  1. I'm not expecting a trade, so I am not into trying to speculate on what would be a good one. I don't think Beane is interested either in spending a lot of future draft capital or in doing heavy duty contract renegotiations to fit a high priced trade acquisition under the cap. A value acquisition is not going to make an appreciable difference. in the passing offense. Beane is hoping for some development and upside surprise in the receivers Buffalo has now, and is planning on having the ability to make major roster changes next off season if necessary.
  2. He won't make the 53 man squad, but his measurables are pretty good and if he can do something on the field I think he has a decent shot at making the PS.
  3. For one thing, I think it is pretty obvious that that when the Bills use three receivers, Shakir will be on the field most of the time. That will be a healthy percentage of offensive snaps though I couldn't say what that percentage will be. Most of the rest of those snaps will be with two TEs to get both Knox and Kincaid on the field at the same time. The Bills will only use a fullback for a handful of snaps. When the Bills use two receivers, it's probably going to be more complicated. Unless Coleman really lights it up, I think the Bills may almost use a WR by committee approach, using three receivers for the two spots. It'll be Shakir and Samuel some of the time. Shakir and Coleman some of the time and Samuel and Coleman some of the time. The balance will depend on how the receivers perform and maybe Brady's preferences for the way they work together.
  4. I thought Gore Jr. is listed at 5'8" He's like Devin Singletary size, but a bit lighter and a little less wiggle.
  5. I think Davis is a solid addition. I'm not sure how the running back room fits together. Davis is a do everything back, but he's the slowest RB in the running back room, including Darrynton Evans. I don't see Davis ever taking over as the #1 back as some do. Though Cook is light, he's shown he can run between the tackles. My guess is that Cook continues to start and the three top RBs are all going to get their touches. If one of them gets hot, maybe Brady will let the offense ride him for a while. The Bills may give Davis a shot at proving what he can do in short yardage situations. Until proven other wise, Josh Allen is the best short yardage back. I think the Bills would like to find a reliable alternative. That wouldn't be Davis' only role, of course, but if he can do it, it would give the Bills something they could really use.
  6. 1. Keon Coleman - I think it is obvious Buffalo plans to start him a WR. I don't know if he'll be a star, especially right away, but with Josh Alan as QB, he's going to get his chances. 2. Cole Bishop - Yes, he should be a starter by mid-season if not sooner. He's got the skill set to be a ten year starter. 3. Dewayne Carter - I'm wondering if he's going to make us think of Harrison Phillips. Isn't he supposed to Kyle Williams like snap anticipation ability. Not super athletic, but seems to be the kind of player who gets the most out of what he has. 4. Ray Davis - He's going to be a role player early on. I'm guessing he's average maybe 10 carries a game early in his career and help keep Cook fresh. 5. Sedrick Van Pran - I agree, he will start at some point. I would not rule out Buffalo moving McGovern back to guard and starting Van Pran this season. 5. Edufuan Ulofoshio - As you say, a special teamer in the near term. The Bills will teach him how to play linebacker in their system. I don't know whether the focus will be at the Mike position or the Will spot. 5. Javon Soloman - I think this is kind of a fun pick. I think he's going to have a role both on special teams and as a situational pass rusher on defense. I also think he's got more potential to surprise on the upside than most are giving him credit for. 6. Tylan Grable - Practice squad for a year or two. Then we'll see. 6. Daequan Hardy - Yes, Taron Johnso is the undisputed starter at slot cornerback, but it would be nice if he had a reliable backup who could take enough reps to keep him fresh and provide some insurance in case of injury. I think that's what Buffalo is hoping for in addition to Hardy's special teams contribution. 7. Travis Clayton - I agree he's a fun draft pick. I'm thinking PS for at least two years and then throw him into the mix at tackle. His freaky athleticism has got to be giving Beane some pleasant dreams though.
