  1. Whaley is excellent. Listening to him speak, he comes off as a sharp knowledgable and articulate guy. Compared to Marrone who sounds like he got hit in the head too many times. (The guy comes off as pretty stupid for an NFL headcoach) And you got to love him finding guys like Baccari Rambo Marquise Gray Marcus Thigpen and Coltan Schmidt. Now just find us a stud QB from anywhere, and we will be in business. (Bryce Petty anyone?) Did anyone else think it was pretty stupid of Marrone to keep a kickoff specialist, when our kicker Dan Carpenter has one of the strongest legs in the NFL? I think that said everything about Marrone right there. That and sending Robert Woods Mike Williams and Jerry Hughes to the doghouse for no reason whatsoever.
  2. Kellen Moore is a winner. Plain and simple. Problem is the guy is SMALL! I would try and get Bradford and than Sanchez. And if Moore is available, go after him also. We also need to draft someone like a Bryce Petty from Baylor. The guy is a baller. We go into training camp w Bradford or Sanchez, Moore, Manuel and a rookie such as Petty, and we should be able to come out w someone decent to start. If EJ does not win the starting job, get rid of him. We can win w Bradford Sanchez or Moore, if we improve the O line. They are horrendous. We do not have a NFL starter at guard on the team. And Wood has just gotten worse and worse. Seriously, get rid of Urbik, Wood and Pears. Move Sheantrell to left tackle. He played much better there in the summer. And move Glenn to guard. Bring in a center, two guards and a tackle and let them all fight it out for starting spots. But my goodness, the interior of our line is god awful. And Wood is as bad as any of them.
  3. We need two guards and a TE in free agency. Pears and Urbik are bad to horrible on a weekly basis. I would get rid of Orton and bring in a veteran in free agency, and draft someone w potential both to compete w EJ. If EJ continues to suck we should just cut him. On Defense Dareus will be a Bill for life. Searcy is becoming a top notch player. He will be resigned giving us a very nice group at safety w Duke Aaron and Rambo, who can play. He was a stud at Georgia. Great find by Whaley. Hughes would be nice to keep. But he is suspect against the run, and we still have Wynn and Lawson. We could probably also find someone cheaper in free agency, or in the draft. Spiller is a nice luxury who does not have a lot of mileage. But I would not break the bank on any RB. We get the O line upgraded and Bryce Brown will do just fine. I would keep Spikes at a reasonable price as well. He is a winner, and plays w anger and great spirit. In summary, the O has been awful most of the year. We need upgrades at QB O line and TE. From there we try and keep as much of the D together as financially possible. I would sacrifice Jerry Hughes and Spiller for the offensive pieces we so desperately need.
  4. I completely agree. Besides the Jets games, and the last drive against Minnesota, Orton has been terrible. He has not completed one deep pass all season. (I don't think he has even given our receivers a chance on any of his deep throws) He has ZERO mobility, and plays w no inspiration. I hope the Bills part ways w him when the season is over. Management would have to be absolutely brain dead to not see what all us fans have seen from Orton. I believe there will be major changes at the QB position for next season. If Sanchez is available, that would be a start. An avg to above avg QB w Woods Sammy and 7/11 to throw to, and adding a big red zone threat, and this team will be so sweet on both sides of the ball.
  5. Adam Schein sums it up pretty well. We NEED an NFL QB on our roster. Right now, I am not sure we have one. Orton looked horrible this week. And seems to have lost any feel for giving our receivers even a chance at catching the deep ball. The last throw to Sammy wasn't even close. I honestly think that we would be a better offense at this point if we brought EJ in next week at Oakland. At least he can run. Orton missed Fred on those two screens early in the game. And than Woods over the middle late when noone was around him. My 11 yr old can make that throw everytime. Orton stinks, and plays w absolutely no passion. Whaley and Marrone's job in the offseason is to find two guys who can throw to compete for the starting job. Draft someone like Bryce Petty, and bring in a veteran. Heck, I think Charlie Whitehurst was throwing the ball better for Tennessee yesterday than Orton has in the past month. We need to improve the O line also. What a regression for Cordy Glenn. He plays w zero passion and looks completely disinterested. Put Seantrel at LT and bring in another tackle or maybe Kuanjuo will be ready at rt tackle. And bring in two guards. We have an owner w bucks now. Upgrade the O line, (Pears and Urbik syanora. And take Cordy w you) bring in a QB who is at least average to above. And this team will be in the mix for a championship next year. And as an aside. Noone brings in guys who contribute at the bottom of the roster like Whaley. How sweet have Maquise Gray, Bacari Rambo and Marcus Thigpen looked? Wow!! way to go DW...
