Update: Dorian Strong to IR

Neck and IR, is never good. Let's hope it's out of an abundance of caution. 

 

In a perfect world Hairston's rehab starts to ramp up, and he returns to practice after the bye.

As it is, we've had to sign 2 Practice Squad players for players IR'ed from the 53 at the start of the season. Even if (God willing) we don't have any more IR'ed players over the next two weeks, it's already pretty simple to just move Franklin, Ciarlo, and Ingram off for Hairston, Hoecht, and Ogunjobi.

 

Agree easily on Ciarlo, and Ingram, Franklin is a bit tougher due to his ST contribution. I think Codington may go first before Franklin.  Or if you're going to keep Codington for his return role, then do you need Samuel and could you trade him?

Didn't Benford end up on IR his rookie year?  This is all eerily similar to the year we drafted Benford and Elam.

He must have REALLY showed something in practice to bypass a call up and leapfrog all the way to the active roster. Wouldn’t be shocked to see some snaps.

While missing out on Strong kinda sucks, it does clear the path for Max to get to see snaps when he gets back. I want him to play as much as possible before the playoffs and have him ramped up completely. He can be a difference maker if fully up to speed.

Benford only gets injured because Rapp is a moron and is super reckless when he tackles. Other than that, he’s he’s very dependable. I’ll give you Tre though. Hopefully Hairston comes back soon.

For his career Benford missed all the 2022 playoffs (and half the season), most of one game and all of the next in the 2023 playoffs, and then played 2 playoff games and missed most of the 3rd last year.  So of the playoff games we've played since drafting Benford he's been available less than half the time.  Sadly we probably have a number of players in much the same boat.

The positive is it’s early in the year and all APPEAR to be short term.  It could be a blessing in disguise, there are a lot of young guys getting meaningful experience against a softer early schedule.  You don’t need to peak in October, so maybe, just for once, the injuries won’t haunt the team at the end of the year as it has been seemingly every darn time they have a legitimate chance to make a SB.  This year, if anything, the Bills look to be favorites from the AFC to make it, which is a bit of a change and let’s hope they roll in at full strength and break the curse, sending the Ralph out in the best possible way.

I think just about the whole defense is in a similar boat, if they didn’t miss the games they were severely limited or went out during key stretches.  It’s been really rough.

I don’t know, Williams hasn’t been very good and they called him up, not a move up for a game, this smells like something a little bigger.  I don’t know if we WANT him on the field, but if he’s earned a spot from practice and what he showed in preseason, then let it rip.  He looked great out there in preseason playing kind of a S/LB role.   Maybe he can help on 3rd downs at least.

His play doesn’t warrant any thing close to pro bowl consideration . That’s exactly my point. As the 54th overall pick in his draft class the hope was that he’d be more of a force on the edge - a defender that opposing offenses would need to account for.  But he’s not that guy.  He’s serviceable. Adequate. Not a liability. Makes some plays. Hooray!
