It's possible that both of you have a point, which is that you guys are both on the extremes.  On one side they totally discount PFF and then on your side, it's the determinant.

It's a metric not the be all end all.

All last season I said McD would be going after his next Keuchle, so it wouldn't surprise me if this is what they're doing.

But if they moved up to 13 to take Smith or the VT linebacker, what do they do at qb?   Is Cousins still in play?.

Seems to me highly unlikely they are making these trades for a lb.  They are going after qb.  There is a rumor that Smith was medically red-flagged at the combine and could fall.  You might be able to get him at 22.

Perhaps I should clarify:  22 will be gone in a trade up, but if we wanted Smith, we might not have had to make moves in order to trade up to get him.

Vince Wilfork is (was) elite.

Lutulelei has never even made the Pro Bowl. Which is really hard to do when you're a Top 15 draft pick.

To even compare him to Wilfork is laughable.

Wayne,

You specifically stated you don't give a run stuffer a 5 year contract.  That was Wilfork.

Marques Colston never made a pro bowl so that proves he wasn't a good WR.

Just because a guy takes up a lot of space doesn't make him a "space eater." It's a term people like to use when they can't explain why a fat guy can't make plays because he gets dominated at the line of scrimmage.

McDermott knows Star better than anyone.  He wanted him and is an early signing for us.

I'll trust McDermott and you can trust PFF and the fans who didn't vote for Star in the Pro Bowl.

Well, that's my hope as well. He's been less than impressive the last year or so.

Butler could never pass star for starting so despite PFF's stats he was always starting for one of the best defenses in the league since he came in. Luke didn't have lineman getting into the second level because of star and luke racked up tackles. I think we will be happy.

Many people complained about Dareus saying he didn't do anything and them complained about how bad they were after he left. Sometimes their importance isn't noticed through measurable personal stats like tackles and sacks

I guarantee the deal they give Star will be better than we gave the Gravy Boat. 100 million for inconsistent effort from Dareus will be replaced with about a quarter of that with a Max effort guy. Beane replaced that ridiculous Whaley contract with a manageable one. This is what a good GM does.

Eating up a double team/holding the line of scrimmage to create a defensive point of attack is critical to stopping the run or not allowing the QB to step up away from pressure

Sorry you dont understand

I think this correct. I saw something that said he was looking for four years at $40 million, so your 8-9 is a little low but in the ball park.

By the way, buying these guys after a down year is smart.  It keeps the price down a bit.

This also indicates that we are likely not drafting a DT and depending on how active we are in free agency, it may also further cement the idea that we are moving to 2-3 for a QB.

Vander Esch is very similar in size to Luke, he is one inch taller and 5 pounds heavier. Luke ran a 4.58, Esch ran a 4.65. Esch had a better 3 cone, so perhaps that balances out a bit? The rest of their numbers are pretty similar.

If the Bills are able to keep that pick at 22 I think he is very much in play.

Kuechly is the smartest LB in the league right now and none of those measureables will measure a player's IQ.

Don't know much about Esch but what makes Kuechly amazing is his ability to play one step ahead of everyone. Comparing the measureables like that is useless IMO.

The Bills have more of a cap hit this year for Dareus than the jags do.

Dareus did not need to be traded when he was.

The only move i have disagreed with this regime on so far.

No, I said you don't give guys who are named "space eater" because they can't make plays five-year contracts. Star has been bad against the run the last two seasons.

Maybe McDermott can revitalize his career.
