Agree for the most part.  I don't like Mike White (despite today looking ok).  I'd rather Buechele get more of a shot for 3rd string.  He looked ok, the snap was not his fault.  He made some good throws not shown on NFLN.

Thought Strong had a good game overall. I looked up late and didn’t see what happened on the TD infront of him. But there was a few plays where he corrected another defender and communicated well when passing off a receiver. The giants 2 pt conversion he peeled off his receiver to cover another that was crossing and would have been wide open. Good to see a rookie comfortable and smart enough to do that.

not that ***** again.  Its preseason.  But Bills sucked ass on 3rd down, especially 3rd and long last season.

WTH on Jackson?  Didn't we scout the hell outta him?

This defensive coaching, philosophy and scheme has been the issue since 2018 and it’s just never going to change. We keep looking at every other thing but the problem from that day is the problem that will keep us from a Super Bowl. I don’t need McDermott gone but I need his defense gone. If those 2 can’t be separated then the both can walk. It’s preseason…I’m not saying this because of preseason. I’m just saying new year, same thing

Your assessment is spot on.

Can't even get sacks in a preseason game. Still can't get off the field on 3rd down.

I know it's preseason, but I'm just more interested in bolstering the offense at this point. McDermott's D will never be great.

It's almost like that has been a theme for 5 years ..

Hopefully new additions like Bosa and Sanders will get us a damn pass rush!

McDermott’s D consistently relies on a four man rush with limited stunts. The problem is our DL consistently struggles to win one on one. Far too often they get stonewalled.

I hate to say it but Tre White is a big arrow down. I'm rooting for him but today's performance made me revert to my original thought that he is unfortunately just washed. He cannot be trusted to cover quick WRs 1v1. Giants picked on him repeatedly.

Not that Dane Jackson was any better. I hope Hairston gets back healthy soon and can figure things out quickly because I fear CB2 will be a major weakness for us this year unless he saves the day.

As others have mentioned the primary DL players impressed me, most notably Bosa, Walker, and Sanders. Bosa's potential in this defense if he can stay healthy is tantalizing. He's flown under the radar but today showed flashes of his old self and at his best he was an elite EDGE. We may have gotten a steal there. Knock on wood.

I thought White was ok. All the passes on him were on plays in the short area in front of him. He didn't get beat over the top and was a willing tackler. Something he really wasn't in his first sting here. I think if he can keep plays in front of him and be physical, he will do ok.

I'm actually expecting some changes this year in that regard. Which is why I'm really not fretting over the drive results or the 3rd down conversion percentage from this game. The coaching additions we made this year combined with some of the training camp reports heavily imply that we'll be moving to more 5 man fronts and run more stunts. Today we saw none of that but I'm sure that's intentional - no reason to put new schematic wrinkles on tape in August.

Exactly 💯 it's infuriating,  just a re occurring nightmare

I appreciate the effort Beane made bringing in a ton of new DL

High on Jackson and Hoecht as well

Would like to see more out of 91

A lot of people seem down on the DL due to backups not doing much, but I was very encouraged.  Landon Jackson was a letdown and DeWayne Carter didn’t flash at all, but….

Solomon looks like a legit rotational DE to pair with Epenesa.  We get Hoecht come Week 7 and Bosa/Rousseau could be a menacing tandem.  Bosa looked every bit like the guy we’ve been searching for opposite Groot.

Jones/Oliver should be a strong DT tandem, Ogunjobi back Week 7, and we may have just found ourselves two stud interior pass rushers with Deone Walker and TJ Sanders.   Sanders flashed quite a bit and Walker showed why he was a RD1 Pick before the back issues.

Run Defense might still be boom or bust on any given play but the pass rush from our Top 8 (10 once everyone is back) could be very, very strong.
