Football Czar for off season

I think it is a must this year for off season. A guy higher to Beane and McDermott. No yes man. To keep these guys in check and get rid of coaches not doing there job..  Maybe the biggest need for off season. They report to him then to Pegula's. How I think should be after all of this.

What you guys think?

I think you hire a quality GM like most teams and they are in charge of the football operation....Hiring a coach first and then a GM and giving a rookie HC this much control is wrong

The last time the Bills hired a GM and then gave him full authority to hire his own coach was Buddy Nix hiring Chan in 2009.  We are on to our 3rd HC since that point.... none of whom have been the choice of an empowered GM.  Buddy and Russ hired Marrone, only to turn the GM job over to Whaley 4 months later.  Terry and Kim decided they were NFL experts and hired Rex and then some combo of Terry and Doug hired Sean only to fire Doug and let the Coach pick the GM.

The Bills hired 3 men for the front office capable of being a GM..  Joe Schoen and Brian Gaine and Beane...plus they added other high potential employees in Lake Dawson and Malik Boyd.  This is truly scouting firepower to supplement Beane's administrative skills.  They don't need a personnel Tsar they need personnel....

....VERY well stated bud..........another level of bureaucracy and OBD will resemble the Federal government.....no czar or czarina necessary...

I’m starting to wonder whether the Pegulas should consider cashing out, if not selling the teams outright, at least selling majority stakes and becoming passive investors.  They’ve destroyed both franchises through a combination of good intentions and plain old incompetence.

At some point they have to be held accountable...both franchises look lost

The time to have a czar, even if as a temporary position, was BEFORE Pegula went out, pretended he knew how to run a sports franchise, and did all the interviewing/hiring himself for the  HC and GM positions.

Our current HC and GM are here because McD impressed Pegula in a job interview.

That might work out fine in the end; could be a total disaster too.

Too early to say.

Problem is we as fans are in a no win situation.

Realistically people should speak with their wallets, playing to empty stadiums and hurting the bottom line would force accountability.  Problem is, the fans here do that and the team is gone.  So the Pegulas are in a win / win situation, either the stadium gets filled for an inferior product, or it doesn't and they can cash out, see a nice return on their investment and not be the bad guys when the team moves.

I'm all for a Csar, but also all for a Tsar. In fact, we really should be hoping for a Csar of Tsars, or would we want a Tsar of Csars...either way the (T/C)sar would need oversight from the (C/T)sar.

Can the Tsar be a Tatar?

No we dont need more chefs in the kitchen. We need to let Beane and McDermott execute their plan which they clearly have for this team.

Whether its a good plan remains to be seen...likely won't know for 2 more years. Adding more people to muddy the waters is exactly what we DON'T need at this point. Being wishy washy and refusing to stick to something at the first sign of trouble is what has gotten us in this position for the last 18 years in the first placem

So let's blow this up after one season that was supposed to be rebuilding year.  Going 5-2 was probably the worst thing that could have happened to this team.

Bingo.

I think the actions of McBean have been pretty consistent, flush out big money or guys who aren't a fit for them, load up on draft picks and start building a sustainable base with cheap young talent.  Problem is the 5-2 start, basically built off beating a bunch of teams more screwed up than us who were thought of highly at the time we played them, dramatically shifted fan expectations.  Now a 6-10 or 7-9 season looks like a colossal failure.

I think that is an awful idea. Beane has put together a pretty well regarded staff and has had about 1/10th of a season to do his job with the majority of it coming up here Feb-May. McD is going to work with what he has which isn't a ton. The season started as a mirage and I think he knew it but as fans we didn't. That said anyone could see the LB core was a massive liability and the middle of the defensive line also would need work.

If it was the end of year 3 and things were not doing well then sure a Czar like Coughlin in JAX would make sense. But these guys just took the job, the front office/coach is streamlined currently, and you don't have the leaks accusing the each other of things like the last few years so just need to give it time.

Benching Tyrod, trades, Vlad starting, poor defense and offense. Someone that can light a fire on there butts when doing bad.. Over see all football players as well with coach relationships, as well coach relationship with players.

Not someone that's a Yes man to everything

If that's the logic, the next thing you know we'll be calling for an Emperor over the Czar to keep that guy "in check".

You appoint people, and empower them to make decisions. You don't hire other people to second guess those decisions.  Otherwise you should have hired the second person instead of the first.
