Josh has lulls that we tend to forget as he starts to play his best down the stretch. In my own look at the All-22 (and I'm sure Marino talks about this in his paid service), I saw two things: Josh is spooked by INTs: Before last year, a lot of Josh Allen's INTs were on passes where he failed to see a trailing DB waiting to jump a route. He cleaned that up last year, and I thought this was behind him. But then he threw two of those very same INTs in back-to-back games (NO and NE), and he has hesitated to pull the trigger ever since. You saw this in the Atlanta game. Then, he threw another one of these in the second quarter of this game (the LB dropped it, but it hit him in the hands), and he started refusing to throw the ball down the field into any type of coverage. On the play that everyone keeps breaking down (the incompletion to Davis), the read appears to be a fake screen and then a shot downfield to Shavers. Shavers was sort of open and Josh starts to throw him the ball and decides against taking the risk. A confident Josh Allen guns that one in there, but he's not trusting what he's seeing. Josh needs to be given the leeway to make mistakes so that he can take some risks again. Josh isn't setting his feet and stepping into throws: I think this is related to the first point. He's coming to checkdowns so late in the play that he rushes the throws and doesn't set his feet. These tend to be upper-body throws where he whips his torso around and is almost falling away from the target. These throws often go wide for obvious reasons. I think some of this is that he doesn't trust his receivers. We need to make a trade and get Palmer back and Kincaid fully healthy. Finally, I don't think any of us would be having this conversation if Moore and/or Shakir could get a second foot in-bounds. It's not college, boys! Drag that trailing foot! He looked very off in the first half but very different in the second half and looked much more like his normal self making several patented Allen plays and throws. 1 Quote

He's definitely is spooked by the INTs. He isn't playing with that swag and has no confidence throwing the ball. He has to snap out of it. INT's will happen but if you score enough they can be overcome. Look at Mahomes last night, 2 first half picks and he didn't get down on himself, he got angry and kept throwing. 2 1 Quote

I just went and watched a few plays from the 3rd, and you're correct. He started to click on some throws there. One on a bootleg to Keon and another when he steps up and hits Hawes on 3-7 in the RZ. I think this didn't leave the impression that it could have because the Bills pulled Josh for the entire 4th. Quote

Even the TD pass to Shakir I don't think we realize what an elite throw that was...essentially he "told" Shakir to turn towards the sideline by where he put that ball on his outside shoulder because he saw the defender coming from the inside. So instead of spinning into the defender, Shakir spun away from the defender, up the sideline and to the house...in part because Allen made an elite, perfect throw on the play after diagnosing the situation properly. BillsSbSoon Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Idk, there’s something going on. But how about the fact we have no downfield passing game and we turned one of the most talented gunslingers in nfl history into a game manager while he’s still in his 20s?? Imagine doing that to Favre or elway in their primes 1 1 2 Quote

Agreed. Low volume makes normal passing game miscues stick out more. He will miss a few than make 10 in a row. Gotta just be happy with a historic rushing day by Cook. It’s like saying Cook didnt run enough if Allen threw for 500 yards. Brady wants a balanced attack so he can hammer a mismatch or tactical advantage. He was the OC vs the Rams, Ravens and Lions. If they can attack outside, inside, down the field, over the middle, or underneath they will. 1 Quote

BananaB Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago (edited) This is kind of a yearly thing. Always looks like at some point he doesn’t trust WRs. 4 years in a row heading into November with WR issues. Edited 14 hours ago by BananaB Quote

Gabe Davis is fairly underrated at "adlib" get him out there Right on! Keon legit runs into defenders too. Its awful. I just watched a huge breakdown on him last night - wanna say like ten separate plays dialed in on him. Its so bad they aren’t even looking his way. 1 Quote
hondo in seattle Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago What's wrong with Josh? 1. Subpar receiving corps 2. Subpar downfield passing scheme 3 Quote
somnus00 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Wasn't this how Josh was in the weeks leading up to Dorsey getting canned? He'll do his 5 step drop. His reads aren't open, he bails early on the pocket. Then he looks dejected and helpless on the sidelines. Is Brady not running plays where the routes match the qb drop? Are the wrs not where they need to be? Or is it Josh? Probably a combination of all. But it's still on Brady to get this working. 1 Quote
Figster Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago When the whole league figures out how to stop the type plays an OC is scheming and play calling the Offense itself becomes the problem. League figured out Daboll, Dorsey just sucked and now the league has figured out how to stop Joe Brady. They just can't stop James Cook... Quote

VW82 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) So...just as a reminder wrt Panthers game... 1. Josh was essentially blaming himself in the post game presser for passing game struggles. 2. Bills media guys doing all 22 are pinning a lot of the struggles on Josh. I get everyone wants to blame the receivers, and they definitely deserve blame for what we've seen this year, but it's time for some on this forum to admit Josh has been subpar in a lot of these games. He needs to be better for this team. Edited 11 hours ago by VW82 1 1 Quote

Why is his snap count so high ? Cant be just because the coaches want him to block on run plays. The Keon saga is baffling. 4 Quote

Imagine doing that to Favre or elway in their primes I agree our passing game needs work, but I would point out Elway won his Lombardis when he was less a gun slinger and had a balanced offense with a strong running game. And as good as Favre was one could argue his gun slinger habits cost his teams shots at championships at times. Quote

Keon is the least professional Bills DNA player in the locker room imo. He’s young, so there’s time for maturity to kick in. But with all of the love and support and experience and success in the locker room I’m surprised that Keon hasn’t grown up by now. I thought playing time was earned. Landon will tell you that. Why does McD reward Keon with playing time when he’s not doing well on or off the field? And to give Keon the most minutes is confounding. It has to be for his blocking.
