Hey Jealousy ..hey jealousy...

Well, tell me do you think it'd be alright...

If I could just crash here tonight...

Recently went down a 90s songs podcast rabbit hole. Really interesting/sad story behind the Gin Blossoms and Doug Hopkins who wrote their hits, but left the band (alcoholism) before they hit it big, and then drank himself to death at 32 with the regret.

(For anyone interested, podcast is "60 Songs the Explain the 90s". Host can be annoying sometimes, but there are some really interesting episodes. I highly recommend the Third Eye Blind/Semi Charmed Life episode to start)

Which team is in that situation?

So you mean giving Cook a huge contract won’t cost us one or more starters when some contracts expire after this season?

First off, you dodged my question: Which team is in that situation?

Secondly, to answer your question... not unless you can give me specific examples. Between the ever increasing cap (skyrocketing by over $25M each year with streaming revenue), having most guys locked up already, and some bad contracts cycling out, and cheap rookie replacements, there shouldnt be much worry about being able to retain pretty much everyone.

We have our franchise QB locked up, our 2 tackles locked up, we dont have any big WRs who will command big money. A lot of rookies on D and most of our D stars locked up. No one coming up will command huge money.

We're set to pay Knox $17M next year, obviously that cant happen. We pay Samuel $8M to be WR4 role player. I'd rather have Cook and his contributions than both of them combined.

Who are you worried about specifically? Can't just have this "boogie man" argument.

Also, the Bills just re-signed a bunch of guys this offseason-Rousseau, Shakir, Benford, etc so how do we know those guys won’t cost the Bills any starters? Why is it only Cook whose contract will make it so the team can’t sign any other guys?

Somehow going from $11M to $15M will cripple the entire franchise.

I dont think we should or will go to $15M, but cripes...

Especially when you consider all the money flushed down the toilet just paying Stefon Diggs to simply go away…

I get not wanting to overpay the guy, but as you pointed out, going a mil or two over isn’t the end of the world. It certainly isn’t as bad as taking a dead cap hit of $31million, and even then still ending up few bad calls and a Kincaid drop away from the Super Bowl.

The most valued ability is availability. What sets Rousseau, Shakir, Benford, etc apart from Cook?  They have proven to be TEAM players. Remember, there is no "I" in TEAM.  Cook is showing himself to be an "it's all about me" guy. Kind of like Diggs. Oh it is all sunshine and lollypops for a while but What About Me always rears it's ugly head sooner or later and it is "all about me" time again.

The problem with the NFL is that it is NOT Madden Football. In Madden you don't ever have to deal with "hissy fits" or "hold outs/ins", etc.

REAL PEOPLE!  Case in point Marshawn Lynch. Real good player BUT he was not going to be that person in Buffalo.

There is an I in both:

-Win

-Championship (two, in fact)

Football may be a team sport but sometimes it takes that 1 player to move the needle from pretender to contender. Look at the impact Barkley made with the Eagles.

It certainly would.

What hissy fit? What game has he missed? He hasnt even technically missed a practice.

Letting Lynch go was another mistake in Bills history.

They were all paid before they had to consider a hold out / in?

They all gave Bills hometown discounts to play for Buffalo.  Ty did too

I’d offer Cook a touch above the Williams deal and if he balks, run him into the ground this year. All the leverage is with Beane and the Bills. If Cook holds out, he loses money and doesn’t show what he can do on the field again. If he wants to risk playing this year without an extension then give him 75% of the snaps. If he balls out, good for him. We always hav the franchise tag but I doubt Beane would ever use it on a RB because of the hard cap implications.