  6. Look at Pettine's record in Cleveland. They came back in the last minute in Atlanta, and our now 7-4. Seriously, if we lose to the Jets and than the Browns w Pettine next week, they might fire Marrone after the game...Like they should.
  7. You are absolutely correct. The coaching is terrible on this team. Marrone coaches scared from the opening kickoff every week. And that has rubbed off on the team. We have no swag whatsoever....We don't have great quarterbacking, but the team has gotten worse as the season has progressed. In fact, the team has gotten steadily worse on offense over the entire Marrone era. We are a completely dink and dunk offense. That will not win in the NFL. The Dolphins figured it out real quick. The Jets will do the same. Anybody can coach a dink and dunk offense. It takes absolutely no creativity. Marrone is a knuckle head who would have trouble coming up w a creative offense for a HS team. If we can't get to at least 8-8 he should absolutely get fired. No reason we should not beat the Jets Browns and Raiders. But if we lose to the Jets, and the offense doesn't show up, it will start getting ugly. The players have no loyalty to Marrone, because he hasn't led them anywhere. And he coaches not to lose. A Williams already called out Marrone for that. The players all know what an NFL head coach should be about. They have all played ball their entire lives. Marrone is not that. Again it will get ugly if we lose tom nite. And it should, because 5-5 will become 6-10 real fast. And at that point, the entire organization should be canned. Starting w Russ Brandon. His stench continues to stain this organization thru Whaley Marrone and Hackett... I think my son's varsity football coach in Metro Atlanta could outcoach Marrone.
  8. I agree corner blitz. The Bills offense is retched. It is a dink and dunk bunch of nonsense. Today's NFL is a downfield passing game. Most teams do not even throw the 5-10 yard dumpoffs. Watching Tennessee v Pittsburgh last nite. The Titans had some good play calls for Mettenberger. He looked fairly comfortable, and was throwing most of his passes at least 15 yards down the field. And as for Big Ben, he is always letting it rip down the field. As they said on the NFL Network, you can not score Touchdowns taking 10-15 play drives. Too many chances to make a mistake. You have to get chunks of yardage. I think EJ has not had a real offensive coach since coming into the league. Yes, his accuracy is poor. But I would like to see him w a coach who has a clue about offense. Right now I don't think there is a worse offensive coaching staff in the league than Marrone and company. With a good offensive game plan (and that includes using Mike Williams as more than a cheerleader) we can definitely win w Orton, and quite possibly w EJ. Hopefully, Whaley and Pegula are watching this mess unfold on the field, that has become our offense. And will take the measures necessary to turn things around. We don't need a first round pick. We need an NFL head coach more than anything. Marrone is running an offense from the 1970's. What a joke.
  9. I agree w your assessment of Marrone. He does have our team ready to play. But than screws things up w his very questionable game day decisions. His overall football intellect seems a bit too simplistic, as can be seen in the redundant play calling and formations we use on offense. (and going 5 wide when we were 1st and 10 on the 15 late in Sunday's game is a headscratcher to me) Your previous post about Malzahn coming to Buffalo from Auburn is interesting. My girlfriend's daughter goes to Auburn, so we watch all of their games on TV. He is an offensive genius, who is totally involved w all aspects of the game. He has a completely different demeanor than stone faced Marrone. I would be shocked if he was willing to leave one of the Mecca's of college football for an NFL team that has not made the playoffs since the 20th century ended. And have you heard him speak? The guy has marbles in his mouth. It would take a little while for people to understand him. (Sully would be annoyed) That being said, his football acumen is miles and miles ahead of Doug Marrone's. Go Bills and War Eagle.
