I'm obviously not happy they didn't add to the WR room. I thought it was a mistake in the offseason and I think it's still a mistake now. The AFC is wide open but I don't trust this offense to make critical plays in critical moments at the end of games.

But oh well, they'll play the games and we'll see if they were right to stand pat. I'm not gonna spend the rest of the week whining about it. They made their bet and they have to be right.

Question is who could they get and fit under the cap and what would they have to give up?  Chris Olave was likely not really available unless they sent a couple of 1s back and I think he would have helped, but wasn’t going to guarantee a SB spot.

The term overpaying is overused. You have to take risks when the window is open. Unless beating the Chefs in the regular season is good enough.

No way was Beane going to get a WR and have to walk back his comments on air on WGR and in interviews that followed.

IMHO, we need defensive line help also. I didn't think we’d be able to swing two trades, unless he had some cap gymnastics in his pocket.

Not entirely surprised. Ticked at the sale price for Shaheed..felt we could have done that.

True. But the reason it's so frustrating is that the AFC is basically wide open. Ravens, Chiefs and Bengals are all on the outside looking in at this point. We aren't even on top of our division as perhaps the stiffest competition this year is sitting with us in the AFCE in the Pats.

A third round pick in the upcoming draft isn't gonna help them win the Super Bowl this year. But it could have possibly landed Shaheed and helped this year.

(I see others in this thread preemptively bashing those who are unhappy like me)

There’s always a deal to be had but does it make sense? We don’t know what they were offering on Wilson or Waddle or Olave. If the Dolphins said, 2 1’s for Waddle would you do it? That’s too rich for me. I would have for Wilson but apparently they didn’t want to deal with division teams (guessing that was the Pats too).

The Bills are one of the best few teams in football. The only contenders that improved today are Seattle, Philly and Indy. It’s not like the elite teams all improved while the Bills stayed still.

I’ve been pounding the table to “make a move” as much as anyone. There wasn’t one that moved the needle.

Beane is satisfied with making the playoffs with the best QB/RB tandem and not using draft capital to fill gaping holes in the roster. That’s the deal,Buffalo fans just go along with him not bringing in a #1 or #2 receiver, not bringing a better safety now that Rapp is gone and no D-tackle with Jones, Oliver and Jones out long term. He’s always in cap hell and he freezes at the prospect of making a deal involving draft choices. His drafts suck( Coleman, Sanders and Turner)  all have done nothing and he keeps players, sucking up cap space longer than necessary ( Miller,Milano, Jones. Epenesa)  He survives on the coattails of Josh, Cook and some O -lineman. Oh well

I'll be on a lonely island here, glad we didnt make a trade.  Guys not signed for next year: Bosa, AJE, Daquan, Ogunjobi, Milano, Thompson.   Guys a lot of people want replaced: Rapp, Tre.  Hoecht might not be ready to start the year.  We're over the cap in 2026 as of right now, so what's your plan for next year if you give away picks?   Beane's job is to look at this team long term not just this year.  There are still a lot of holes to fill next off season.

Sounds good as long as you hit on the draft picks.

I think if we really want to get technical, Beane’s job is to take this team to the Super Bowl every year (as is every GM’s).

Allen is in his prime right now. Who cares where this team will be in 2030. Start worrying about that in 2029.

As for the 2025 Bills - we could’ve used some help, which likely could’ve been obtained for a 3rd pick (Shaheed) or maybe even a 2nd round pick (Olave).

The Bills are still great, and likely the team to beat in the AFC. But at some point in Allen’s career we are going to have to go all-in somewhere other than the DL.

Perfect! Now we can spend another seven draft picks on defensive linemen that won’t play in 2026.

Wut?

I’m disappointed, but Beane didn’t have much cap to work with.

I was hoping he’d swing for the fences, but after reviewing the cap ramifications of going all in, I realize, sadly, that Beane didn’t have the cap room to get done what we needed done.

I think Beane & Co were hoping Hoecht and Ogunjobi were the shot in the arm the D needed.

The lack of cap space is entirely on Beane's watch, so you can't exactly give him a pass there. Knox is taking up $14.5mil to block, Samuel is taking $9mil to sit, Bass is taking a cool $4.6mil to watch his replacement be just as effective for 1/5 of the price... Oh and then there's Von's $15mil of dead waste.

And all teams have some albatross on the books, for sure. But all of those contracts were a bit sus at the time they happened, and then aged like vinegar since then.

I don't blame Beane for not making a move today, but there's plenty to criticize in the last few off seasons that got us here.

You can't have it both ways. Sign everyone right up to the cap, then complain there's no cap.

The one that surprised me was the Shaheed trade. That was probably worth the price considering we may get a comp pick for losing someone anyway.

Another year of Josh Allen's prime wasted. That's the bottom fkg line.

Thats why will be limping into the playoffs with our depleted defense going 2 and done like every other year... Wide receiver shoulda been added in the offseason anyways... Now its to late...

These deadline deals rarely work in football. Its not like hockey. If the Bills could have pulled a deal like Florida getting Marchand this year that would have been amazing. But I am disappointed that they didnt add any depth. The Cowboys Jets trade for Williams might have been nice but the Bills just dont have the cap room? or the price was too high? Maybe the Jets dont trade in their division?
