True of course. I also said for years the Boston Bruins wouldn't make the playoffs. It happened!! 18 years later.

That's probably right, except the 3rd down back part.  His blitz pickup is equivalent to underwear vs a fart.

That may be. But again, there is likely other teams that will take less pass protection from the RB position for another playmaker on the field.

This idea that you absolutely can't have him on the field on 3rd Downs bc that's what the Bills do isn't accurate. Not every team stresses as much on blocking players as we do. Not every team runs the same offensive scheme.

Also, I don't think not being a good pass blocker is an equivalent to being 31 going on 32 with recurring foot issues when it comes to negatively effecting money. The latter definitely outweighs the former.

Let me ask a question to answer yours. If one of them were to be deleted from the roster prior to the draft, who would it be?

Imo, Cook.

I'm not understanding your point. Deleted? You mean a choice between?

Before or after the draft... ???? Can you explain why you're introducing that variable?

Plain and simple, for the same contract that Shakir just got I would rather have Cook.

Does that answer your question?

What am I missing?

He took one and then punished the Bills for 15 years.

Cook's "asking price" has been 20m so not sure how it can "go up" from this. It doesn't change my expectations on what his deal ends up being.

Is that Cook's asking price? Just bc his brother shot out a tweet doesn't make that his official price. He knows and James knows, he's probably not getting that. But throw out 20 and 15 looks like a compromise.

Smart teams pay for future performance, not past performance, imo.

Before last here, here's the previous 10 Super Bowl winner's leading RB that season and their cap hit that season.

Isiah Pacheco (2023 Chiefs) - $889k

Isiah Pacheco (2022 Chiefs) -$725K

Sony Michel (2021 Rams) -$1.7M

Ronald Jones (2020 Buccaneers) -$1.9M

Damien Williams (2019 Chiefs) $1.7M

Sony Michel (2018 Patriots) -$1.8M

LeGarrette Blount (2017 Eagles) -$1.3M

LeGarrette Blount (2016 Patriots) -$1.0M

Ronnie Hillman (2015 Broncos) -$943K

Jonas Gray (2014 Patriots) - $273K

Barkley was the outlier.  Causation doesn't equal correlation but it's hard to deny this trend when it comes to thinking of paying a RB a top of the market contract.  It's just smarter to spend money on other premium positions.

Beane missed his opportunity.

He could have signed Cook for a bargain 15M a year.

But because he waited too long, the price has gone up to 20M a year.

3 years 40M guaranteed, Bills can get out on the 3rd year.

There are a couple RB's I can remember being truly productive into their 30's. John Riggins had 1,300+ and 24 TD's at 34, then 1,200+ and 14 TD's at 35 toting the rock. Walter Payton killed it from his age 30 to 33 seasons, going for 5,889 yds and 34 TD's rushing. If Barry Sanders had played another 5 seasons (truthfully, just another 3), I have no doubt he would be the NFL's all time leading rusher. Players like Henry are a rare breed. But, all it takes is one injury at this stage and he's likely done. An ACL, an achilles, a hip labral tear, any of these could spell the end.

No, Brady took a few hits but whined about people being near him for a very long time. He learned to get the ball out fast, even if it was in the dirt by somebody’s feet.

Can you think of any superstar, sure fire Hall of Famer, who has conducted himself better than Derrick Henry?  He can be grouped with the other high character, work their kiesters off, super rare Super Stars--Jerry Rice, another, comes to mind, and Tom Brady.

I never heard him say a disparaging word about a teammate or coach--on any team.  (I don't follow him closely, so hopefully not way off here..)

Seems to be the definition of integrity.

Great for him, and the Ravens, the beneficiary now, for doing this with a running back who is 31 years old.  How confident they must be in him,

Certainly, the Ravens are taking a chance, but Henry hasn't hit the (career) wall yet.  They might get three more years of solid production out of him.  I hope not, but you never know.

ultimately the eagles won by overspending the cap at an unholy level.

I’d be fine with it but we’d be well served to acknowledge they amortized on wild levels so they could have playmakers everywhere instead of rationing.

My point was that, imo, Shakir is more valuable than Cook.

Just a hypothetical - If, prior to the draft, there was a a choice between keeping only one of the two, who would you have chosen. We clearly disagreed on our choice. My rationale is that WR will have more of an impact than a RB like Cook.

That may be the case,  if it is,  I'm not happy with spending a 2nd round pick on a player that you only expect to have around for 4 seasons.  Not good value.

Been saying that more and more on here over the last month--they could get still Cook at a bargain price, with a very guaranteed contract, with at least one of the years 15 million. But that won't be the case if they wait until next year.

And what you say above may easily come to fruition next off season, as who does not expect Cook to have a monster year?  1200+yards rushing? 4-500 receiving? 12+ touchdowns, easily-?

Now, Brandon, now., get it done...

They are going to save a boat load on defense in the coming years if they were even moderately successful in this draft. Beane and McDermott know this now; it should help them to get this done.

So, now. Before they get to camp.

No way do the Bills want this albatross hanging over their heads this season, one of such promise. It would be a huge violation of their processes and culture, if they don't do the right thing by Cook.

The cap hit with Barkley was only $3.8m too last year just looking it up.  I'm even more of a never pay Cook guy now.

My man.  He's only a RB.  It's not like we're dealing with a Trey Hendrickson like contract dispute.

posted again but still wrong.  Only Rodgers has (barely) more sacks than Brady.  As for total hits, it’s Brady by a mile.

it’s encoded in his WR draft gene..