  10. I don't agree with a lot of what you post. But I am in agreement w you here Biscuit. This team has 90 sacks since Marrone took over as head coach. That has got to be in the top 3, if not number 1 in the league over that period. Yet our record is a lousy 11-14. That tells me that the offense is not producing, and the coaching staff is not getting nearly enuf out of the talent that we have. I think Marrone stays if we get to 9 wins, and that means beating Miami, Jets, Cleveland and Oakland, and competing hard again Green Bay, NE and Denver. But the 9-7 record still does not put us w the upper echelon teams. And with as good a defense as we have, that really is not a great record. More importantly, does anyone on here think that Marrone has the coaching skill to take us to the next level? I think he is way too conservative in his game management, and has grudges against certain players for no apparent reason which is holding back the team. (see Mike Williams) I personally would be happy to see Marrone be canned w Hackett, and Schwartz be given the head coaching job, especially if he can bring in a top notch O Coordinator. I never hear any of the players talking up Marrone, like he is any sort of genius, great leader, or a great guy to play for. Tonite's game is the benchmark game in the Marrone era in my opinion. If we come out w a solid creative gameplan, and play aggressive and smart throughout, we should win the game. Orton is better than Tannehill, and has to show that tonite. But the team needs to look prepared and motivated. Taking a bunch of penalties, punting on 4th and 1 from the Miami 45, looking lackadaisical and uninspired on National TV. And it will be the downfall of Marrone.
  11. Exactly... If the Bills can fix the O line to just average, Orton will light it up all season. He throws as good an intermediate ball as anyone in the league when given time. The throw to Chandler on 4th and 20 was a thing of beauty. And than to keep firing to Sammy Hogan and than Sammy for the TD, are you kidding me? That was frikin AWESOME!! I haven't seen that from a Bills QB in a long time. Orton has a lot of game, and plays w confidence. This is the chance he has been waiting for. Get some O lineman who can move their feet, and we will compete every week. And btw, Orton knows what it takes to win. Sure he will turn it over, but so does every QB. The good ones keep making plays, regardless of their mistakes. They know its last man standing that wins each week. Doesn't matter how it looks getting there.
  12. You are REALLY stupid. Did you seriously not watch the game? Orton was bringing it the entire game. The guy is a gunslinger. He made one poor throw that was picked. All QB's do that. On the fumble, Cordy Glenn was pathetic. We have not had a QB make the throws that Orton was making to all our receivers since Flutie, and Bledsoe for about two or three starts. EJ is AFRAID to throw it down the seem. At least w Orton we have a chance to move the football on every drive. My goodness, turnovers happen in a game. No risk, no reward. You give Orton some time to throw, and some decent playcalling, and we will be moving the football all season. The receivers did not want to play w EJ. They all get that EJ has no game. You should too. Watch the game again. Orton did not lose the game. With any kind of second half D, we have a great chance of winning this game. And that was all because of Orton leading the Offense.
  13. Orton is the best QB we have had since Flutie. He throws the ball w purpose. We can win w him. The problem is the O line is a train wreck. They get absolutely no push on the run and are slow and unathletic w their pass blocking. The play calling has no creativity or rhythm. Noone runs up the middle on 2 and 11 after running the same play on 1st and 10. We waste more downs w running up the middle than any team in football. On Defense our outside corners of McKelvin and Gilmore have horrible technique. And are constantly torched. Duke should not be playing on an NFL defense. He is a special teamer and nothing more. The back seven have no cover skills, and when r pass rush is not clicking, we are done. Happened against Rivers when he had time, and against Brady the entire game. Ironic, that the run defense is off the charts. Spikes and Bradham are tremendous playing downhill. Really miss Kiko and Bryan Scott because other than A Williams we have noone who can make plays in space on D. Coaching staff is nowhere near good enuf to gameplan in a way to mask our weaknesses, and pressure the opponent on both sides of the ball. Giving up 37 points at home in a very important game is unacceptable. Head coach takes the blame for that. Bottom line, Marrone is not changing the culture of losing on the Bills. He coaches more not to lose, than to win. Not instilling confidence in his players. Get Orton a decent O line, and a coach who can game plan an offense, and he will lead us into the playoffs. Without a first round pick next year, we have to build around Orton. Sign some solid O lineman, CB's and a cover LB. Draft the best TE and S in the second and 3rd rounds and this team will be on its way.
