He'd immediately be no worse than the 2nd best WR on the team. However due to investment, he'd probably slot back in as the 4th. Unfortunately the Samuel cap situation makes it hard to dump him, but he'd be a massive upgrade there.

I'd expect Davis to get a shot as a #2 on a needy team.

It is true (not sure of the percentage) that Allen would force a lot of throws to Gabe and according to PFR he had about 6 picks a year throwing to Davis.  The difference now would be that we are more focused on taking the profit most plays and moving the chains.  Allen didn't have that option for several years after Beasley left.

Honestly I saw that as more of a blown coverage by the Chiefs who were scrambling late and ended up with a slot corner in outside leverage when he should have been inside. That was more about the OC and Allen's recognition than it was about Davis, imo.

Not disagreeing but Mack Hollins got paid like an elite role player by the Pats (and even the Bills paid a slight premium for him in 2024 about 3ish million IRC) so the Bills would comparatively be "kicking the tires" on Gabe on a vet minimum and brining him into camp where he can show what he has left and at worst they cut him and maybe have him on the PS or on "retainer" if injuries hit. Given that teams have 9-10 WR's or more on the 90 man roster in camp having Gabe on one backend spot seems like a decent idea?

The bills O set records last year by playing the analytics and only fielding receivers with good catch percentages. Gabe and his 40 percent catch percentage are never seeing the field for Buffalo again.  The all time NFL record holder for TD receptions in a playoff game (4) has 6 total playoff TDs.

If this was before Moore, I would have said it was a no brainer. Gabe can stretch the field even if he’s limited. I could see him coming back but will they keep 6 WRs or is a move on the horizon? For example, do they trade Samuel or even Keon? I highly doubt Keon but that’s not impossible (especially if they question his work ethic). Samuel would be the logical choice to be dealt if they wanted Gabe back. I’m going to guess though that Gabe ends up somewhere else. Ravens maybe? Cardinals?

I think in one year that Hollins made more clutch plays than Davis did his entire time here.

He also made 100x fewer mistakes, imo.

Yea, Bech and Thornton are rookies. Bech is an inside/outside flex guy and Meyers is the same. Thornton is EXTREMELY raw and is a package player as a rookie to me. He runs two routes. 

 

They don't have a single serviceable true outside vet receiver.

I get the mistakes part I suppose. 
 

Theres a certain irony that the WR who probably has the most clutch WR game in franchise history is considered not clutch though.

 

I must have missed some Gabe Davis ire. I thought the idea of his return would not have been this poorly received.

100% Bring Gabe back if it makes sense.

 

Hes not a WR2, which is what Buffalo and Jax wanted him to be.

 

He is an elite blocker and good big body deep threat who would be our WR4/5. 
 

Palmer, Coleman and Shakir is the core, and after that we have oft-injured Samuel and newly signed Moore. 
 

Bring back Gabe and tell Moore that we carry 6 WR’s as long as he’s our punt returner. 
 

If Samuel manages to stay healthy all year, good problem to have.   If not, we still have a solid WR room.

There are 5 receivers that are locks on this roster and there is a large stable of guys battling for the 6th.  Only way I see Gabe on the Bills is on the practice squad.

Shakir is our starter in the slot.  Shakir goes in motion and ends up outside sometimes.  In this offense he's not going to replace a 6'2" 220lb X WR outside but he could take snaps out there.  He's roughly the same size as Diggs was but almost all his snaps are slot for us.  Moore will most likely do Shakir things and it's good to have him we need that.
