The plan to start the 2020 NFL season: (Update - NFL and NFLPA agree on all issues)

I believe The CDC defines “contact” as within 6 feet with no mask, for at least 15 minutes

I would submit that the only people that would apply to are his OL mates and maybe the OL coach.  Everyone else (other coaches and players, family) can socially distance, wear masks and limit exposure.

Here is my problem with daily testing or semi-daily testing of NFL players.

Right now in Missouri (and I hear this is true in a number of other states), actively symptomatic people in risk groups (age, preexisting conditions) have to schedule a test up to 4-5 days out.   That test will then take 6-10 days to return results.  This ain't something abstract I heard in the media, I spent hours yesterday and this morning trying to find a test for a friend.  Though the media says I'm not alone in this experience.  Reports are that Quest and Labcorps nationwide are bombed and running a week behind.

Contact tracing is useless and "box in" strategies can't work with this sort of delay.

I love football.  I want football.

But to test totally healthy players trainers and coaches every day or every other day with next day results so they can pay a sport, while an aide caring for Elders or an actively symptomatic 59 yr old single parent engineer requires 72 hrs just to get a test taken, then a week or more to get the results....

....that does not sit comfortably with me.

PS it does not have to be this way.  There are readily available technical solutions, but they require implementation and coordination at a national level

Help me understand, why are Chiefs and Texans players required to report?

What's up with the other 30 teams?

JJ Watt's summary:

Must have something to do with them starting the season on that first Thursday night for the kickoff game, they must have a to report a few days early or something

Yup, that's the reason.

To me.........that means this season is impossible.

As much as I hate it, I doubt this year comes off as planned. They may start for the money, but I doubt they finish.

by the rules floating - it seems a terrible plan to go forward but no one wants to pull the plug til it’s reasonable to claim impossibility and avoid financial obligations to other parties.

It doesn't mean it's impossible.  They'll just need a bigger pool of players, like an expanded PS.  Maybe even cancel games if too many players are out.  But again, players need some skin in the game and to police each other.

Maybe not “impossible”, but more possibly meaningless.

What if Mahomes and the Chiefs offense gets decimated. Or the 49ers DLine goes down. The guys who would otherwise be driving UPS trucks should not decide the outcome. Enough positive tests and they will stop for fear of perceived lack of player health concerns.

I pray for the best possible outcome. I don’t know what that looks like.

Look at it as if it were a strike season.  Whether it has meaning means little to the NFL.  They want their money and fans want to see games.

meh. I’m getting closer and closer to making peace  with not seeing games if they can’t define plans pretty soon.

so far In this discussion we have racked up essentially no preseason, very limited camp and likewise limited practice in season, with diluted talent and possible cancelled games. For a season of higher health risk and less meaning.

if you hear that and say “bring it on” — I have lots of questions

I think this is the best approach, as fans. We want football. Everyone wants football. There is HUGE TV Money to be made to be playing the games. Regardless of which players are out there. It is what it is.

My biggest issue with this is the NFL hasn’t reported any league wide testing outside of orgs and players making it public. (Obviously HIPPA exists) It is half way through July and they haven’t reported any COVID cases as per of any league mandate. Why would I suddenly trust them to honestly report it come September, October, etc. say we make it to January, are they reporting it then? We are weeks away from training camp. Leagues trying to start up are reporting regularly, but not the NFL. Proportionately they should be at about 90 cases and crickets.

And no one is getting tested (as often) as players will be.  Follow the guidelines, point out those who aren't, and you'll in all likelihood be fine.

I am sure White House staff are being tested very frequently despite it declared "fake" by many supporters.

There are others who are able to get frequent testing but will not advertise it.

That happens, we are in the driver’s seat...

yes, because purposely getting sick is a brilliant idea

I believe the league testing/reporting  will start when teams report to camp

You DO know “death” isn’t the only potential side effect of the virus, don’t you?

Yes...and that’s why I’ve always been for cancelling all sports until there is a cure...but if they are going to play I’d rather they just get the virus out of the way...imo there is no way each and every member on every team won’t contract it at some point...

Not for nothing,  but there are side effects like lung damage & amputations from seasonal influenza as well... you just never hear about them because it’s extremely rare, as is the same with side effects/complications from Coronaviruses.

Not so sure that 'it's extremely rare' , also covid has only been around for about 7 months, really still learning about it.

Viruses are the most not usually cured.  Let me know when there is a cure for Hirpies, Shingles(which originated as chickenpox), HIV, The common cold(a form of Corona) and all the others.

There is a vaccine, Shingrix, for Shingles which was approved in 2017 and more effective than its predecessor, Zostavax, which was approved in 2006.

A vaccine is a preventative measure.  Not really a cure as it does nothing for you once you contract a virus.  If effective I guess it's better than a cure though.

Do what every other place does (and the Bills employees that have already been to the facility doing this).  take temp, Provide a mask, remove every other chair from meeting room. pay cleaners to clean every area a lot.

If the rest of the world can do this, why not these athletes