  14. I don't know if EJ is soft. But football is a physical game. And EJ runs like he doesn't want any part of being hit. And that is pathetic for a man that is 6'5 240 pounds. He has not taken on one single defender on any scramble in the four games we have played. His teammates see this. They get pounded, and he just looks to get out of bounds. That is not a winner. Thats a coward. Combine that w his horrible accuracy, zero feel for the QB position, and zero intensity on the field, and you have one hell of QB-NOT!! If Orton plays reasonably well and stays healthy, we have seen the last of EJ leading the Bills. (We can only hope)
  15. Ur just STUPID. EJ was terrible yesterday. What were you watching? He plays w absolutely no confidence in his game. His accuracy is terrible and he is afraid to run. Every QB gets pressure, that's why its not practice. The gunfire is live. And playing on the road is not supposed to be easy. That's why QB's get paid the big bucks. The rest of the offense knows EJ is not an NFL QB. He has brought the team down. Stopped defending the indefensible. A change has to be made at QB. I think you will see a mutiny on the team otherwise.
  16. I think you might be right Roc. EJ is terrible. Simple as that. His accuracy is as bad as any QB in the league. He NEVERS puts the ball where the receiver can make a play after the catch. I am amazed that we spent a 1st round pick on this guy. He has no football sense whatsoever. We take two TO's in the first half when we are inside the Texans 15 yrd line. Than on 3rd and goal from the 13, EJ throws to M Williams at the 5. The ball is low, and dropped. But it doesn't matter, the play had no chance of a TD. Why throw that ball? I see no point in starting EJ any longer if we want to win. 2-2 can turn to 2-6 real quick. If Marrone won't change QB's I would fire him and Hackett, and name Schwartz head coach tomorrow. We have a lot of talent on Defense and at the skill positions on O. You HAVE to have a QB to win in this league. If I am Brandon and Whaley, I sit down tonite w Marrone and dictate the change to Orton. You can tell by the body language of all the receivers that they can't stand playing w EJ. These guys are all pros. They know who has talent. Hopefully knuckle head Marrone gets it quickly. Otherwise he should be fired immediately.
  17. Good analysis. Front seven is much better against the run this year. Dline looks stout. LB's are average. Missing the athleticsm of Kiko. Brown is a high effort guy, but doesn't have Kiko's range. Bradham is servicable and Spikes is a thumper. But lacking playmaker at LB. In the secondary, Graham and A Williams are studs. Leodis is avg at best. And Gilmore has terrible technique and no feel for the position. He is the exact opposite of an Antoine Winfield. Causes him to be out of position a whole bunch. Robey plays his ass off, but is only 5'8,so is limited in coverage. I think Brooks and D Williams have potential. But Brooks always seems to be shaken up. But the D will fight all season long. The real problem is at QB. Sure the Oline wasn't great on Sunday. But ur QB has to make everyone better around him. EJ brings the team down. Has no feel for the game, is afraid to throw the ball down the field. And runs like a 75 year old man in an old timers game. Gino Smith has his flaws. But he is a gamer, and wants to make plays. He is not afraid to throw the rock. And he cares. The guy was in tears after their loss to the Bears when they did not get the ball in the endzone at the end of the game. When ur QB is afraid to throw the ball down the field, has terrible accuracy and doesn't have any feel for the situation around him, you have to make a change. This team can win games, but they need a QB who is not afraid and understands the game. EJ plays the game like he is in a walk thru practice. If the O doesn't get it done in the first half against the Texans, I bring in Orton. No reason EJ has to start. He is not the long term answer at QB anyways. Any fan can see that. He is a taller slightly more athletic version of Kelly Holcomb.
