FBI Raids Office of Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen

This is a mistake people make about Trump all the time... do not look at what he says, look at what he does.  The Twitter rants are squirrels that far too many cannot resist. Sure he uses them to bypass the press and get out his message that would otherwise be smothered, with a pillow, by the "MSM", but some of it is theater.  He is a master marketer, and he plays people like a fiddle.

Mueller probably should have been fired eons ago. There is no there vis-à-vis "Russian collusion". That is why there is now a fishing trip to an alleged 12-year-old affair with a pr0n star.  They are throwing all sorts of fecal matter at the wall hoping it will stick.

Meh, it keeps 'em busy while that OIG report is being delivered.

The only thing Trump has ever been a "master" at is hustling snake oil to the foolish. That is what he does. That is what he has always done.

Can you imagine if Hillary had a resume that included her version of Trump University? Lol, this ridiculous board would be losing their damn minds. That's not even going into the multiple bankruptcies, and all the other sh*t.

Trump is not ahead of the situation; he's not masterminding a game of 4-dimensional chess to take down the Deep State. It's merely a story, and a poorly told one, at that, and only works so long as you don't mind all of the smoke & mirrors -- Trump's counter-narrative adds up to exactly nothing. It's as truthful as Trump Steaks or building the wall and making Mexico pay for it.

The reality is that Trump is an emotional, reactionary doofus with delusions of grandeur and entitlement... just like the majority of his base.

Y'know, Boyst, if you really want to tick off liberals – the one thing liberals DO NOT want conservatives to do — is to eat your own sh*t. You're free to do it, there's nothing we can do to stop you. And that's our weakness. Yes, by eating your own feces tonight & washing it down with a "Liberal Tears" mug of piss, you'll really show the Soros-sponsored nanny state who's boss.

You're right that firing Mueller wouldn't stop the Cohen investigation and that Trump has no idea what he's talking about at any given moment.

I'm just not quite convinced Trump won't try to do it anyway.

You might like it if you ever ventured outside of the bubble, my dude.

Good for you, but share your fashion choices with your friends because I don't care.

Curious: why don't we ever see DC Tom, et al, calling you out for your non-stop "Look At Me" posts? Supposedly, this board is for political debate, yet you only seem to post diary entries. Maybe everyone's ignored you at this point, except me? I don't know.

I've been trying to maintain my rule to not put anyone on ignore, but the diagnosis is in, Boyst, and it's looking bad — you're terminally dull.

But Mueller needs 2wrap things up and go public with what he has found - or not found. America doesn’t have permanent presidential prosecutors. The longer this goes on, the more divided we become. The time is quickly coming for M 2tell us what he’s got. And what he doesn’t have.

#Mueller used SDNY to get around his lack of authorization to even request searching Cohen's files for non-collusion related issues. Did SDNY properly get authorization from #Sessions before seizing attorney-client files? Or is #Sessions still asleep at the wheel?

Think #Mueller associates followed law in Cohen search? Re-read Manafort search. #Mueller's sneak-and-peek of Manafort's private locker based on "consent" from ex-employee (didn't fit Constitutional Consent), then did illicit general warrant next day, w/o #Rosenstein authority.

Not sure this gets any better. Mueller now investigating a 6-figure sum made to Trump org by Victor Pinchuk during the campaign. Pinchuk also donated millions to Clinton Foundation & met with HRC while he dumped steel.

But whose lawyers are being raided ?

To all the Democrats saying “this is the process” and “nobody is above the law”

No, it’s not, this is a hyper aggressive tactic under the circumstances that undermines attorney client privilege and we already saw from DOJ’s actions that Hillary was considered above the law

Cohen is being accused of bank fraud and breaking campaign finance laws. Those are both very serious charges that will likely land him in prison for many years. No fishing trip, this is all very standard SOP. Mueller tipped off the SDNY who then followed normal procedures for securing a warrant. One of the attorneys that signed off on it was personally interviewed and hired by Trump. There's a lot of scrutiny here so they would have had to be pretty certain to sign off on it. I'm mostly just restating the article I posted above if you care to read it.

From what I read on a few legal blogs (I know, I know) there are many steps that this should have gone through before a warrant was issued as well as a "dirty team" separate from the "clean team" and someone else overseeing the collection,  running the investigation to go through whatever was taken from Cohen's office, etc.  (The original source is being slammed and down.) So, is this for headlines? A squirrel? Or is it for real? Was there a three-step layer to collect documents? If so, then they may want to make Cohen's life miserable via lawfare. If not... well, then it was for show.

I'm not sure how a man who self-funded so much of his campaign wouldn't have $130K slush fund set-up with his attorney to make people like Ms. Daniels go away with allegations. My thought is she has ruined it for the next adult film star looking for a payoff from a high profile mark.

Mueller investigating $150,000 donation Ukrainian steel titan made to Trump's foundation in 2015 for 20 min video talk Trump gave to conference in Kiev.

Michael Cohen arranged the payment. Trump was running for Republican nomination at the time.

The same family has donated more than $13 MILLION to the Clinton Foundation since 2006.

