  1. Buffalo played a defensive tackle, DeForrest Buckner, on Sunday who is very similar to Chris Jones. I think they handled it pretty well.
  2. I think the Bills management and coaches had a higher opinion of what the team could do this season than those outside of OBD, especially compared to national pundits.
  3. You're right. Jerry does have a VP of Player Personnel he could fire as a handy scape goat.
  4. There is good news for Buffalo on several fronts when KC comes to town next Sunday. One, Buffalo faced a team today that has a defensive line that resembles KC's in some ways. In particular, DeForrest Bruckner is about as close as you'll find to a clone of Chris Jones as you'll find in the league. Second, Buffalo's major weakness on defense is big time running backs. KC is not weak at RB. Kareem Hunt is a proven winner who can get tough yards and catch passes, but he's not the physical freak with size to truck linebackers like Derrick Henry or speed to outrun DBs like Jonathon Taylor possesses. Buffalo should be OK with their 4-2-5 personnel package defending the run. Hopefully Cooper will be back for KC though it sounds like Coleman is going to miss another week. Also, hopefully, Kincaid's injury doesn't keep him out of the KC game.
  5. I would not be at all surprised if McCarthy is fired. The GM could be, but he is mostly a figurehead IMO. Jerry Jones makes most of the big personnel decisions. That means the team is likely to remain dysfunctional regardless of who is the coach and GM.
  6. Mike McCarthy's seat must be getting real hot down in big D. The Cowboys look completely inept. The Eagles are a good team but they aren't good enough to do to Dallas what they are doing just on their own merit. Yes, Prescott is out, but Dallas is bad.
  7. Happy with the win. I'd like to see them play cleaner. Too many penalties on the O-line. Need to take better care of the ball. Do that and this team beats KC next week without a lot of difficulty.
  8. Shortly after the bye, I expect we'll go on watch for his return.
  9. Makes sense. Regardless of what Logue's eventual upside may be, Buffalo needs production from the defensive tackle position now, and they are more likely to get at least some production from the veterans they just signed than the kid Logue. They can offer Logue a futures contract after the season if he's still a free agent at that point.
  10. Go Bungles. I like the idea of Pittsburgh winning the division. Baltimore is ahead of the Bungles, so a Bungle win helps even things out and makes the path for Pittsburgh easier.
  11. Suppose Brady does take the New Orleans gig, who is next in line for Bills OC. Another poster suggested Daboll. He's definitely on the hot seat in New York but hasn't been fired yet. Would he be the top choice of most posters here? Is there another name that Bills fans like, who is likely to be available if Daboll is not?
  12. A fine is a reasonable response. Poyer's comment was sad, however. "It was a clean hit, I aimed for the chest." The video shows Poyer left his feet and clearly appeared to be aiming for the head. A dirty play every day of the week.
  13. I wonder what the cost differential would be between re-signing Douglas and picking up Elam's 5th year option, and potentially signing Elam to a new deal. The fact that he's a first round pick tends to make him pretty expensive.
  14. The old axiom is that refs could call and offensive hold on every play, but these were both very weak calls, and for it to happen on consecutive plays is inexcusable. I assume the Bills will point this out to the league and lodge a complaint.
  15. I don't think McDermott had much to lose under the circumstances.
  16. No mystery. As Gunner Bill points out, Elam is pretty much limited to being an outside CB. Douglas and Benford are an excellent tandem. McDermott is always going to opt not to fix something that isn't broke. It is highly likely that Buffalo does not pick up his fifth year option and Elam goes on to start for another team.
  17. Mostert and Achane are good running backs. Paying the Dolphins is a bit of a catch 22. If you play 8 in the box Tyreek Hill might eat you alive. If you play with a light box, Mostert and Achane can gash you. Miami has not always taken advantage of this reality because McDaniel loves the passing game and will get away from the run game even when it's working. He got smarter against the Bills. Next year when Buffalo plays Miami, they need to get better play from their defensive line.
  18. It sure has been frustrating to watch the Bills defense today.
  19. Dethroning KC as the top seed is a long shot. There is a better chance KC loses to somebody in the playoffs before Buffalo would have to play them, and Buffalo gets home field that way.
  20. LOL Intellectually, I'm glad the Jets won. Emotionally, I felt good when the Jets played poorly.
  21. Josh may be tempted to hold the ball in one hand because his hands are so big. I'd like it if he were a bit more careful though.
  22. Jets. At this point, we assume the Jets are far enough out of the AFCEast title race that for them to have to get back in would require a significant collapse from the Bills. Should that happen, seeding in the playoffs is the least of Buffalo's concerns. Therefore, it is in Buffalo's best interest for Houston to lose, thus making it a bit easier for Buffalo to get past Houston in the standings, assuming Buffalo is competitive in the race for a home game or two, if not a bye in the playoffs and they move through the second half of the season.
  23. Father Time is undefeated. Rodgers might fool himself for a bit, but he doesn't stand a chance.
  24. Because he was on IR designated to return, the team had a window to activate him. The Bills have 3 RBs on the roster (and a FB) that they like and don't want to spend another roster spot to add Evans to the 53 man roster. I would not be surprised if the Bills give Evans the opportunity to sign on with the PS unless he gets signed by another team.
  25. Early on, Elam struggled in part because his strength is man coverage and Buffalo is primarily a zone team. I think he can probably play now and be effective, though he needs to get on the field both to show it and get better. His problem now is mostly McDermott's philosophy ("If it ain't broke, don't fix it."). Benford and Douglas are one of the better CB duos in the league. Barring injury, McDermott has no motive to put Elam in. The Bills rotate D-linemen, not CBs.
