  1. Beane is not going to spend big bucks, and the guys who fit his budget are not going to make much difference. Solomon is going to get a chance to contribute as a pass rusher, as will Toohill.
  2. I don't presume to have a clue about Hyde is going to do. I know, the longer he takes to make up his mind, the more pressure it creates for the Bills, who would like know in training camp what they have at safety.
  3. I agree, it will be hard for Hamlin to make this team. Delaney has shortcomings, but he's managed to hang around the league and worked his way up from a special teamer to a guy who can start in a pinch. He's even got a little speed with a sub -4.5 40. I think the Bills could stand to upgrade the depth at safety some more (and find another quality starter too) but I think they can probably get by with this group at safety in 2024.
  4. The fact that it's a night game makes a big difference for Buffalo. Buffalo won't have to sit on a sideline in the sun where it feels like it's well over 100 degrees. While Miami is accustomed to the heat and humidity, at least conditions on the sideline will be identical for both teams.
  5. Elam seems like a reasonable answer here. The only caveat is that he's got two solid CBs ahead of him on the outside, so the odds of him being a starter, especially early on are slim. The coaching staff may be reluctant to bench a good starter even if there is someone on the bench who might prove to be better eventually
  6. Hackett may draw up the plays, but I think on game day it's going to be Aaron Rodgers calling the shots as long as he's healthy.
  7. I think it is clear that there were players who could have slipped in round 1 that Buffalo would have been glad to pick at #28. That just tells me that Beane is adaptable. It one scenario doesn't work out, he has a plan B and plan C ready to implement as needed. Coleman was plan B, but that's OK. That's the way the draft works, especially for teams drafting at the end of the first round.
  8. I think one of the characteristics Buffalo really liked about Carter was his ability to anticipate the snap count. He supposedly has a really quick first step. That is more reminiscent of Kyle Williams from the same draft class as McCargo.
  9. Well, if the Bills want to bring him in to compete, there are worse WRs on the roster now that they can drop. Just don't spend too much money to sign him.
  10. I'm not expecting a trade, so I am not into trying to speculate on what would be a good one. I don't think Beane is interested either in spending a lot of future draft capital or in doing heavy duty contract renegotiations to fit a high priced trade acquisition under the cap. A value acquisition is not going to make an appreciable difference. in the passing offense. Beane is hoping for some development and upside surprise in the receivers Buffalo has now, and is planning on having the ability to make major roster changes next off season if necessary.
  11. He won't make the 53 man squad, but his measurables are pretty good and if he can do something on the field I think he has a decent shot at making the PS.
  12. For one thing, I think it is pretty obvious that that when the Bills use three receivers, Shakir will be on the field most of the time. That will be a healthy percentage of offensive snaps though I couldn't say what that percentage will be. Most of the rest of those snaps will be with two TEs to get both Knox and Kincaid on the field at the same time. The Bills will only use a fullback for a handful of snaps. When the Bills use two receivers, it's probably going to be more complicated. Unless Coleman really lights it up, I think the Bills may almost use a WR by committee approach, using three receivers for the two spots. It'll be Shakir and Samuel some of the time. Shakir and Coleman some of the time and Samuel and Coleman some of the time. The balance will depend on how the receivers perform and maybe Brady's preferences for the way they work together.
  13. I thought Gore Jr. is listed at 5'8" He's like Devin Singletary size, but a bit lighter and a little less wiggle.
  14. I think Davis is a solid addition. I'm not sure how the running back room fits together. Davis is a do everything back, but he's the slowest RB in the running back room, including Darrynton Evans. I don't see Davis ever taking over as the #1 back as some do. Though Cook is light, he's shown he can run between the tackles. My guess is that Cook continues to start and the three top RBs are all going to get their touches. If one of them gets hot, maybe Brady will let the offense ride him for a while. The Bills may give Davis a shot at proving what he can do in short yardage situations. Until proven other wise, Josh Allen is the best short yardage back. I think the Bills would like to find a reliable alternative. That wouldn't be Davis' only role, of course, but if he can do it, it would give the Bills something they could really use.
  15. 1. Keon Coleman - I think it is obvious Buffalo plans to start him a WR. I don't know if he'll be a star, especially right away, but with Josh Alan as QB, he's going to get his chances. 2. Cole Bishop - Yes, he should be a starter by mid-season if not sooner. He's got the skill set to be a ten year starter. 3. Dewayne Carter - I'm wondering if he's going to make us think of Harrison Phillips. Isn't he supposed to Kyle Williams like snap anticipation ability. Not super athletic, but seems to be the kind of player who gets the most out of what he has. 4. Ray Davis - He's going to be a role player early on. I'm guessing he's average maybe 10 carries a game early in his career and help keep Cook fresh. 5. Sedrick Van Pran - I agree, he will start at some point. I would not rule out Buffalo moving McGovern back to guard and starting Van Pran this season. 5. Edufuan Ulofoshio - As you say, a special teamer in the near term. The Bills will teach him how to play linebacker in their system. I don't know whether the focus will be at the Mike position or the Will spot. 5. Javon Soloman - I think this is kind of a fun pick. I think he's going to have a role both on special teams and as a situational pass rusher on defense. I also think he's got more potential to surprise on the upside than most are giving him credit for. 6. Tylan Grable - Practice squad for a year or two. Then we'll see. 6. Daequan Hardy - Yes, Taron Johnso is the undisputed starter at slot cornerback, but it would be nice if he had a reliable backup who could take enough reps to keep him fresh and provide some insurance in case of injury. I think that's what Buffalo is hoping for in addition to Hardy's special teams contribution. 7. Travis Clayton - I agree he's a fun draft pick. I'm thinking PS for at least two years and then throw him into the mix at tackle. His freaky athleticism has got to be giving Beane some pleasant dreams though.
  16. Meanwhile, Marv Levy turns 99 on August 3.
  17. I freely admit to being woefully ignorant of the actual ranking of draft prospects. Keon Coleman was not the wide receiver I was hoping the Bills would end up picking, but I spent all of about five minutes being disappointed. He's the new WR for my Bills. So, what's good about him? He's smart, and physical. He's very young with the opportunity to learn and get better, and he might not be as slow as his combine 40 time suggests. So, I'm ready to wait and see what he can do. No point in wallowing in disappointment.
  18. I hadn't really thought about it. If I'm Mike Tomlin, I start Fields. I think Wilson is done as a starter who can win games consistently.
  19. I understand Rice's defense in the car accident was to be based on the presumption that he had a clean record and was not the kind of person who gets in trouble. Oops!
  20. Do you have information to suggest Hyde's return is going to happen? For my part, I think he's probably done.
  21. Yeah, if someone gave me Brady's John Hancock or Brady gave it to me himself, I'd happily accept it. It's got to be worth something on Ebay.
  22. The Bills haven't given up on Elam yet, and neither have I. This season could be his last hurrah though unless the light comes on. If he comes through and Jamarcus Ingram can also become a reliable backup at least, the Bills should be set.
  23. Buffalo's defensive scheme is very complex and demands a great deal mentally from its safeties. That might be the thing that keeps Bishop from starting day one. I do expect he'll be a starter before the season progresses very far though.
  24. I don't think there is any way to know for certain. Buffalo needs to at least one, and probably 2 or 3 of their WRs to have his best season ever for this to be a successful season. That includes Coleman, the receivers who are holdovers from last season, and off-season free agent signings. That means, until or unless it happens, there will be doubt about whether or not it's enough.
