Kyle Williams placed on IR

It ain't a matter of "if", it's "when" the Bills place Kyle on IR, what is their short term plan and longer term plan? Do they bring in a player thatcan play and contrigute right now, or do they just fill a roster spot?

What I think we know...

1) Kyle cannot be an everydown NT in the NFL, assuming he can return to form next season. Bills are paying big money for him, so he has to play somewhere, DE?

2) Torrell Troup sucks. When you are drafted in the second round and you ain't contributing significantly, it's time to cut your losses.

3) George Edwards is clueless. He doesn't know WTF defesnse to play... 3-4, 4-3, or 5-2 (what they played against the Skins a week ago). Two years into a supposed transition to the 3-4 and they still don't have a legitimate NT or outside LB. "Lights Out" is done and he ain't comin back.

What I think will happen...

1) short term, Bills seem to be thin at OLB. Batten is the only legitimate OLB, although Moats has done time there with so-so results. Kelsay ain't an OLB he's a 4-3 DE and when he has to drop back in coverage it's a disaster. So, my guess an OLB will be added when Kyle goes on IR and be evaluated over the latter part of the season.

2) Best case scenario, the Bills go 4-4 down the stretch and miss the playoffs.

3) George Edwards gets canned at the end of the season and Wanny takes over as the DC. I'm more than OK with canning Edwards... he never should have been hired for the DC position. But, Wanny being promoted means you're looking at going back to the 4-3... tha's all Wanny knows....plus I've never been a fan of Wanny... I don't think he's all he's been made out to be. But, when Edwards gets canned, I don't see the Bills considering anyone but Wanny because I believer the hired him as Asst Head coach and brought him in here specifically because they knew Edwards was way in over his head.

4) With Wanny at the helm as DC, if Kyle comes back next year fully recovered, you'll probably see Darius & Kyle inside, Kelsay at one DE spot and the other either through the draft of free agency... someone with pass rushing skills in the 260 lb. range. You'll probably continue to see Barnett in the middle backed up by Sheppard. The two outside LBs will likely be aquired via free agency and the draft. Basically a continual rebuild

The most disappointing thing is, over the past 4-5 years of the Bills consistently ranked in the bottom third on defense (offense too until this season) you'd have thought they would have addressed that by now. But, drafting schmucks like Whitner at #8, then going out on a limb for McCargo, then McKelvin at #11, Troup in the 2nd round, wasting a #13 on Maybin, a #9 on Spliller, and then only one of your draft picks this year is making a significant contribution gives any fan pause that the Bills FO are serious about fielding a competitive team.... just gimmick after gimmick (T.O., Merriman, Spiller to sell a freakin ticket.

Personally, I'd like to see both Wanny and Edwards gone and once and for all make the complete swith to the 3-4. Bring in a real 3-4 DC (Man Gina's still out there) and a real NT and a couple of 3-4 OLBs.

I don't think it's achilles unless someone has confirmed it....

Why didn't he see a specialist like three months ago?

Come on people.... this was our best player last year, struggling with a foot injury all year and he hasn't seen the best guy in the world yet?

Lets get on the ball. If its IR then that opens a roster spot, (go get the best special teamer available and sit Brad Smith for the kickoff coverage teams please) if it's surgery then do it tomorrow and get him ready for summer training camp, if it's a 'wait and see how he responds to treatment and maybe he can take a numbing shot or something' if we need him playoff time then that's okay too, but we seem to be slow and secretive about everything.

What is this the Donahoe days all over again?

Get Kyle on your team website and have him explain exactly what's happening, how it feels and the options. two minute clip, end the confusion...

probably the same thing Antonio Gates had, plantar fascitis...Your feet can feel fine, go play a series, sit down, stand up off the bench with excuicating pain. Happens to Overweight people and those who put too much stress on their feet.

Not one of Skooby's sources I hope? ;-) Wouldn't a problem with an Achilles be different from a foot problem?

The Achilles Tendon attaches in the back of the heel (so a bone spur in the back heel which is pretty common) could effect the Achilles Tendon.

I am afraid of williams career being in jeopardy, forget this year...

Foot injuries have derailed quite a few players including merriman and forsberg in the nhl...

Moreso than him not being able to play again I worry it will be a recurring injury and/or limit his effectiveness when he returns...

Could be a blessing in disguise. We're now good enough that the front office should show attention to free agency, and now may be bad enough to help our draft status, wich we really need another good one. I'm not giving up on this year, but its been good enough to be positive with whatever happens next......

Crap. Well, it's an opportunity for the young guys to step up. Dareus, Troup and Heard are more of the wide body traditional NT for a 3-4 anyway so lets see who steps up. KW wasn't having his usual impact anyway and now we know why. Let him heal completely for next season and let the kids take the sandbox for the rest of the season. KW is only 28 and should have plenty of gas in the tank once he's healed up.

Godd3#!@n it.

They've now lost Kyle and Merriman for the season, and Bell for all intents and purposes is not going to contribute this year. Those are huge losses for this team. Every freaking year it's like this.

Not as bad as you state it.

If Hairston comes back and plays out the season, I dont think we will miss Bell much.

Merriman wasn't contributing much anyway so no great loss

Kyle will always be missed.
