Steelers ownership growing frustrated with Tomlin

If the Steelers did move on from him then I could see the Dolphins, Giants as being interested assuming he gets canned along with McDaniel and Daboll

Tomlin's head coaching record as of the end of the 2024 season is a regular season record of 187-109-2 (4-3 in 2025) and a playoff record of 8-11.

 

He has a career regular season win percentage of .631 and a playoff win percentage of .421, has won one Super Bowl..(41-45  in coach challenges/video reviews) .holds the record for most consecutive non-losing seasons to begin a coaching career with 18 and has never had a losing season..only Tom Landry (21) more non-loosing seasons

Said to make 16M per.

 

Similarities to McDemott:  91-47....659 winning percent..7-7 in playoffs... 1 loosing season out of 8...(11-27 in coach challenges/video reviews) William and Mary mates...defensive "wizards" who figure it out and win enough to keep the contracts coming but have post-season blemishes that irritate and frustrate...

 

Further..McDermott... as the clock ticks off the years of his franchsoe QB...has never won a playoff road game and if NE wins the AFC East Bills will be on the road for the entire playoffs loosing one of the best home field advantages of weather and crowd...

Yeah, I think here he would be more or less a lateral move. But a team like the Dolphins? Yeah they need a guy like him to reset that culture.

I’m seriously doubtful Tomlin will get fired.  That’s not the Rooney way.  They may be disappointed in some aspects of coaching, but they’ve also enjoyed a pm equal or winning record for what 15 years or longer.  Granted Tomlin inherited a solid team under Cowher.

I actually want Rodgers to lead the Steelers to a division title. For 2 reasons.

 

1. Keeps the Ravens out of the playoffs. Can't see them getting in as a WC.

2. It would piss off Jets fans as they would wonder why couldn't he do that for them.

My buddy is a lifelong steeler fan and has wanted to get rid of Tomlin for at least 10 years. He’s given up just like anyone who wants McDermott gone should give up. Owners want to make money and as long as teams are “good” and making money which both the Steelers and bills do, no changes will be made. Jmo

They both went to William and Mary!

 

Tomlin is 0-6 in his last 6 postseason games and they've allowed a whopping 38.3 points per game. The PIT offense has turned it over a bunch of times in those games, but that highly paid and ranked DEF has been awful as well.

In the playoffs I want no part in the Bills playing at BAL or KC. Wouldn't mind if they had to go to INDY, NE, or even DEN. Although the Broncos have a long history of being a tough out playing at Mile High.

I don’t know.  I think tomlin wins a super bowl by now with josh allen.  Certainly makes one.  Different expectations when you have an MVP quarterback.  Steelers QB play has been trash the past 8-9 years.  Tomlin would be a much hotter commodity if both him and mcdermott were let go.

McDermott is have to fire himself before Pegula will. Just look at the Sabres and realize Pegula got lucky and isn’t going to take a chance of the Bills becoming the Sabres.

Major difference: there is almost never an opening with an established MVP, future HOF level QB in his prime. 

 

The Bills would have the pick of any available coach. 

 

Barring injuries, MVP level QBs in the prime don't play on teams with Sabres like results.

Yeah EXCEPT - Tomlin inherited a Super Bowl ready roster when he took over for Cowher.  Had a future HOF QB at the helm, and several other HOFs/All-pros.

Yeah, they have only had 3 head coaches since 1969. They won't move on until Tomlin retires, I don't think

The Steelers to me are a lot like the Saints, just with a higher floor. For years they've needed to take an intentional step back to then take bigger steps forward, but they've been unwilling to take their medicine. Trading for Metcalf and signing old Aaron Rodgers for his last rodeo was more of the same. They should have already fired Tomlin and blown it all up.