  18. I read a lot of the threads on here, and I really get the feeling that a lot of you are maybe young, and have not watched a lot of football. Or some of you just have no clue to what you are seeing. I have missed one Bills game since 1988. (Honeymoon in Jamaica in 1994 when we lost to the Bears in Chicago) I have watched football with great passion, both college and pro for 40 years. I also heard Colin and Hasselback discussing EJ this morning on the radio, and they were being kind. But the truth is this, and I text this to my brother this morning (who ironically happens to live in San Diego, and is another huge Bills fan) that we are looking at a big collapse if EJ continues to play like he did yesterday. The bottom line is he is lousy. His accuracy is horrible, and he has no feel for the game. He can not throw the medium to deep ball w any accuracy, and other teams no that. Heck, he can't even throw the short pass accurately. Our offense is easy to defend. We aren't running because there are 8 men always crowding the line of scrimmage. Our passing game is all predicated on dink and dunks within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. I personally would give EJ one more game to show what he's got. The Texans have a good defense. If we do not try and continually stretch the field, we will be in for another long day on offense. This team has a lot of talent. Unfortunately, our QB is not talented. He should not be starting in the NFL. The sooner the Bills coaching staff realizes that, the sooner we can move forward. We have to win the Texans game, because after that we have Detroit on the road and home against NE. And 2-1 can turn into 2-4 real quick. If we are 2-4, how many of you are going to want to continue to watch EJ have no clue? We can not waste this season trying to find out if EJ Manuel has what it takes. Because if you have any idea what you are watching every Sunday, you will know that he is severely lacking what it takes to lead an NFL team. Again I would give him Sunday against Houston (even just the lst half) and than its Kyle Orton's chance. All you EJ apologists, watch the rest of the league. We get decent play from Orton, we will have a chance to win EVERY SINGLE WEEK! Because when you can't throw down the field, it is impossible to move the ball w any consistency. And our 2-0 start will end up 5-11,if changes aren't made. It is a farce that the Bills drafted EJ w the 16th pick. He throws the ball like a bad undrafted free agent.
  19. We have SOME talented players. But every NFL team has some talented players. The problem is we have Doug Marrone as head coach and EJ Manuel as our starting QB. Neither of which has done anything in the NFL to warrant any positive attention. If we start out the season playing winning competitive football, we will get noticed. The NFL season is long. You have to win over a period of time, before your team gets noticed. Talk to me half way thru the season. If we are playing competitive football w at least a 5-3 record, we will be discussed. And besides, do you really care what others say about your team? I just want to feel good every Sunday about the team. That has not happened w regularity since the 1999 season. 15 FRIKIN YEARS. When the Bills play well, I love the entire NFL, and can watch any game on TV. Because I know my team is part of the mix. When they are bad---which is most of the time. The season is pure drudgery. Lets hope for competent coaching, and competitive play. We get that (no given, by any stretch) it will be a fun season.
  20. Of course this game is big. It is the season opener. The Bears are not a dominant team. But the Bills, especially on offense have looked horrible this preseason. Marrone has to have the team ready to play this Sunday. It is as simple as that. The team needs to look confident in their game plan and execution from start to finish. That has not been the case since Marrone took over the team. Everything has looked very ragtag and unprofessional. The team looks like they have sleepwalked thru the preseason. Nothing we have seen out of this edition of the Bills has given us any indication that this is a team brimming w confidence and character. And ready to take the next step. I am very curious what the game plan for Sunday will look like. We have NFL quality players, even on offense. It is a matter of the coaching staff putting in a creative and aggressive game plan. That has not happened under the Marrone regime. He has coached scared since taking over the team. That has to end on Sunday. It will start w the game plan. We have to keep the Bears defense off balance. Coaching is huge in the NFL. Marrone has to show the team he can lead, and outcoach an opponent. The jury is out, and the verdict will start coming in on Sunday. Go Bills.
  21. I feel the frustration in what a lot of you are saying after watching EJ last nite. This team looks like they have a lot of talent at pretty much every position, except QB. (Our TE's are certainly not dominant, but have some playmaking ability when healthy) EJ doesn't do anything that would lead us to believe he has any special ability or upside to his game. Sure it is only the first preseason game, but he doesn't carry himself w any swagger. He doesn't look confident and comfortable with his game. The throw down the sideline to Sammy had no chance of being caught. And to have 3 balls batted down within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage should never happen. On the second one, he threw it right into the defenders body. He has to have better vision than that. I think he needs to play the first half of the next 3 preseason games against Carolina, Pittsburg and Tampa. The next two are against tough defenses on the road. It will be a good test for him to show leadership, ability and improvement. (especially after playing so poorly in Pittsburg last year) We have excellent receivers and RB's. And except for Kuanjiou, the Oline looked solid last nite. They can't have EJ hold the team back. And the team needs to have confidence that their QB can make plays, and lead them to victory. A confident positive mindset is huge for this team. As for the backups, Tuel has some moxie to his game. Not physical dominant by any stretch, but he has a little swag and a lot more confidence in what he is doing this year. You can see he is developing. How much upside remains to be seen. But don't count him out as being someone who can lead a team to some wins. (Throwing to TJ Graham has got to be terrible-the guy is brutal. Has no idea how to play receiver, and get any separation or position on his defender. At least Elliott has a big body and some potential.) He definitely has a feel for what the offense is trying to accomplish. As for Thad, all I can say is Ugh! Why the regression is his game from last year is hard to explain. The interception in the end zone was brutally underthrown. Easley was wide open and gets an easy catch if that throw is towards the back of the endzone. He needs to find his game quick, otherwise time to move on. I think the Bills made a big mistake not drafting Murray McCarron or Mettenberger in the later rounds. Its a lot easier molding someone into an NFL QB who has some underlying talent. And the talent on our team at the position right now is unbelievably marginal.
