Did Carrington get moved back to OLB? I thought he was going to be a DE.

I can only assume that Mark Anderson is finished because it doesn't seem to make any sense to cut him at this point.

Lawson can't rush the passer. Hughes is a longshot. Mario Williams is a monster but he also ended 2010 and 2011 on IR. Seems like all the natural pass rush from the key pass rush position is expected to come from Williams.

NFL.com reports he passed his physical with the Bills before being released...The Cheatriots will likely sign him to the vet minimum, absorb as much intel on our offence and defence and cut him late into preseason.

Will you please give me the winning lottery numbers? 'Cause you sure seem to think you know the future.

Ahhh, I have such fond memories of the original Mark Anderson signing thread. Specifically when I said we overpaid for an overrated situational pass rusher, and half the board freaked on me. Suck it, Kook-Aid drinkers :P

Hairston on PUP is a concern.

Some posters on this board are such small people...."look I was right na na na"

Lawson wasnt brought in to rush the passer, he was brought in to cover over the middle, something he is very good at and this team had been very bad at.

We have plenty of guys who can get to the QB now, it was never about personnel as much as it was a terrible staff, terrible schemes, and terrible game planning. Dareus and Kyle will get a lot of push in an attack style, Alan Branch is there to help clog up blockers and running lanes, Mario will be moved all over the field to bring pressure, Bradham is fast and suited to attack, Hughes is considered a pass rush specialist and showed some potential finally last year in Indy and I think has a chance excel in that role with all the other talent up front here, and Kiko has great instincts and can both cover and blitz...plus Carrington shown a lot of potential last year and I think will be a key player on this D this year under Pettine, not just a ST blocking ace.

For once, I am not worried about generating pressure, mostly because I am that confident in the attack style that Pettine will bring and utilizing the talents here and bringing blitz packages in. It was like Wanny was deathly allergic to a blitz.

you might be closest the the heart of the matter except for that wanny thing.

Pettine is not a big blitzer he is pressure at opportune moments when the gears are cogged smoothly.

LBs are my favorite variable this year. big turnover along with new attitude.

Carrington will no longer be subject to play a stand up OLB ever again. praise the heavens

Couldnt agree more. Let me expand on my original comment too to be clear by what I meant by pressure for others...Pettine doesnt run a blitz all out kind of scheme, but he has a knack for generating pressure with multiple looks and blitzing at the right moments like you said. Pettine's scheme is designed to create pressure and he isnt afraid to blitz, where asWanny on the other hand ran the most vanilla D I have ever seen, never made any adjustments, let the offense of the opponent dictate his defense, and in obvious blitz situations never blitzed.

Ian Rapoport@RapSheet1h

On #Bills & Mark Anderson: I'm told he passed his physical, then was cut. We'll see how it's listed. Knee believed to be good enough to play

Yes he did. http://blogs.buffalo...ack-practicing/

I agree his cut wasn't motivated by money, but don't discount the fact that they can absorb his dead money this year (instead of prorating it over the next three).

Every penny is gonna help next year when they are going to be up against the cap with a TON of contracts expiring.

From Bills Daily:

Anderson Released: The Bills have made a couple of roster moves before training camp gets underway. They released Mark Anderson and placed Chris Hairston on the PUP list. Anderson played in just five games in his one season with the Bills after signing a four year $21 Million contract which he earned just over $8 Million of. He reportedly past his physical but he has struggled all spring overcoming his injury from last season and didn't fit in to Mike Pettine's scheme.

Let me clarify...I know what kind of D Pettine runs, and I know its not a blitz every down scheme (which does not work in todays NFL by any means). The point is that Pettine's scheme is designed to create pressure and he isnt afraid to blitz. Where as Wanny on the other hand ran the most vanilla D I have ever seen, never made any adjustments, let the offense of the opponent dictate his defense, and in obvious blitz situations never blitzed.

your fur is up .

Your point is correct .

Wannstadt was the worst nightmare i have stared at in years, amazed. Befuddled then amazed.

I was clarifying our Coach's trends not your ability to perceive his tendencies.

Are you suggesting Nix didn't sign Anderson because he was a good fit (at the time) in Wanny's "four-man plain vanilla pass rush" defensive scheme?

Or that Whaley cutting him now that Pettine's "jail house riot / player must be able to handle multiple roles" scheme is a poor decision?

Or that you just like to B word about things?

I am suggesting that blaming this on Nix is asinine. Sorry if you have difficulty with reading comprehension.

The Jets have struggled to put pressure on opposing QB's under Pettine the past couple seasons. I am not saying you should worry, but perhaps look at the facts. It will be interesting to see what Pettine has in store but I think that in third and long situations you want to be able to send true pass rushers.

True, the Jets have struggled to put pressure on opposing QB's. Which makes their defensive rankings all the more impressive. But they never had a pass rusher like Mario.

stop the bus. what ? Oh you mean the pass rusher we wish/thought/hoped he was ?

Kyle creates more havoc on two torn achilles then Mario did .

Go Blatnick !!!
