He played well with Matt Nagy calling plays in Chicago and struggled with Matt Canada calling plays in Pittsburgh. Their offensive line in Pittsburgh was also atrocious.

Feeling just fine about him behind our O-Line with Joe Brady calling plays.

Not what I meant, Josh is very much on the record about what he wants out of the QB room.

Yup. As a second stringer, Trubisky is above average. When you look at other teams' backups, you see why. There really aren't even 32 starting-caliber QBs in the league as it is.

I'm hoping White and Buechelle are cut and the Bills scour the wire at cutdown time for a young QB for the practice squad.

I would keep Mitch. I actually feel like if he had to start a few games mid season that Brady could craft a gameplan that he could Trubisky could run successfully.

Regardless of Mitch having a winning record as a starter, he is no longer the same guy who had some mild success in Chicago. He's been terrible for the past 4 seasons, just not even a good backup anymore. Our offense would be bottom-5 in the league with him starting.

I doubt Bagent would even be available, but he'd be a huge upgrade IMO.

The Bills backup QBs are there to support Josh and help him be the most prepared that he can be each week. If they have to play, we are most likely cooked anyway.

Totally agree. plus anybody we bring in would not know the playbook and would take time to get chemistry with the receivers.

... but it would be possible to cut one and bring in someone else for the PS

Too late to wipe the slate clean. There’s no way we can bring in a new guy (guys) and learn the system and nuances of the receivers. Is every QB other than Josh worth a crap? Hell no! But the time to clean it all out has passed.

Yeah cut them and don’t even bother backfilling the position. Just use the extra roster spot on an oft-injured defensive back. Have Knox or whoever fill in at QB if Allen goes down. The season would be over at that point anyways.

After watching the game, it appears Trubisky and White dont know the system.

I’m surprised more can’t see this. Not exactly science either. He was playing for his career when he was playing .500 ball. At this point does anybody think Mitch is doing anything other than working with Josh in the QB room? Which is fine if that’s the case, so long as Allen doesn’t get hurt. Which is very unlikely with his history, but ya, we have no viable alternative. Everybody eats only works with 17 doing the cooking. Otherwise it’s pedestrian talent with a guy that can’t cook.

I think he's regressed since posting those numbers. Most of which occurred earlier in his career. The two years he left and started a few games for Pittsburgh he was 2-5 and had more INT's than TD's. He's hot trash at this point. I don't even think we have a a guy that can keep us a float for 4-5 weeks if necessary.

He was very very bad the time he started in Pittsburgh.  Mitch is actually a good athlete with a decent arm for a QB.  He can do SOME of things like Josh can out of sequence.  But he mostly checks the ball down or scrambles for a few yards.  You don’t see many big time throws.  I know it was frustrating for Steeler fans

In the game against NYG I thought he did a better job pushing the ball downfield than he had in the past

Waste of time imo, there is no backup qb good enough to carry this roster to a SB.  Allen goes down and we are cooked.  Shouldn't be that way but it is what it is.

Buffalo can't find a competent backup who is also a good support to Allen?

Allen has a multi year relationship with Trubiniski and clearly they communicate well.  That does not grow on trees.

There are much bigger issues on the other side of the ball that they need to focus on.  If JA ever gets hurt, we're toast regardless who our backup QB is.  Our defense won't be able to hold anyone under 30 pts by the looks of it.  Could be a long year if our defensive guru of a head coach can't get this defense fixed.

We are cooked for a season ender, but if it’s a 2-3 game absence by Allen,  the QB2 has to win a game or two.

At the moment i would only keep Trubisky mainly because he knows the entire offense and has experience. I would just implore him to take what’s there and not screw up. Just move the team forwards , not backwards! I’d definitely check out some other teams cuts. Mike White stinks. He was lousy for the Jets after his 1 game of prominence and he was lousy for Miami even in preseason games. Mike should be released.

Pittsburghs OC at the time was Matt Canada, who was so bad he hasn’t even gotten another coaching job since then. Also, he was taking over for Big Ben and expectations were unrealistic.

Every QB under Tomlin has sucked except for Rothlisberger

Absolutely, if a decent one becomes available.

Pickett or somebody like that would at least give you a chance to win a game if Josh was out. I don't have any confidence either of the guys we have could do that. I fear our offense would look like yesterday's preseason game.

Pickett or somebody like him makes Trubisky look like a Pro Bowler.

Should have drafted someone. We should draft someone who can run.....

We should keep eye on Snoope Huntley.

The only team that should be keeping an eye on Huntley is the Albany Firebirds indoor team that just lost their starting QB to the UFL.

Jake Browning (Cinci) shows you what an actual competent backup looks like.  Plays with 2nd and 3rd stringers, no problem.
