Josh is all over my TV in commercials, but I never see Lamar.

My guess is Josh has agents to get him endorsements, while Lamar, who won't even hire an agent for his contract is losing money by his stubbornness on not having an agent or multiple agents.

He is pretty quiet and I would guess doesn't enjoy doing it much. The ones I have e seen of him, he isn't talking at all, or at least not much.

If you met the two, which one would you give the endorsement? It's a not a knock on Lamar, nobody in the NFL is beating Josh. His image is flawless, he's a good looking dude, articulate, and easy for normal people to relate with.

He tried branding number 8 as a personal contact that tells me he wants his own money.

He's not an articulate speaker...

He is mooshmouth. Same reason that some people advertise more than others. Mahomes is a very clear speaker, for example.

He tried branding the image likeness of his #8. Not the actual number.

He saved almost 8M dollars in not having an agent FWIW.  Perhaps he wasn't interested in endorsements.

Lamar's look and sound and personality all is classic American Black subculture, and Josh is classic white suburban mainstream culture. The majority of the viewers are white mainstream, so Josh is the guy the advertisers want.  Gatorade and Oakley actually are going for the cool, subculture, athlete image (which sells to the subculture and also to the young male cool-jock wannabes), so Lamar is great for them.

Is this really a thread topic?

Playing sports and performing on commercials are two completely different skill sets. Some things translate but others just do not. Like most things in life; it’s simply not that complicated.
