Not saying that Reich won't be good, but he wasn't great with SD as an OC, he led the Chargers to one of their worst offenses in over a decade, the only worse one was under Hal Hunter (right, who's he) two years ago. This sounds good on paper but practically speaking is a roll-of-the-dice at best. I don't like the idea of Whaley being able to do more long-term damage to this organization. He'll hire someone that he can control more given how things ended up with Marrone. That's not good for us. Aren't you the poster that declared Sammy would be a bust due in large part to his inability to run routes beyond what he ran at Clemson? I hope that whoever it is, Schwartz is still with the team--the continuity will make a difference, and the team can go forward kicking the dust of Doug Marone off their cleats. It's not a 1 man project. I'd imagine that the hierarchy will be well defined.Also, RB has WAY more experience in hiring people in general. There is a skill to it. While Whaley will be listening for the candidates football vision Russ will be able to see things like will this guy fit within our culture? How will this guy's strengths mesh with the guys that we have here? Every organization has people meet with the top people prior to hiring them. It doesn't mean that it is their decision but they are looking for those types of things. Any candidate that I have ever hired was run by my boss. I had the final decision but wanted another set of experienced eyes in case there was something that I was missing. In my professional career I have never seen a situation where only 1 person made a decision on a candidate -ever. As kind of an aside I don't know if you guys have ever read strengthfinders but I am a HUGE believer in building an organization with complimentary strengths. You should really check it out & I'd encourage you to bring it to your organizations. It's a phenomenal way to identify the strengths of your group and where you may have some blind spots. Whaley is excellent. Listening to him speak, he comes off as a sharp knowledgable and articulate guy. Compared to Marrone who sounds like he got hit in the head too many times. (The guy comes off as pretty stupid for an NFL headcoach) And you got to love him finding guys like Baccari Rambo Marquise Gray Marcus Thigpen and Coltan Schmidt. Now just find us a stud QB from anywhere, and we will be in business. (Bryce Petty anyone?) Did anyone else think it was pretty stupid of Marrone to keep a kickoff specialist, when our kicker Dan Carpenter has one of the strongest legs in the NFL? I think that said everything about Marrone right there. That and sending Robert Woods Mike Williams and Jerry Hughes to the doghouse for no reason whatsoever. They do not need to make any public statement on this. It can and should be discussed privately with the candidates. He kept total status quo one time. He totally cleaned house the other time including making up a brand new job for someone. How anyone can make any kind of comparison as to what he will do with the Bills is ridiculous. There is an automatic rebuttal that he did the exact opposite with the Sabres. Therefore all comparisons are worthless IMO. There is no trend. There is no model he will follow again. There is nothing to be insinuated from what he did. He did both extremes. Pegula - Bought Sabres - Kept Status Quo - Then cleaned house Pegula - Bought Bills - Kept Status Quo - Then will clean house if they fail. Pegula could very well have been planning on making Marrone change coordinators. And again, Russ has less duties. There are more changes coming. Overdorf may be gone, too. In three days, just because there was no immediate complete overhaul you cannot at all say it was going to be status quo. It already hasn't been and there is more to come.
