill in that category, but below average in every other measure, I wouldn't roster him.

This is a fantastic post. A huge reason for my disdain of the Keon pick is this. Why are we so concerned with finding a guy that is good when covered?!? How about we find a guy that avoids getting covered?!? The best WR years in Bills history belong to Diggs. He was/is elite as a route runner. Give me guys that get open over guys that make 50/50 balls 58/42 balls.

It’s a self fulfilling prophecy that when a guy gets drafted as high as Coleman( 1st rd if you factor the trade down) management will sacrifice the success of the position group to force development of the pick. Our offense became run first with short receiver screens or check downs because our primary wideout couldn’t get open or nonchalanted his route and didn’t even bother to sell it. It took 10 games and Josh looking frustrated and ineffective to realize Coleman was a huge problem. Now, with the a realistic group( still lacking a true #1 or #2) giving Josh opportunities downfield and open receivers, we’re looking formidable. Sadly, this is the biggest indictment of a defensive/ST HC. He knew how undeveloped and mentally checked out Coleman was way before this but allowed team confidence to diminish rather than pull the trigger on replacing him. If we’re going to be successful Brady has to take charge of personnel similar to what Dabol did. Brady did a 180 in his play calling when Sean finally sat Coleman.

Soooo who's leaking the tea to Cover 1?

My thoughts exactly. If there’s one thing you can say for this organization it’s usually they do make some effort to keep the drama in house

Keon being a healthy scratch is very predictable.  Josh needs WR's who know how to make themselves available quickly and especially when he's moving around evading pass rushers.  I understand that they *thought* they needed a tall 50/50 guy on the roster, but in retrospect that doesn't work well for Allen.

It would work if they find a big/tall WR who can do a few other things as well

Looking back at the Coleman optimism.  My opinion is the 17th post on the 1st page & I got a lot of negative feedback.

I think I heard Bears coach Ben Johnson just say what you are saying, and I agree whole heartedly.  I would want guys who can actually get open.

I think it’s effort and consistency.  Too emotional.  Baltimore he looked great.  Stretches last season he looked great.  Not having the same juice all the time is a problem.  Acting like AJ Brown without being AJ Brown is the problem imo.  Not being a feature of the offense imo is affecting him.  He is on his last life.  I think Allen has 0 trust and feel with him.

Keon wasn’t even good at contested catches in college, that’s the crazy part.  He is exactly what everyone said he would be and what the arrogant GM apparently thought he wasn’t.
