When he showed nothing we had to cut him. Move on. As for the punter, if this kid does not show well you bring Schmidt or the other guy back. DefenseWins Posted September 3, 2018 Share Posted September 3, 2018 I fail to see what all the concern about bringing in a new Punter at the start of the season is all about. It's not like Schmidt was all that wonderful/consistent over the time he has been here. I don't know anything about Bojorquez but have to assume that Beane and the scouting dept have alot better knowledge and info than any of us fans do. We fans should at least give this kid a chance before we start criticizing this move. And as far as Coleman was concerned no GM is gonna bat 1000 all the time. I'm sure Allen will go through some growing pains as well but I think his selection will be well respected before long. Lets remember that Kelly had two years in the USFL before he came here and didn't exactly become a "legend" overnight either. Overall McBeane have done a wonderful job since coming here and deserve the benefit of any doubt we fans may have. Sit back, relax, pop open a cold one or three and get the popcorn out... But the more I read this post, the more I'm becoming suspicious........................did any of you see the movie "Eleven Angry Men" Maybe, just maybe Beane had no intention of bringing in a young speedy WR, recently cut................. Maybe there was never any intention of having CColeman run pass routes here........................maybe, just maybe................... This whole situation stinks and I think the OP is on to something here that needs to be investigated. Let's call it CoreyGate....................................... It sets you up well for bad snaps and fake field goals. I’m guessing the overall lack of practice time allowed by the CBA changed things. There used to be a time when things like is were an afterthought. Now every little thing is timed and such. The long snapper, kicker, and punter have nothing to do in practice besides their specialty. So having a punter spending a ton of time with the kicker holding is good, and it becomes almost automatic. Having a quarterback doing it gives him less time to practice quarterback things. Yeah, it doesn't seem that long ago that Moorman became the first punter to have a net average of 40.0+ yards. The bar is much higher now. The top punters are now approaching averages of 50 yards per punt with net averages around 45 yards. Schmidt's numbers were more in line with Moorman's numbers in the past. Bean is pretty good in my personal opinion and I like him a lot, but it's foolish to pretend like he is always right and 100% knocks it out of the park on every pickup. Given that those truths are self evident (that we can't be certain about a guy until we have him in our hands for our own evaluation), is it not shocking that an NFL club would be making a move like this with a starting position just 7 days before the season kicks off? They must REALLY have not liked schmidt, because this is pretty risky move if the new rookie punter who has never even played a snap in the NFL isn't so hot. I get that the punter isn't a glamorous position and it's definitely not the most important one, that doesn't mean it's not important at all. I can say for one thing there is no other position on the team where this "situation" would be appropriate. The safe thing to do is to stand pat with mediocrity. That’s not Beane’s approach. in any case, Beane knows there are a few vet punters looking for work if the kid can’t handle the big time. But his leg looks live enough on his highlight reel. Now, he's the starting punter for the Bills and has never kicked in a regular or pre-season NFL game. A mystery man?? Not according to the Patriots long time place kicker -who is a family friend (he grew up in the Buffalo area as a kid)- who saw him through out pre-season. "He's got a monster leg , is a very good place kick holder and just needs to work on his placement of kicks.