  7. Meanwhile, Marv Levy turns 99 on August 3.
  8. I freely admit to being woefully ignorant of the actual ranking of draft prospects. Keon Coleman was not the wide receiver I was hoping the Bills would end up picking, but I spent all of about five minutes being disappointed. He's the new WR for my Bills. So, what's good about him? He's smart, and physical. He's very young with the opportunity to learn and get better, and he might not be as slow as his combine 40 time suggests. So, I'm ready to wait and see what he can do. No point in wallowing in disappointment.
  9. I hadn't really thought about it. If I'm Mike Tomlin, I start Fields. I think Wilson is done as a starter who can win games consistently.
  10. I understand Rice's defense in the car accident was to be based on the presumption that he had a clean record and was not the kind of person who gets in trouble. Oops!
  11. Do you have information to suggest Hyde's return is going to happen? For my part, I think he's probably done.
  12. Yeah, if someone gave me Brady's John Hancock or Brady gave it to me himself, I'd happily accept it. It's got to be worth something on Ebay.
  13. The Bills haven't given up on Elam yet, and neither have I. This season could be his last hurrah though unless the light comes on. If he comes through and Jamarcus Ingram can also become a reliable backup at least, the Bills should be set.
  14. Buffalo's defensive scheme is very complex and demands a great deal mentally from its safeties. That might be the thing that keeps Bishop from starting day one. I do expect he'll be a starter before the season progresses very far though.
  15. I don't think there is any way to know for certain. Buffalo needs to at least one, and probably 2 or 3 of their WRs to have his best season ever for this to be a successful season. That includes Coleman, the receivers who are holdovers from last season, and off-season free agent signings. That means, until or unless it happens, there will be doubt about whether or not it's enough.
  16. Yeah, Chase Claypool is an interesting signing. He's got all kinds of measurables with both great size and really good speed. The knock on him is that he takes plays and games off where he doesn't put out much effort. If the Bills can get some consistency out of him, he could easily outpace his contract. Buffalo has struggled in the playoffs when the refs have let KC CBs mug their WRs. Buffalo is getting receivers who can fight back and don't need refs to protect them.
  17. He actually has half way decent measurables. He runs a 4.65 40 at 240 lbs.
  18. It's a crowded room considering the Bills have generally played a 4-2-5 alignment on defense. Starters are Milano and Bernard. I'm not sure what the depth chart is going to look like behind them. Perhaps Baylon Spector will back up Bernard and Williams backs up Milano. I'm guessing they'll carry 5 linebackers, so to keep more than one of the other guys, they would have to cut Williams or Spector or both. Spector is not quite as athletic as some of the others. Dorian Williams is real athletic but early in the season was passed over for reps on defense when Milano went down. It may be he just needed more time to get comfortable with his responsibilities in McDermott's defense, or maybe he's a bit slow on the mental uptake. My guess is it was the former. After all, Bernard had a whole season to sit on the bench. So, what happens? If the Bills end up with only one of the new guys on the 53 man roster, which guy is it?
  19. Did I read somewhere that Hamler is working at remaking his body? I took that to mean he's trying to add some muscle and hopefully become a little more resistant to injury.
  20. I wonder if Kim Pegula could be a candidate for a heart transplant. She's certainly young enough, and if she's that debilitated, it sounds as if it would be warranted. I know heart transplants are still rarer that most other organ transplants.
  21. That's interesting since the #33 pick only belonged to one team. So that one team made a total of 6 offers? Or 5 teams tried to scam Beane, offering to trade a pick they didn't own?
  22. I think I might have the minority view, but I think he replaces Rapp.
  23. Can you provide a link? I googled his pro day results and everything I could find said he only did positional drills at his pro day and stood on his combine testing numbers.
  24. I forgot about Toohill. I agree though. I know his run defense is a liability, but in obvious passing downs he has some juice.
  25. The injury concern is real with Milano. II agree that the Bills are aware the clock is ticking on his career. For the time being, I think the Bills are hoping that Dorian Williams can step in if he gets hurt. Not many players have the instinct and football smarts that Milano has, but at least Williams has plenty of athleticism. With a year in the system, hopefully, the mental aspect of his game is not a liability.