Yeah those are the exact steps they would have followed. There's no reason to think that they weren't followed. Here's a former federal prosecutor explaining the whole thing:

https://reason.com/archives/2018/04/09/what-we-know-about-the-search-trump-lawy

The warrant will be made public at some point so we'll have more details eventually. It had to pass an extremely stringent review to get authorized. The district attorney who signed off it on it is a registered Republican that Trump personally appointed. There's no reason to think the normal process wasn't followed here. Just a lot of Trump loyalists desperately trying to make it seem like he's suffered a horrible injustice.

I wonder what the American Bar Association's and the ACLU's reactions will be (soft-worded finger wag at best). How many clients does Michael Cohen have that would have triggered a Mueller referral?  I get that there are procedures in place, and I get that these procedures were likely followed, but talk about a bad precedent.

Anyone who who hates Trump and is crowing today should remember that the karma wheel comes around, and this weapon (if upheld) could and will some day be used against anyone.  Recrimination is a B word.  This smacks of an attack on the President, and it diminishes the office of the President no matter how odeous the officeholder is.  The lack of restraint is remarkable, and this looks 100% like a fishing expedition against someone who is unliked because he's an ass.  While it is indisputable that the President is an ass, it is not a reason to target him.  It also isn't justifiable to continually try to take down an office-holder just because he doesn't share a progressive platform.

The only thing that would get me to review my opinion that this is fishing for Trump is if the warrant listed individual clients, specific communications and actual files of clients of Cohen not named Donald Trump.  Even so, attorney-client privilege is one of the most sacrosanct protections (husband/wife, Doctor/patient, clergy, attorney/client) against side-door entries by prosecutors.  Even if Cohen's files are vetted into "privileged" and "not privileged", there's still a team of people reviewing communications that they've got no right to review.  Otherwise, this is a sad, disappointing, day.

This "investigation" is more disturbing than anything it's turning up. I realize it's hard to keep the big picture in perspective when the only picture in your sights is getting Trump, but nothing good is coming out of this for anyone.

It's kind of funny how the (*^*&%^$^#wing of the left gets orgasmic every time this witch hunt turns up dirt on someone connected to Trump even though said dirt has nothing to do with him. It's kind of like getting off on a FG when you're down 50-3.

Yeah.  I guess you can say the difference is Hillary was never president.  The country will suffer from all of this.  Trump looked more frazzled than I've seen him and that's what a Special Counsel does to a president (see Nixon).  I'd feel bad for him if he didn't spurn the Special Counsel to begin with by botch the reason for the Comey firing.  A lot more is going to come out of this as I find it hard to believe that they raided the offices and home of Cohen over $130,000 hush money that may have violated campaign finance laws.  Seems a little extreme.

For those who are giddy right now, you do realize if Trump is impeached and eventually resigns (still unlikely), you get Mike Pence.  A fundamentalist far right ideologue who once described himself as "Rush Limbaugh on decaf" who vehemently supported the Iraq War despite growing evidence of no weapons of mass destruction.  He also won't say stupid things and have all the drama attached to him making it more likely a Republican majority in all three branches will get more done.

Yes, people are aware who the Vice President is, but thanks for the heads up, Doc.

I know this doesn't compute for most Republicans but.... there are people in the world who actually have consistent morals & want to see justice served, as opposed to simply supporting whatever they need to when their "team" is winning.

Where are any of the so-called "principled" conservatives that endlessly attacked Obama & Clinton over the years? You'd think we'd be hearing from them now more than ever.

The small government guys? Nothing but a murmur as the national debt skyrockets.

The law and order types? Quiet about Trump's endless attacks on the FBI.

The tough military dudes? Nothing about Trump mocking gold star families and demanding Soviet-style military parades.

The tough on Russia guys? Suddenly, Trump sucking up to Putin is actually good.

The fiscal hawks? Nada about tax cut debt.

The "Obama doesn't have experience" crowd? No complaints from them this time.

The "family values" types? Not a peep about Trump being a serial adulterer and overall creep.

The "Hillary's emails" screamers? They'll cut their own hand off before discussing all the corners Trump cut, because he's their guy.

Does anyone else remember when conservatives were all parroting that dude who was always on Fox News, the guy who wrote "Clinton Cash"? Will we hear from him on Trump getting $150,000 for a 20-minute Skype chat to a Ukranian steel magnate? https://mobile.nytimes.com/2018/04/09/us/politics/trump-mueller-ukraine-victor-pinchuk.html#click=https://t.co/yydBI0xMq4  Or is Fox News too busy with the horny pandas?

Trump's election revealed many things about our country. One lesson was that conservatism in America isn't an ideology. Not truthfully. It is an ideology with exactly as much depth as their "Liberal Tears" coffee mugs. In practice, conservatism is whatever it needs to be, to serve the purpose of criticizing anyone who isn't "them." And it works. Republicans radicalize the rubes, scare 'em out to the polls so they vote on guns, abortions, Mexicans, whatever...  all for no better reason than so the Kochs can get richer.

If we can only have two parties in America, it'd be swell to have better options than "abject evil" and "Democrats."

Didnt mean to throw those big fancy words at you) Prison for Cohen for sure. Probably just impeachment for Traitor Trump. Ill keep cheering on a war hero(Bob Mueller) as he fights to put a corrupt five time draft dodger behind bars. You can all get back to beating your wives and posting racist rants on the KKK website.
