I was wondering if the ring has "Cheifs" on it. That would have been hilarious.

Cool. It's always reassuring when players and former players turn out to be regular guys. As far as you grandson's feet are concerned, shoe size is not predictive or one's ultimate height. I reached my full height in 9th grade. a shade under 5'11." I wore (and still wear) size 13 shoes. -
Joey Bosa to Bills Trade Proposal (Speculation)
BigAl2526 replied to Kincaid Kool-Aid's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not getting excited over the possibility. I understand the Chargers recently redid his contract to make it more cap friendly, but I don't know the terms. He is undeniably talented, but also undeniably injury prone. If it happens, OK, but we'll probably be spending a ***** of time an energy worrying about his health. -
I would like to have seen Araiza in a Bills uniform, but when the Bills released him, he became a free agent. Even if everybody in the country figures the Bills had no choice but to cut him after the rape accusation surfaced, Araiza may still have had some hard feelings toward the Bills. He may well have told his agent that unless the Bills outbid everybody else for his services by a wide margin he didn't want to sign with the Bills.

Bass struggling at minicamp (and now at training camp)
BigAl2526 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
It does put the Bills in a tough spot. Of course, Bass has the leg. A good part of kicking is mental. Bass is a bit rattled now. He could get things fixed tomorrow, or not. The Bills don't have to cut bait right now, but they need to have a plan B in place if it becomes clear Bass's struggles seem likely to continue. The free agent punter they picked up is also a place kicker. If they can identify a potential holder, they could have him serve both as punter and kicker. It's worth thinking about. -
I think this was entirely to be expected, and not a reason to worry. As we all know, Shakir is the only receiver on the roster who has caught a pass from Josh Allen in a game. Buffalo has to learn what they have in all the new guys on the roster and how they might click with Josh. This was just a taste. We're going to see more at the start of training camp. As training camp moves on, the pecking order among the receivers will iron itself out and the focus will gradually shift to Josh developing chemistry with the top three or four receivers. It's not ideal. It would be much better if the receiving group was set at the top four spots and Josh already had some chemistry. going into training camp. It's not reassuring, but it's going to be interesting to watch the story unfold.

Which battle in camp are you watching the closest?

I think the biggest question on the O-line is how quickly Sedrick Van Pran Granger can develop as a rookie. Otherwise, I think the O-line is pretty well set with Dawkins-Edwards-McGovern-Torrence-Brown. If Van Pran Granger develops quickly, he could push McGovern back to guard and Edwards back to the bench, but that's about the only drama I see. I think it will be interesting to see how the receiving group shakes out. Yes, there are some locks like Coleman, Shakir, Samuel and Scantling. After that, it gets interesting. Some think Mack Hollins is a lock or close to it, but it sounds like Chase Claypool might force the Bills to give him some serious consideration. Shorter is pretty athletic for a big guy, and one of the speedy smurfs (Hamler and Isabella) could make a case for a role too. I think the Bills are likely to carry 6 receivers and somebody could be a real tough cut. Safety is probably the position at which there are the most questions. Cole Bishop is a promising rookie, but safety is a mentally challenging position in the Bills' defense and one wonders if any rookie can step in and perform well as a starter. Rapp is savvy enough and physical, but he can be a liability in coverage because of his lack of speed. I like the pickup of Mike Edwards and I hope it can compare to the free agent signing of Poyer or Hyde a few years back. We've heard more positives out of the OTAs on Hamlin than any of us expected. He's not ever going to be a starter, but I wonder if he's finally ready to become a decent backup. I think he and Delaney will battle for a roster spot. I think linebacker will be pretty interesting. Of course, Milano and Bernard seem set as starters, but there is a lot of talent behind them. Specter looked like he belongs on the field when he played last season. Dorian Williams had some rookie issues last season, but he's kind of a freaky athlete and if he matures like Bernard did from his rookie to his sophomore season he could be a very high quality depth player. Deion Jones and Morrow are quality backups, especially if Jones can turn back the clock a bit. I think probably Morrow and Jones will be fighting for the fifth and final roster spot while Andreeson and Ulofoshio are fighting for a PS spot. At cornerback, the biggest question I see is whether Elam can justify his continued presence on the team and perhaps push for some reps in relief of the starters. -
If more of the top players are staying in school rather than coming out early, it could hurt the talent level at the top of the draft for a year or two, but it will balance out. In a year or two the effect could end up being fewer underclassmen in the early rounds of the draft. I don't think that is a huge deal.

