Great Movie Soundtracks

Movies like Woodstock and the Song Remains the Same shouldn't apply, as the music IS the movie; not the soundtrack, per se.  However, there are a couple movies I have in mind that "could" be musicals, but not really.  So post away!!!

Goodfellas is an awesome soundtrack.

The soundtrack from "Heat" the Michael Mann film is good...if you like that kind of thing.

The Blues Brothers.

Kill Bill Vol 1.

Guardians of the Galaxy.

Baby Driver.  Seriously, any movie that sets a car/gun fight to Brighton Beach Rock has a good soundtrack.

But again, Goodfellas is still the gold standard.

James Newton howard’s Soundtracks are excellent. He scored many of M. Night’s movies (unbreakable is probably his best).

hans zimmer is also terrific. I loved his soundtrack for Christopher Nolan’s Inception— the soundtrack really made the movie.

my personal favorite though is Shawshank Redemption (Thomas Newman).

Repo Man is easily my favorite.

BTW, surprised nobody mentioned Saturday Night Fever yet. Not my music, but iconic all the same.

Purple Rain and Saturday Night Fever are excellent calls.

I was going to mention Purple Rain, but I felt it violated your "music is the movie" stipulation.

I think the music was definitely a big part of the movie, but it wasn't "the movie."

On that note, I'll throw "Grease," in there with the same reasoning.  It was far more of a musical than Purple Rain, but I still think it was more movie than musical.

Yeah Casino...another one! I liked the film, but it wasn't as good as advertised...horrible corn field scene!

I can't hear Land of the Rising Sun without thinking of the ending of Casino

I can't hear Layla without thinking of the scene from Goodfellas where they start finding the bodies

I can't hear Don't Stop Believing without thinking about the ending of Sopranos

Yeah...kind of cathartic! I like the Ronettes song "Then he kissed me" Where Henry is taking Karen through the kitchen to the club. He was now big and he had his lady!

Haven’t you voted enough? I mean, you started this thread and now you’ve spouted off six of your favorites. Do you want to just list all your favorites in one post of keep selecting new “favorites”? Come off the fence and take a stand!!

Risky Business (Tangerine Dream)

Platoon

I missed that when I made my picks, so I will say Rock And Roll High School.
