Poyer on GMFB - 5/14

Every person complaining about Poyer being dirty better say the same things about Rapp.  They play at the same level of "dirty" or "cheap" (I don't have a problem with that type of play, but I do understand player safety has changed).  Rapp just hasn't lost a step just yet.

Yes, plenty of us were calling for Rapp to be replaced when he was killing us with friendly fire a couple seasons ago. He seems to have gotten it under control after the 2023 Chargers game where he took out 2 of our own players.

 

The fans of other teams are free to complain about him as well.

 

 

I'd say MOST Safeties play a bit dirty. It's inherent in the position where you are the last line of defense and either you make a hit or the guy goes all the way, plus they usually have the most runway for a full head of steam.

I mean i don't think rapp is specifically headhunting anyone.  There's a fine line/edge to it, and both players waffle over that edge from time to time.

Across the entire NFL, it's just bad and lazy technique. Guys trying to show they can knock a guy over with barely trying. "I'm so strong I can just throw a shoulder into him and put him down".

 

What they are really doing is being lazy and frankly playing scared of injuring their shoulder. But if they used proper technique, no one would get hurt and the hits would still look big (likely even bigger).

Sounds crazy but ill cut Hamlin right now and bring Poyer on a vet minimum if he wants a fairy tale ending

What about the Rammies game last year?  I guess he only took out Damar and himself.

Ehhh if he would take a year long version of what they did with Hyde last year... give him a minimum contract and put him on the practice squad to teach the new/young guys how to play safety in this system. And if he can accept the only way he sees the field is "Oh my God our top seven safeties were car pooling and the van crashed!"... then sure, ok.

Give him a 1 day contract, let him retire and offer him some sort of 'coaching' position imo..