Matt Parrino - "Claypool has been most consistent WR during OTAs"
BigAl2526 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hopefully, this says more about Claypool, his renewed attitude and maturity combined with his obvious physical skills, than the efforts of the other receivers on the roster. I'm not surprised that Coleman has had some rookie issues with getting open versus NFL level CBs, but I haven't heard much of anything about the rest of the receivers. -
Chase Claypool's nickname? We need one

The biggest name change in the Bills' roster is the trade of Diggs. PFF discusses it a bit in naming the receiver group as the biggest weakness of the Bills. They note that the Bills traded Diggs and got little in return. The author never thinks to ask why Beane made that trade. To read the article, you might think it is simply a case of Beane got fleeced. So, why did Beane do the trade? He didn't have to. He didn't do it to help the cap, at least not this year. The trade forced the Bills to eat a bunch of dead cap dollars, though eating those dollars this season probably helps the Bills with respect to the cap next season. There is no indication that Diggs demanded a trade. Obviously, Beane thought that Diggs had become a distraction. Whether his decline in production late in the season was due to Diggs himself or to the way that Brady was using him and calling the offense probably doesn't matter. It probably was not going to change. The Bills didn't need Diggs to continue with his cryptic online comments. If he'd remained a Bill and his production continued to look like late 2023, there's not much doubt the Bills would have had to deal a lot more with Diggs' dark side. We would have seen what a real Diggs distraction was like. It's true that the loss of Diggs means there is no guaranteed go to guy among the WRs, but Brady's offense doesn't seem like having one is a high priority. There are lots of questions that need answering in the passing game, but the answers might not be all that depressing for Bills fans by the time we get deep into the season.

I think the Bills will get more from Von Miller than they did last season. He's not going to try and be an iron man though. If he can play 30% to 40% of the defensive snaps and get 8 or 9 sacks I would be ecstatic.

It's early. Coleman is not especially fast, so he has to use other things to get open. NFL CBs on average are going to know a lot more technique in countering those tricks. Coleman is going to have to learn greater subtlety, up his game on fakes, double moves etc. We can't rule out the possibility he'll bust, but it's way too early for us to be trying to etch out his future in stone. -
Between needing room to sign Steveson and that rookie's ability to hold effectively on field goal attempts, Haack's fate was pretty much sealed. It that rookie shows he can punt effectively, I think Martin's days are numbered too.

Anyone Want To Take A Vet Minimum Flier On Yannick Ngakoue?
BigAl2526 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
he's a pass rusher only, and a significant liability in run defense. I rather take a chance on a youngster (Javon Solomon) adding to the pass rush and hoping that he can learn to defend against the run too. -
Simple! Buffalo drafted O J Simpson. That was pre scum bag O J Simpson and by the time Simpson revealed he was a scumbag my loyalty had long since transferred to the Bills.

I saw a USA Today article about that. The technicality was that Minnesota law stated that if the woman was drunk by her own consent, she could not accuse the men of rape. It was a stupid law and Minnesota struck it down two years later. My reaction is to ask, "Who is Gabe Steveson now? Is he the same person now that he was 5 years ago? It was a cruel, stupid and criminal thing that Steveson did five years ago and the law that allowed him to get away with it was stupid and wrong. However, I don't think it is the job of the NFL to rectify the shortcomings of a bad state law. I don't like to see any team sign scumbag players, but neither do I want to continue to punish players whose character may have changed since they did the terrible thing they were accused of doing. I think I have to trust my Bills to do their due diligence and look into the current character of the players they keep on and add to their roster, and make the right decision on an individual basis.

Kaiir Elam discussing the last 2 years & his struggles...
BigAl2526 replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm hopeful that Elam is going to stick with the team. Playing time may be tough to come by though. Rasul Douglas is a very good CB and we all can see how solid Benford has been. I think Elam is going to get most of his reps when opposing teams play with 4 receivers on the field. Otherwise, he'll be mostly stuck on the bench barring injury to Benford or Douglas.
