Leslie Frazier has been in football longer than I have been alive. He’s halfway to 70 years old. Do you buy the “learning year”? Do you think he really believes that bailing on a coordinator position to do the NFL rounds as an unattached coach is the best path to a head coaching position? Maybe he’ll get hired as a head coach next season because of this accelerator program, but if Vegas had odds on it, it wouldn’t be pretty.

I don’t dispute your second point. Coaches are notorious for sleeping in offices and being around their players/assistants far more than their own family. But as to the bolded, what have I said that was stated as factual but wasn’t?

This.  It is your conclusion not what his reasons are.  Maybe you made it too general which makes it looks like an interpretation.  I am old (2 years less than Leslie) and used to be an editor (UB) & assistant to the editor (Courier Express) so I tend to look at what is fact and what is speculation more than others.

But what it shows overall is that he’s not stepping away from the game like he initially suggested.

As for why he’s visiting various teams during organized team activities (OTAs) and training camp, “It just gives me a chance to see things from a different perspective, get recharged again and reenergized,” Frazier said in the May 30 story. “And then in the fall, I will really begin to take a look at what’s happening around the league, make sure I stay up on any new trends, anything that’s changing.”

Quote

“Hopefully, an owner will give me a chance to talk to him about an opportunity,” the ’85 Bears legend said. “If that doesn’t happen, I’m good. I’ve had a good career. I’m good. My goal is to be a head coach. I know I don’t have much time left. I’m at an age where it seems like owners are going younger and younger, but I think I have some things I can bring to the table. We’ll see what happens.”

I called it the day after the season …

This was the best case scenario of how it went down

Ya I think McD got in Beanes ear and said enough is enough and that he has the confidence he can take this D to another level, with full control.  Which is hard considering how good they been but we all know they fell short in many big games

Even looking at Fraziers demeanor,  he rarely or never shows emotion or intensity and that showed through the years, even though they were a great unit.

McD will bring that intensity

Looking more and more like the Bills and Frazier tried to find a way of moving on while crafting a narrative that would be the least damaging to his future coaching prospects.

Who are they sparring him damage from though? lol his family?

Like other GMs are going to think he wasnt fired lol getting fired is hardly a death sentence anyway. Good coordinators get fired non stop.

Glad we did him classy I guess, seems like a good dude, loved in locker room, but a move that needed to be done. Ill be cheering for him elsewhere

His contract ended.  He was not fired.  The reason given was reason he was not coaching this year.

Yeah, Leslie didn’t “step away”.

He got shoved out.

You are not just relaying the news. You are acting like some reporters do who report something and then state what they think is going on as a fact.

He is taking a hiatus which is stepping away from coaching this year.  Coaching positions take a lot of hours which is why many players do not go into coaching post career.

I don’t think McD needs Beane’s permission.

Following the league’s annual head coach accelerator program. So much for spending time at home and taking the year off to assess.

Err, I think this proves exactly his point. He wanted to take time to do things that maximise his opportunity to be a Head Coach next year. He has done that by visiting three different teams, looking at how different staffs work and meeting three different ownership groups. He couldn't have done that if employed as the Bills DC.

Far from contradicting the reason he gave for leaving, it actually supports it.

Zero chance he gets a HC or DC job.

If he wants a DC job he will walk into one. I doubt he will ever be a HC again and it sounds like it is that or retirement.

Leslie Frazier is a good man and a good football coach.  I think he’s kidding himself about getting another shot as a HC but I respect him pursuing his dream.  I do believe he has coached his last game for the Bills.

I agree with this comment and wishing him the very best as he moves forward.  For the Bills at this point - it was addition by subtraction and it will be interesting to compare McD's results this season!

I think this is ridiculous.  He’s going to get a HC job by talking to other coaching staffs to see how staffs work?  His best (and only) chance to be a HC would be to coach this D to a SB imo.

Why step out of the league for a year at his age if is goal was  How would that get him a HC?  Talking to people?  🤷🏻‍♂️ doesn’t seem like a smart idea to me.

I agree that he’ll have another DC position next year (if that’s what he wants).  If he wanted a DC job….. he had one.  A great one with a loaded D and SB aspirations.

McD wanted to make changes to the D and call the plays.  Leslie would’ve taken a hit to his reputation (and his chances of becoming a HC) if that was announced.

I really can’t believe people think this was all Leslie’s decision.  Do you believe this was Leslie’s decision and that McD is only calling plays due to the timing of it all?

The writing was on the wall.  It was time for change.  McD wanted full control of the D.  He has it.
