Who is this Coy Wire dude and why do we think he has inside skinny?

Unless they started a bunch of tests at UC I’d be pretty surprised if they’ve finished everything they want to do in 1 day, especially with a guy who is reported to still be “very very tired” and they don’t want to over-tax

Coy Wire, former Buffalo Bill, still has inside connections with the org

So sounds like physically, Damar could probably play again. Mentally, probably not even if they were able to bulk up his chest padding so there was no chance of recurrence.

I think it will be 100% mental only at this phase for Hamlin. Kid seems strong to me and I have a feeling he will be back next training camp in a Bills Uniform.

Agreed - It's much easier said than done, but mindset could be "how likely is it for me to get struck by lightning again?"

I believe someone else may have posted this but the equipment lightening (shoulder pads, etc) in the NFL may have contributed to commotio cordis occurring for Damar. This is why this phenomenon has not occurred until now. Perhaps some equipment modification or use of flak jackets, etc. may prevent this from happening again.

If this is true, I'm shocked we haven't seen this happen in the NFL on other occasions. Unless there is some sort of perfect storm that has to occur for it to happen.

Lots of things being ruled out does not mean there could be some other condition that has not been discovered.  This is good news, hopefully he is 100% healthy and can even consider coming back to play but I would think there would always be a concern, what if...  I think Reggie Lewis had some DR's saying he should not continue and one gave him the all clear, that did not go well.

Lewis went shopping for a doc who would clear him despite multiple experts saying he should not play again due to a heart defect.  Would think that type of thing should not happen in this day and age.

You're crazy if you think Damar won't play in Sept.  He's a Dawg and might ask for a little protective layer around chest area.  Count on it....

There is a perfect storm.

The blow must occur at exactly the precise millisecond in the cardiac cycle, in exactly the correct place, with sufficient force.

It's why it's very rare even in sports where a hard blow to the chest is pretty common, as in Baseball

We know nothing of his mental state.  He could be itching to get back on the field.  I wouldn't completely rule out a return by the Super Bowl.

I don't think that he'll have his strength back up by that point, but I expect that if doctors determine that there is no congenital defect that contributed to this incident that he will be back for training camp.

With news that Damar has been discharged from the hospital, this is turning into a huge Bills news day.

Hyde practicing, Damar going home, TUA out for the game on Sunday.

What's next?  Have I won the lottery?

I'd be shocked if he isn't done for the season.  And maybe more going forward.  Without knowing the details, it's impossible to speculate.

I would think they could fashion a chest protector similar to what Josh wears without impeding his mobility or coverage speed.  The flak jacket hasn't slowed Josh down to any extent.

Maybe that would help our defense who can't or won't tackle?
