Technically possible but probably won't happen scenario where Bills lose out and still make playoffs

We all want the Bills to win out and hopefully take the division!  However, if for some reason they end up losing instead, these are the games to watch for the outcome because the Bills could still make the playoffs if these are the results:

Week 17

Colts beat Raiders - Raiders playing inspired football but doable
Titans beat Texans - Possible if Stroud is still out
Seahawks beat Steelers - Very possible
Chiefs beat Bengals - a likely KC bounce back against a flailing Cincy team

Week 18

Browns beat Bengals - Browns are hot!  Bengals are not
Colts beat Texans - another toss up
Ravens beat Steelers - as long as Ravens aren't resting starters

Broncos lose in week 17 or 18 (Chargers or Raiders) - No more Russell?  I'd count on at least one loss here

You know... in case you were wondering.

Go Bills!

Just did the NYT calculations.  If we lose out there still is anywhere from a 21-89% chance of making it depending on several outcomes.  Basically need Steelers, Texans and Bengals to lose 2x.

Let's just destroy NE and not think of all this....

We have a 6% chance of making the playoffs if we lose out.

If we lose our we don't deserve to make the playoffs.  Having said that, I would totally accept a Super Bowl victory if that crazy scenario played out.

Actually, they WOULD deserve to make the playoffs because that is how the playoff seeding works.

Playoff seeding =/= deserving.

A 7-9 team made the playoffs just a couple of years ago. They were not deserving. But it was how the playoff seeding works.

They absolutely deserved it. Did that make them a good team compared to other playoff teams? No.

Forget other playoff teams. There we’re multiple NON-playoff teams who had better records. If you feel a 7-9 team is deserving to make the playoffs when an 11-5 team and a 10-6 team and multiple 8-8 teams miss the playoffs, then perhaps we have very different ideas on deserving.

Your logic of ‘deserving’ is akin to a C- student deserving Valedictorian because they are graded on a curve that the A+ students were not.

If the Ravens beat the Dolphins this week, the Browns will rest their starters next week.  They will be locked into the 5 seed

Every game except Miami went our way last week.

All of them.

Just feels like something isn’t going our way this week.

My gut is telling me Bengals over Chiefs, and there is a good chance if the Steelers get out to an early lead they absolutely can beat Geno Smith.

As long as the Bills and Ravens win then it will be a great Sunday.

They are not locked into the 5 seed. They can still get the #1 overall seed for goodness sake.

Hopefully the Ravens do lock them in with a win over the Dolphins, but that is yet to be seen.

Is Cleveland locked in to the 5 seed??

If Miami loses, they could fall to a WC and in a tie with Cleveland who would be the 5 seed?

If they could fall to 6, then they have to beat the Bengals next week - which might turn out to be important for us if the Bengals beat the Chiefs.

Unless they don’t care about 5 or 6.  I don’t recall teams being good with potentially dropping down.

Cleveland is either winning the Division or the #5 seed.

Just a general comment:  You guys are driving yourself nuts with all the scenarios.

I keep thinking the week is over.

To clarify, if the Ravens beat the Dolphins, then the Browns will be locked into the 5 seed

Let me simplify this.

Say Baltimore beats Miami.

If the Bengals don’t beat the Chiefs - and we split our last 2.

We ain’t getting in unless we beat Miami.  Because the Bengals will be playing a Cleveland team with nothing to play for week 18.  They’ll rest everyone.

Does that sound like 97 percent to anyone?

If everything happens the way you said, Bengals win out and Ravens win, and the Bills lose to the Dolphins and beat NE...............................

70% chance to make the playoffs.

100% of the focus needs to be on beating the Pats.  We lost to them once and they are playing better with Zappe at QB, and they still have some good players on defense.  They went into Denver and won last week.  I still think the Bills will be ready and will take care of business.  I'm not going to drive myself crazy thinking about playoff scenarios until after Sunday's games.  Go Bills (and go Ravens).

Yea I can’t see Mahomes losing at home to Jake Browning a week after losing at home to Adrian McConnell…

The Bengals are well aware of the scenarios I just listed now.  This is THE game for them and I bet they’ll feel good about their chances to sneak in.

Thus giving them more to play for than the Chiefs.  Who will lock up the division and 3 seed next week.

Does a lot have to happen?  Absolutely.  But none of it is too far fetched at all.

The Chiefs still can lose the division.  Heck they can still miss the playoffs!  If either the Broncos or Raiders win Sunday...................

If BOTH Raiders and Broncos win (who play each other Week #18) the Chiefs lose the division with a lost to the Chargers in LA.

No one is taking games in Week #17 for granted.  Just sit back and enjoy the football action!
