Big Blitz
I hope to God this gets bumped in September. Great. Good. Hope so. However here is why this is a looming disaster. They have all the fatal flaws championship teams do not. Not one. Not two. ALL OF THEM. They rely way too much on the long ball which is fine but.... They strikeout too much. They are God awful against great pitching. They are slow. They are injury prone. They have 1 reliable starter. They are terrible in the infield. They make lazy stupid plays on the bases and on defense. Sanchez is a liability behind the plate. They don't have a legit left handed bat or #3 hitter. Did I leave anything out? Now I have no doubt they'll get hot throughout the summer. They'll win 90 games maybe and get to the WC game. Maybe win a round. But there is no chance this is a championship team. Zero. None. Zip. Talk me off the ledge because I'm currently hate watching them. Or if you hate them pile on fine by me.

Rico
One thing you missed is that baseball is no longer relevant to the vast majority of American sports fans, joining pro basketball. Of course, hockey was never there. So... it really doesn’t matter what they do to most people. Best to just look back and marvel at all the many pennants the Yankees won during the glory days of baseball.

When they were bringing in $320M with a payroll of $240M back in 2004 the profits were great.............fast forward to 2019 and the revenue is $900M and the payroll was closer to $200M. The profit margin got insane and it magnified the greed and lessened the need to win. They will likely end up over .500 for the 29th straight season but Hal Steinbrenner needs an attitude correction. I was glad the woeful Mets actually got a competitive owner..........maybe Hal will feel some pressure to perform going forward.

MLB and NBA are still very relevant to the majority of sports fans.........the numbers and tv $ back it up. (Hockey is mostly irrevelevant though) Basketball is the world's #2 sport and organized youth baseball participation has grown exponentially over the last decade so the narrative that the fanbases of those sports are dying is not correct. But nobody in the US can match up to football.........it's king for viewership...........they just don't play enough games to marginalize baseball and hoops. The only thing people watch "live" on TV anymore is sports and you can tune into your favorite MLB team every night for 6 months and every other night in the case of hoops. You and Rico probably aren't the fans of sport to the level you think you are. The numbers do not support the idea that baseball and or basketball have ever not been popular over the last 30+ years. Even after strikes they've drawn fans and done well enough in ratings to keep getting bigger and bigger rights deals.

Johnny Hammersticks
Don’t worry. The pitching staff will come together once German gets over the trauma of his woman beating, and Taillon remembers where home plate is. When is Severino returning? In a normal world Higgy would be the regular catcher and Stink-chez would be the back-up/DH/pinch hitter. I’m beginning to think Sanchez has some incriminating photos of Cashman or something. He sucks as a catcher. My Yankee fan friends laugh at me what I say that Judge shouldn’t be given an extension. I love him as an outfielder, love the home runs, but overall he is not a good hitter. He and Stanton are clones. Probably a wild card team when it’s all said and done.

This is ALWAYS code for "you can't talk to the kids like we did 30 years ago they need an arm around their shoulder." No doubt. Absolutely this is necessary at points in life. However this team has guys on it that look like they need a boot in hind parts especially Sanchez and Stanton. I like Boone. I think he's been good I think the 103 win season of an injury ravaged 2019 (look up the man games lost to almost every key piece) is one of the best managing jobs of the last 10 years. The funny thing now is I look back at those 90's/early 2000's team now with admiration and respect. But back in the day I used to hate them so much so even the few years the mets were tangling with the Braves for the NL East and the Braves would be playing an IL game with the Yanks, I would route for the braves even though I knew it would hurt the mets if the braves won. Over time, I mean the Yankees are just another team now. I mean my guess is they will win their 90 games. I watch a lot of baseball and I bet a lot of baseball(I got the MLB package so I get most games) I am not big on Judge and I definately am not big on Stanton. They strike out too much. I am a big fundamental guy, I have coached my sons travel team since he was 8 years old(he is 17 now), the Yankees to me don't do any of the little things to win games. Their situational hitting stinks and it starts with those two guys. They have talent so they will win their games. Us mets fans have our own problems. I know it is early but I wasn't about the Lindor trade when it happened, I sure don't like the 10 year contract they gave that guy(although once the trade went down they had little choice) Guys like Stanton & Judge, I don't like for the same reason I am not crazy about Alonzo. As you mentioned, neither Judge nor Stanton can say those things. Alonso has been disappointing in this young season. They're only 13 games in, so I'm hopeful that he'll warm up. Last night's defense between him and JD Davis was horrible. Conforto needs to show some consistency. I'm sure it pissed him off that they gave Lindor a billion dollars and didn't give him the extension he was looking for. Also agree re: Dom. Making Daniel Murphy 2B kept his bat in the lineup, but his crappy defense was one reason we lost the World Series in 2015. This goes back before Alderson's tenure, too. Phillips, Minaya, etc. ... same crap. For some reason the Mets' philosophy is always, "get great starting pitching and get good hitters, regardless of their primary/natural position." I don't like it and I hope it changes as Cohen gets settled. Edited April 22, 2021 by Gugny

4_kidd_4
Don’t mind the Yanks as a franchise, but the entitled fanbase gets old fast. Go Royals!

Stop fouling pitches off swinging for the downs when one whole half of the infield is wide open........and start squaring them up.......and they wouldn't have those baseballs in the first place. Now throwing rubber johnsons on the field..........that's harder to explain. Edited April 22, 2021 by BADOLBILZ

Go Royals! 28 straight winning seasons........and that not even being a franchise record..........will do that. Pre-pandemic the team was generating $900M in revenue and more than half of that was pure profit.........utterly dwarfing the nickels and dimes most teams make.........in a league without a salary cap.........no reason for them to ever field a losing team so no reason to not feel entitled. The Yanks greedy owner didn't want to cross the luxury tax line and share $10M-$15M with the rest of the league so he decided not to let the front office make necessary changes. Well that’s just a neato torpedo! Fanbase is still annoying.
Virgil
They have zero character or clubhouse leader. Boone doesn’t seem to have a relationship with anyone. Bring in a manager who can put a spark in this team and I think this sane roster wins the series
