2016 NFL Draft

Recommended Posts

Out of curiosity, I was taking a look at previous Whaley regime drafts. What a mess.

2016:

1st Round: Shaq Lawson - declined 5th year option

2nd Round: Reggie Ragland - traded for 4th round pick - no longer on team

3rd Round: Adolphus Washington - practice squad player - no longer on team

4th Round: Cardale Jones - traded for 7th rounder - cut - no longer on team

5th Round: Jonathan Williams - practice squad player - no longer on team

6th Round: Kolby Listenbee - never played - no longer on team

6th Round - Kevon Seymour - traded for Kaelin Clay - both no longer on team

Everyone misses picks, but damn...

I was looking at the whole draft earlier and the whole draft was a bust. A few players came out of it but overall not good

One of the worst drafts ever...thanks Whaley (and Wrex).

Why Whaley wasn't fired immediately after the 2016 season ended is beyond belief.  He was already gagged and told never to speak to the media after his disaster of a final press conference.

To be fair, though, all of those guys, with the exception of Listenbee, are currently on an NFL team.

Can we just refer to that draft as "That which must not be named."

Myles Jack, Jarron Reed, and Chris Jones in round 2–not too shabby.  Top part of first round was good, too.

And I thought Kolby Listenbee had a chance.  Darn!

All regimes after John Butler were really terrible.

Wait a minute, now... 2018:

Round #1

Josh Allen

Tremaine Edmunds

Round #3

Harrison Phillips

Round #4

Aaron Johnson

Round #5

Siran Neal

Wyatt Teller

Round #6

Ray Ray McCloud

Round #7

Austin Proehl

Even as recent as it is, you'd have to be pretty cynical to call that a terrible draft.

All is forgiven if Shaq gets 20 sacks this season...

Before this group of executives came in, I routinely would tell anyone who'd listen that the average fan the watched college football that had access to an over the counter draft guide and scouting reports would have out performed previous Bills regimes.  The fans here (Philadelphia) would laugh and give a cursory nod, but looking back at so many misses from the late 90's to 16 it seems like couldn't have done worse if they tried.  And I thought Chip Kelly was bad...

Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane aren't the new HC/GM combo for nothing.

They are going to get their chance to fail miserably too.

Let's just hope they are the exception to the rule for Buffalo.

Why does everyone forget about Reid Ferguson?

Because he was undrafted?

The 8 ball in his back pocket made him off balance?

Yeah... on the practice squad. Other than Ragland, who is a backup.

Too bad Whaley never got to choose his own HC.  Or draft his own players.  Or cross the street without someone holding his hand.

Yeah. I’d hate to be paid $1 million + to screw up a clean slate. Put him on the Wall!!!!

Yep. That’s some pretty atrocious stuff, which is why I prefer to look forward than backward.

These draft results confirm what many of us thought at the time of that 2016 draft.  Whaley rightly deserves the blame that he has received but so does Wrex and the scouting/personnel department.  It was no mystery to me why there was a house cleaning in the scouting department and the front office was cleared out as well.  Is anybody surprised that neither Whaley nor Wrex have been given another chance by an NFL team?  When the 2017 draft occurred, we were lucky that Whaley wasn't even allowed to pick out the donuts for the draft room.

Man did I catch hell from the usual suspects for calling that draft "uninspired".

That draft is on Rex............the players needed to stock that kind of defense simply aren't being produced at the college level so they reached for Shaq projecting him to OLB() and Reggie Ragnuts(a sorry version of a 1990's ILB) and gave away 2 4th rounders just to get up to select doze nutz.
