I guess people in your neighborhood don’t let their cats out

Cats go missing all the time where I live;  good hunting ground for the coyotes.  Naturally the people who built houses on the coyotes’ mountain are always hysterical and want the city to “do something”

We've been getting those also; saw a big one trotting down the street the other day bold as you please. In the daytime, too.

Is seeing a 'roo like seeing a deer here in the States? Just a semi-normal occurance?

Depends where you live.

I am in the city and we don't see them. But if i drive about 30/60 mins towards the "mountains" or outskirts of the city, you will see plenty of them.

We see more seals than kangaroos in the streets :D

That's one way to keep people from stealing your packages.

A few weeks ago I actually saw a guy on my Ring totally yeet a package off my porch, but I think he probably had just delivered it to my place by accident and realized his mistake.

I guess the motion detector wasn't tuned quite right, because it only picked up the guy removing the package, not placing it there initially.

But yeah, with the lion roaming around, porch pirates had best avoid our neighborhood between dusk to dawn....

When I lived in the East SF Bay area (Dublin, CA) they would spot mountain lions occasionally on the arm reserve base over the hill,. About a week or so later, there would be reports of them in the mountains about 2 miles to the west. The only way for them to get there was through my neighborhood.  Through the middle of the neighborhood was a rails to trails. Never walked down that at night.

Was a report of a complete lion skeleton up  in the hills once. The cops found one hit by a car on the side of the interstate.  On that ridge, they would find half eaten deer carcasses. The lions would take a meal up there and watch the cars go by on the interstate. Once a mountain lion showed up about noon in an apartment complex in Pleasanton, CA (where Madden lives). Another time  a mountain lion was spotted at the gate of the Livermore National Lab. The anti-nuke people were doing their yearly demonstration at the gate on Good Friday. The cops warned the demonstrators but they did it anyway.  Yje lion stayed there in place. The cops later shot it and  found out it had broken keg from being hit by a car.

Our tour guide the other day called them “nuisance animals.”  Didn’t stop us from ogling when we saw a mob.

BTW, they taste great! I was surprised... had a kangaroo burger with beet jam and thought it was fabulous.

I guess answer "Move to Florida, they do not have coyotes" is not good enough?

I was working outside Canberra in 1995 for 2 months and the damn Roos were far worse than deer where I live.

I see a deer 2 to 3 times a week.  I had to avoid roo every freaking hour when driving

I saw the title and clicked, just fearing it was video from my college days!

So, you live at the zoo?

We got an email this week that we have coyotes in the neighborhood, just outside of Atlanta. I don’t care if they get the cats, but I’m afraid our Golden Retriever will want to “play” with one. We put food in her bowl twice a day. That’s as “wild” as she understands.

Kitty!

We don't have anything cool like that.  Deer out the wazoo, foxes, opossum. Standard stuff.  Every couple of years a bear will wander through the area and the whole world loses it's mind.

Our previous dog King(ston) had an interesting relationship with wildlife which wandered in our yard.

  • My wife would take my dog on walks and he would want to chase squirrels every time he saw.  After enough "NOs" he would stop chasing but he also left the squirrels in yard alone.
  • A very large turtle got in our yard and was seriously malnutritoned.  We gave it an area and fed it greens and some fish scraps until it was healthy enough to leave. My dog would wander to turtle area and sniff turtle over "fence" and not know what to do with it.
  • A woodchuck came in yard and my dog had a nose-to-nose conversation which we finally broke up and then the woodchuck left. Largest woodchuck I have ever seen including many zoos.
  • A wounded fawn got into our yard which appeared to have jumped fence but could not jump back out.  My dog chased her around the yard playing and would sometimes lick the wound.  Animal control finally came and took her someplace else.

I think if a coyote got into yard King would have played with it as long as it was willing to play or would do what he did with woodchuck.

Most unusual wildlife I have seen in our yard is a dead lynx caught between two fences on edge of property and died.  We could not get it out without taking down a fence so we just covered it with dirt and leaves so my dog did not try to dig it up and let nature take its course with body.

If the coyote was hungry, King may have had a disappointing experience. Wild animals need to eat. I’m afraid my dog would bring shame on our family if she ever caught up with the neighbors pet cats!

Our last Golden used to get taunted by deer in our yard who literally wanted to play. She was intimidated by their size, I think.
“Thanks, but I’ll pass and just hang here by the pool.”  Smart dog, that one.

Yeah, we get bears too.

A few years back one wandered too close to campus on its morning walk, and I ended up locked into a classroom with a bunch of 3rd graders for an hour

I would rather have taken my chances with the bear.
