He did not play well in the final regular season game against Patriots last year...he has been so-so in TC and horrible in pre-season.  I think he gets cut

Far superior? If Mitch is better it’s marginal. I think they both suck and the team needs to make a real attempt at finding a legitimate backup QB. Josh needs his Frank Reich v2.0

It’s not only about making the preseason watchable, but also about being fair to the pass catchers who are trying to get evaluated. Bad QB play affects the OL and the WRs/TEs.

I know the Bears were playing with eleven….but wouldn’t All 22 imply that the Bills had eleven out there as well. Could’ve fooled me!

Now I’m not saying that there aren’t concerns some guys were out of position but like what I and a couple others have said, the Bills were playing 2/3s vs the Bears ones (with a few exceptions and then they were playing their 3/4s vs the Bears twos. The Bills never even gave themselves a shot at a fair fight. This was clearly a game for the Bills to establish their depth chart, to make final decisions on their last 3-5 roster spots, and who they feel is worthy of keeping around on their PS. 
 

It’s also not a true picture of a player in a game scenario either for the regular season. As an example let’s bring up Joe Andreessen. I think we’d all agree he looked realllyyyyy bad last night and he did. I think we can also agree that this was the first time that Andreessen looked completely out of his depth. Well why would that be? Did he have a really bad night? I mean that’s possible for sure. Could it also be that he didn’t have Matt Milano next to him and Ed Oliver/Greg Rousseau in front of him and  a healthy secondary behind him I think that’s a more likely scenario

Tough matchup for a young player against a PA heavy offense.  He failed his test - but its also a glorified bad practice.  It's not like any film study went into it.  I'm not going to just assume he can't play based off of a bad game.

Hancock with mistakes looks better than Hamlin. We may need to bring in another S. Hamlin as a starter is bad. I think the most we should offer Hamlin is a PS spot. But McD likes him. Bishop isn't there yet. Plus, he's better at strong safety than free. 

 

Moore needs to get some time with Josh throwing the ball. And we know Samuel won't make a full season. But I think Shavers makes the roster this year. So maybe Samuel to IR. Gore gets to the PS I hope.

True, but in all fairness:

1. Both the DTs were double-teamed off the snap, and
2. That was Zion Logue and Casey Rogers (?), neither of whom should make the team or should ever see snaps for this team in a game that counts.

Oh I knew it was Rogers and Logue haha  I’m just highlighting how bad both were despite a good play by Hancock

Which is even more discouraging that our 3’s we’re getting punched by the Bears 3’s!

Shavers has developed a great release which has shown up in preseason. I did notice a couple reps yesterday where it looked like the QB was expecting him to be hot off a blitz but Shavers never turned around. Hard to know for sure if it's his fault without knowing the play call and reads but worth keeping an eye on.

Yeah Hancock wasn't as good as I thought watching it live. Always tough to judge secondary play on the broadcast. There were a few plays where it looked like he covered the wrong part of the field. He was at least partly responsible for the TD thrown in the corner of the endzone too, he didn't get enough depth which left an easy throwing window.

 

If one of our safeties gets injured Hamlin will definitely be the next man in, fans won't like it but Hancock won't get on the field until he gets his responsibilities down pat and cleans up the coverage busts.

 

My biggest takeaway from this preseason so far is that as much I appreciated Hyde and Poyer, I didn't appreciate them enough. Nothing we put on the field this year will come close to matching their ability as a tandem, and we'll just have to live with that.

Well... If there is any good news, Rapp is among the best tackling Safeties in the NFL when he's on the field. Just has to actually be on the field.

It’s exactly this completely irrational dislike of Hamlin that I don’t get.  No matter how bad anyone else played… it doesn’t seem to matter.  Hell, If we’re stuck just playing 10 guys on defense… it’s all good just cut Hamlin.  ??? I don’t get it!!  
 

He started every game last year and we made it to the championship game… now.  He can’t even tie his shoes, he’s so bad.

He started because we did do enough to find better. He is a borderline backup. He is not a total liability like Elam was. But opposing QB's look to see which side of the field he's covering.

I feel much better about the game after listening to Joe Marino.  Bills DBs, who never played together, were rotating, and some were out of position, making it easy for Caleb.  He said film will show who was out of position, and it will be a great teaching lesson.