  22. I have had the Sunday Ticket since the middle of the 1996 season. Which I am sure is as long as anyone on this message board. It is great to have. And the Red Zone Channel is awesome to watch when the Bills are not playing. Every year when I get my first Sunday ticket payment, I make one phone call and ask for a discount. They will cut the bill by $60.00 divided over the six payments of the Ticket. The cost really isn't that high in the grand scheme of all the other payments I have to make to support my three kids, two pseudo step kids, ex wife and girlfriend. So I make one phone call and, that's it. But I always feel good even getting the small discount. I guess its the principal of it, vs the actual savings. The season starts in 64 days. Now that is something to really get EXCITED about.
  23. We won nothing w Stevie. He started out strong. But never dominated for any stretch of time. And he was always nicked up. At best, he was an above average receiver. But most of the time he was just average. To be sad about any player leaving from a team that has not made the playoffs in 14 seasons, or even had a winning season in a decade is pathetic. The Whaley regime is decisive in their moves. They have a plan..
  24. Getting Vick would be excellent. Right now he is still better than EJ. But the Bills seem committed to moving forward w EJ, at least into this coming season. With that mindset they had better give him some more weapons. I would try and trade down from 9, unless Sammy Watkins is still on the board which is very doubtful. If we can pick up another 2nd or high third and draft in the mid teens we take the best WR or TE available at that position. We than can take our starting RT in the 2nd, and add the best players available w our extra pick and our 3rd rounder including S, DE, and WR or TE, depending on who we took in the 1st. I am a big Michigan fan. Have been for over 30 years. I watched Taylor Lewan his entire career, and he is good, but not great. I think 6'8 is too tall to play OT effectively. He will get beat to the outside at times, and at that height looks uncoordinated at times. (watch King Dunlop for SD-similar body type) O line has become too finesse at times. I want a 6'5 320 plus pound mauler as my rt tackle. I think Marrone does too. I would not draft him in the first round. With the lack of playmakers we have, there is no way I take a RT w our first pick. However, I would seriously consider Michigan's Jeremy Gallon in the 3rd round at WR. The guy is Steve Smith 2014. Runs great routes, is tough and very quick. Get rid of TJ Graham, and he is a way better option. Don't let his 5'8" size scare you. The guy is a baller. (364 yards receiving against Indiana this year) As for trading Stevie, give me a 3rd round pick and he is gone. He is emminently replacable, always hurt, and not a gamechanger. Sure he has his moments, but he disappears far more often. Just because he doesn't suck is no reason to be in love w his game. Because it is not great. The theme of this draft has to be playmakers. And Btw Whaley's moves in free agency were excellent. Brandon Spikes is a BAD DUDE!!
  25. I agree. And more than that, the rhetoric on this board is ridiculous getting all worked up about a player who is 5'11" tall at best. Sure he is a good player. But we haven't won a thing w Jarius Byrd on the roster for the past 5 years. If he doesn't want to sign for what the Bills are offering him, let him walk. Whether Byrd stays or goes will have minimal bearing on how well this team does next season. It all depends on how well our QB's play. Safety's do NOT dominate games in the NFL any longer. We should take the money that Byrd does not want and find some excellent weapons to help our QB play. That includes WR, TE and O line. That is where our money needs to go. Paying Byrd 10 mill/year when he doesn't even want to be here is just plain ludicrous. Lets give the front office a chance to see how they play the upcoming free agency. Whaley is no dummy. I am sure that the Bills have contingency plans for Byrd's leaving. Just way too much talk about a football player who doesn't want to be a Buffalo Bill. Screw him...
