Ha! Maybe it was the same. Rochester?

I actually don’t even remember the teacher’s name.

I went to school in fairport, his name was Mr Thering. He also walked around with his lightning wand of knowledge haha

It’s funny my Chemistry teacher in high school was really the first person in my life to really sort of nudge me along.   She thought I could do better than getting a C in her class.

All these years later I remember next to none of her actual lessons.  But I still think of her when I need that extra push.

She seemed really tough at the time but now looking back not so much.  I still think of her when I might need that kind of kick in the backside at times.

An interesting thread idea would be have you had any really memorable teachers, good or bad, and why?

Just planting a seed I don’t think I’ve seen before. I have a few in mind, and some teachers in the family. What an amazing way to touch a lot of lives.

As you may have realized, I prefer to at least give the bright side a chance. Let’s give due to those who have earned it.

….and crap on the rest.  :)

Oh, I kid, mostly.

I deal with positive & negative numbers all shift when it comes to water elevations.  I NEVER say: "minus"... Always: "negative."  I guess I learned that in Math Class somewhere along the way.

It drives me wild like a math teacher when people say the lower pool, canal elevation is MINUS 2.56... NO! It's NEGATIVE 2.56.  OR we could just all talk in positive numbers and say: 576.92 (feet above sea level).😏

Minus represents an operation,  negative is a number.

I guess my math teacher is proud somewhere knowing I am calling numbers by their proper name, even adding & subtracting (minusing😏) them the correct way!

One of my favorite asks of college students (or grads) is to tell me about one of their professors. Could be a good one, bad one, unusual one....whichever one stood out for whatever reason.

same teacher! Isn’t it something that we both remember that same saying? Probably thousands of us out there who have that ingrained in their brains!

Yeah, my high school had a strange tradition among the male athletes that we would walk around with our sneakers untied.  I never grew out of that.

I've had enough people over the years tell me my shoes were untied but I've never tripped from it.

I bring it up because I was at a KC Royals game a week ago, talking to friends on the concourse by our seats.  An attractive hispanic woman in her early 20's was sitting in front of us and said, "sir, can I tie your shoe"?  I chuckled and was just getting out "no, I'm fine", she was out of her seat, bent down in front of me and tied my shoe.  Then smiled and sat back down.

I told one of my friends "that's how I meet women".  He said, "I'll have to remember that one."  I said, "don't bother. Its the first time it happened in over 35 years. It doesn't work really well."

Multiple choice question.

An attractive woman in her 20s approaches a Royals fan with untied shoes whose screen name indicates the last days of his early 20s were when Lawrence Welk was rocking Sunday night TV.  She engages him in conversation and persists despite his reluctance.

The woman was:

A. Attracted to this man because of his good taste in baseball and attire.

B. High

C. A gold digger

D. A hooker

E. Both B and D

A squared + B squared = D squared. Still use it to this day.

But my home addition hasn’t passed code yet. Weird.

You did not need to post this to prove that you have limited intellectual capacity.  :)

1975, Freshman year in college, someone asked the philosophy professor if he required papers to be typed. His answer stuck with me. Said you're in college now. For the rest of your life everything you do has your name on it. My expectation is that you're proud of your work. So no, I do not require papers to be typed. I simply expect that they will be.

Attractive people still get treated better. To quote Bowling for Soup, High school never ends!!!!

This is a truth... have seen it hundreds of times.

What I've retained... share whatever you have with friends, it always pays off... even decades later.
